Publication number: 20110135044Abstract: A filter settings generation operation includes sampling a communication channel to produce a sampled signal. The sampled signal is spectrally characterized across a frequency band of interest to produce a spectral characterization of the sampled signal. This spectral characterization may not include a signal of interest. The spectral characterization is then modified to produce a modified spectral characterization. Filter settings are then generated based upon the modified spectral characterization. Finally, the communication channel is filtered using the filter settings when the signal of interest is present on the communication channel. In modifying the spectral characterization, pluralities of spectral characteristics of the spectral characterization are independently modified to produce the modified spectral characterization. Modifications to the spectral characterization may be performed in the frequency domain and/or the time domain.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 14, 2011Publication date: June 9, 2011Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: Thomas J. Publication number: 20110133835Abstract: Double transformer balun for maximum PA (Power Amplifier) power. A novel approach is presented herein by which conversion from a differential signal to single-ended signal may be achieved using a double transformer balun design. The secondary coils of the double transformer balun also operate as a choke for the PA supply voltage. The secondary coils can operate as an RF (Radio Frequency) trap or choke to keep any AC (Alternating Current) signal components and to pass any DC (Direct Current) components. By using a double transformer balun design, relatively thinner tracks may be employed thereby ensuring a high degree of electromagnetic coupling efficiency and high performance. Also, these relatively thinner tracks consume a relatively small amount of space on the die. The double transformer balun design also includes a matching Z (impedance) block that is operable to match the Z of an antenna or line that the PA is driving.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 22, 2011Publication date: June 9, 2011Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: Jesus Alfonso Castaneda, Qiang Li, Ahmadreza (Reza) Rofougaran

Publication number: 20110133895Abstract: A transceiver for a RFID reader and a transceiver for a RFID transponder (tag) allow communication between the two devices. The RFID reader utilizes an analog front end and a digital backend. In the receiver portion of the transceiver, the front end of the RFID reader uses a pair of down-conversion mixers to demodulate a received signal into in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) components and analog-to-digital converters (ADC) digitize the signal. A digital signal processor (DSP) in the back end processes the digital signal and uses a matched filter for data detection. The RFID tag receives an inductively coupled signal from the reader and the receiver portion of the tag uses a pulse/level detector that employs an analog comparator and a sample and hold circuit to detect the received signal. A digital decoder/controller is used to decode the incoming data and to establish a sampling clock for the pulse/level detector.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 28, 2011Publication date: June 9, 2011Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: Jiangfeng Wu, Donald Edward Major

Patent number: 7957339Abstract: Wireless local area network (WLAN) management. A novel approach is provided to associate various wireless stations (STAs) to the WLAN via appropriately selected Access Point (APs). In one implementation, a first AP services only those STAs that have functionality of a first user class (e.g., 802.11b functionality in one instance). In addition, a second AP services only those STAs that have functionality of a second user class (e.g., 802.11g functionality). The WLAN management ensures that STAs having similar characteristics (or similar functionality) are grouped together and associated with an AP that corresponds to those characteristics. For example, 802.11b STAs associate with the WLAN via an 802.11b AP. Analogously, 802.11g STAs associate with the WLAN via an 802.11g AP. When an 802.11g STA is unable to associate with the WLAN via an 802.11g AP, the STA may shift down its functionality set to 802.11b to successfully associate with the WLAN.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2007Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Jeffrey L. Thermond, Edward H. Frank

Patent number: 7956645Abstract: Low power high-speed output driver. An array of switches (some of which are inverting switches whose connectivity is governed oppositely as the control signal provided to it) is implemented such that an input signal governs the connectivity of those switches. A resistor is coupled between the nodes interposed between the switches of the array, and an output signal is taken from the nodes at ends of the resistor. The high voltage level of such an output driver is truly the level of the power supply energizing the circuit (e.g., VDD) while still consuming relatively low power.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2008Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Afshin Momtaz
