Patent number: 7953193Abstract: Sparse channel equalization may be achieved by receiving a signal via a multi-path communication channel. The equalization then continues by extracting sparse information regarding the multiple path communication channel from the signal. Such sparse information generally indicates the position of the signals received via each of the multiple paths. The equalization then continues by estimating a channel response of the multiple path communication channel based on the sparse information. The equalization then continues by generating equalization taps (or coefficients) based on the channel response. The equalization then continues by equalizing the signal based on the equalization taps.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2003Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Randall Perlow, Nabil R. Patent number: 7953817Abstract: A method and system for handling received out-of-order network data using generic buffers for non-posting TCP applications is disclosed. When incoming out-of-order data is received and there is no application buffer posted, a TCP data placement may notify a TCP reassembler to terminate a current generic buffer, allocate a new current generic buffer, and DMA the incoming data into the new current generic buffer. The TCP data placement may notify the TCP reassembler the starting TCP sequence number and the length of the new current generic buffer. Moreover, the TCP data placement may add entries into a TCP out-of-order table when the incoming data creates a new disjoint area. The TCP data placement may adjust an existing disjoint area to reflect any updates. When a TCP application allocates or posts a buffer, then the TCP reassembler may copy data from a linked list of generic buffers into posted buffers.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2009Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Kan Frankie Fan, Scott McDaniel

Patent number: 7953385Abstract: A method and system to determine when a wireless terminal has been paged by a servicing base station. An encoded paging burst is received on a paging channel and then decoded to produce a decoded paging burst. The decoded paging burst is processed to determine if it is a null page. When the encoded paging burst is a null page, subsequent processing operations scheduled to follow a later null page are rescheduled and immediately processed, allowing the wireless terminal to re-enter the sleep mode more quickly following the receipt of a subsequent paging burst.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2009Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Nelson R. Patent number: 7953170Abstract: Signal processing under attenuated transmission conditions. Within an orthogonal signal space, the number of orthogonal signals that are used to transmit information from a transmitter to a receiver is reduced and the transmitted power of each of the now remaining orthogonal signals is modified; this may involve increasing the power of all of the remaining orthogonal signals equally or alternatively modifying them individually. The same modulation used before the reduction may also be used afterwards; within communication systems having multiple transmitter-receiver paths, this will ensure that the communication system's throughput and efficiency will remain unchanged even when one (or more) transmitter-receiver paths are highly attenuated. In addition, robust mode operation is provided for ranging and registering of transmitter devices when entering the communication system.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2009Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Bruce J. Patent number: 7952502Abstract: Imbalance and distortion cancellation for composite analog to digital converter (ADC). Such an ‘ADC’ is implemented using two or more ADCs may be employed for sampling (e.g., quantizing, digitizing, etc.) of an analog (e.g., continuous time) signal in accordance with generating a digital (e.g., discrete time) signal. Patent number: 7953194Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for handling transition errors is presented herein. The transition errors include handling unreported time base discontinuities during trick mode transition, miscalculated time stamps during trick mode transition, erroneous sequence end codes, and unreported broken group of picture transmission. Unreported time base discontinuities are detected by comparing the program clock reference (PCR) value of the data packet to the system time clock (STC). If the difference exceeds a predetermined threshold, the STC is set to the PCR value. Miscalculated time stamps are detected by examining the difference in PTS values between temporally adjacent data packets. If the difference is not within a margin of error from predetermined value, the PTS is disabled. Unreported broken groups of pictures are handled by skipping the first two B-frames of the first group of pictures following a trick mode transition.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2002Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Xuemin Chen, Jiang Fu, David P.
