  • Patent number: 7830995
Abstract: Multi-band single-carrier modulation. A novel approach is presented by which interference compensation may be performed for signals received by a piconet operable device. The piconet operable device may be implemented within a region that includes two or more SOPs (Simultaneously Operating Piconets). Estimation of the level and location of interference is performed and the input to a decoder (within the piconet operable device) is selectively weighted to ensure that the effect of any existent interference within the signal received by the piconet operable device is minimized. Different interference levels are dealt with differently. For one example, portions of the received signal having undergone a large amount of interference may be simply treated as erasures with respect to the input the decoder. For another example, portions of the received signal having undergone some smaller degree of interference, but some interference nonetheless, may be de-weighted before being provided to the decoder.

  • Patent number: 7831894
Abstract: Address generation for contention-free memory mappings of turbo codes with ARP (almost regular permutation) interleaves. A novel means is presented by which anticipatory address generation is employed using an index function that is based on an address mapping which corresponds to an interleave inverse order of decoding processing (??1). In accordance with parallel turbo decoding processing, instead of performing the natural order phase decoding processing by accessing data elements from memory bank locations sequentially, the accessing of addresses is performed based on the index function that is based on an mapping and the interleave (?) employed within the turbo coding. In other words, the accessing data elements from memory bank locations is not sequential for natural order phase decoding processing. The index function also allows for the interleave (?) order phase decoding processing to be performed by accessing data elements from memory bank locations sequentially.

  • Patent number: 7830152
Abstract: A system and method for enhanced accuracy in cable diagnostics of cable length. Conventional cable diagnostics such as time domain reflectometry can be used to determine cable length. This conventional technique can have accuracy limitations in certain situation such as with perfectly terminated cable. A cable length can also be determined through the use of link delay measurements that are based on clock synchronization between nodes in a network. Notwithstanding the accuracy issues of these link delay measurements, overall accuracy can be increased through the combination of the two cable length delay measurements into a final estimate.

  • Patent number: 7830211
Abstract: An input inductor or input inductive network is used to improve the performance of circuits working in discrete time domain, especially a sample and hold circuit. Input series inductors resonate with the capacitance at the input of the sample and hold at high frequencies to extend its bandwidth. At high frequencies, the inductors act as high impedance chokes between the termination resistor and the capacitors and thus also improve the input reflection of the chip.

  • Patent number: 7830845
Abstract: A wireless access point and multiple wireless terminals exchange utilization, status, mobility and reception characteristics. Each wireless terminal generates reception characteristics based on transmissions received from the wireless access point and from other devices in the network. In one operating mode, the characteristics gathered by the wireless devices are forwarded to the wireless access point, and, based on all received characteristics, the wireless access point selects its own transmission power for different types of the transmission. In another mode, all characteristics are exchanged between every wireless terminal and the access point so that each can independently or cooperatively make transmission power control decisions. In a further mode, the wireless access point adjusts protocol parameters based on an assessment of the characteristics received from the client devices, to detect an event such as a hidden terminal condition.

  • Patent number: 7830801
Abstract: An intelligent fabric congestion control apparatus and method are provided to receive data packets from source endpoints and output the data packets to destination endpoints. The apparatus and method include a counter, a timer, and a controller. The counter increments from a preset value when a data packet is received at an egress queue and decrements when the data packet is output from the egress queue. The timer starts timing in response to the incrementing of the counter from the preset value. The controller performs one of resetting the timer when the counter is decremented to the preset value prior to the timer reaching a first threshold, and detecting a persistent congestion when the timer reaches the first threshold.

  • Publication number: 20100281288
Abstract: A Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) communication system dynamically provides power and data communications over a communications link. In an enterprise environment made up of one or more personal computing devices (e.g., personal or laptop computers), a switch determines a power classification for each device via a PoE control module that can be part of, for example, a Power Source Equipment/Powered Device (PSE/PD) system or a LAN-On-Motherboard/Powered Device (LOM/PD) system. A method of classifying power for each device includes detecting a device, polling it for power requirement information using a Layer 2 data link layer, receiving power requirement information from the device, and determining a power classification for the device. Power requirement information can include battery charge status, power load, power mode, etc., of the device. Various types of data packets can be used. The method can be repeated on a periodic basis, allowing power classification to be dynamic.

  • Publication number: 20100279599
Abstract: A downstream adaptive modulation system and method. The downstream adaptive modulation system comprises a wireless access termination system and one or more wireless modems. The wireless access termination system includes a plurality of queues and a parser. The parser parses data traffic onto the plurality of queues. Each queue is associated with a different coding and modulation scheme. Each of the one or more wireless modems receives data traffic from the plurality of queues based on the wireless modem's ability to demodulate and decode the signal from each of the plurality of queues. When a wireless modem experiences a change in signal strength, the present invention enables the wireless modem to adapt to data from other queues to compensate for the change in signal strength. Thus, if the signal strength improves over a period of time, the wireless modem may receive data at a higher order modulation and FEC code rate.

  • Publication number: 20100281330
Abstract: Low complexity communication device employing in-place constructed LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) code. Intelligent design of LDPC codes having similar characteristics there between allows for a very efficient hardware implementation of a communication device that is operative to perform decoding of more than one type of LDPC coded signals. A common basis of decoder hardware (e.g., decoder circuitry) is employed when decoding all of the various types of LDPC coded signals that such a communication device can decode. However, all of the decoder hardware is only employed to decode signals corresponding to the lowest code rate LDPC code supported by the communication device. A first subset of the decoder hardware is employed to decode signals corresponding to the second to lowest code rate LDPC code, a second subset (being less than the first subset) is employed to decode signals corresponding to the third to lowest code rate LDPC code, etc.
