Patent number: 7738357Abstract: A method is disclosed for correcting carrier frequency offset (CFO) in a received data packet that includes one or more M data streams. The data packet has a payload portion preceded by a preamble portion, the payload portion having a plurality of data symbols (L) each of which include a plurality of data tones (K). The method comprises, making a per-stream preamble CFO estimate for each data stream by correlating repeated preamble portions that precede the data packet. The per-stream preamble CFO estimates are weighted and averaged to obtain a single preamble CFO estimate. Any CFO in each received data stream is then corrected according to the preamble CFO estimate. Additionally, for an lth data symbol in a data packet, a per-tone CFO estimate is derived and successively averaged over frequency (tones), time (symbols) and space (data steams) to derive data CFO estimate pdata. Any CFO in each received data stream may be corrected according to the data CFO estimate, and/or the preamble CFO estimate.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2005Date of Patent: June 15, 2010Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Rohit V. Patent number: 7739528Abstract: A state machine and an external interface, including its associated input-outputs (IOs), are always powered on and used to manage the chip power modes and power mode transitions. The chip power modes are defined as RUN, HIBERNATE, POWERDOWN, with many more possible with this invention. For example, once the device is in HIBERNATE or POWERDOWN modes, the power supplies to the IC are either reduced, or completely disconnected except for this controller state machine. This invention's state machine and control mechanism, in response to some external “wake up event”, will bring the chip to RUN mode by managing the state of the external power supplies through its control interface. The implementation achieves small die size and extreme low power consumption.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2006Date of Patent: June 15, 2010Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Zhiqing Zhuang, Jalil Fadavi-Ardekani, Soheyla Kamal, legal representative, Vinay Kumar Bhasin, Lawrence John Madar, III, Chenmin Zhang, Vafa James Rakshani

Patent number: 7738045Abstract: A film mode detector detects film mode of a series of fields of video by comparing pixels in a field adjacent the current field, with corresponding pixels directly above and directly below the pixels in an adjacent field. The number of pixels in the adjacent in time to the current field having (or not having) a value approximately between values of the pixels above and below in the current field is assessed. Film mode for a current field may be detected by monitoring the assessment from field to field. Alternatively or additionally, the detector may detect film mode by assessing for each current field, whether a relatively large or relatively small number of pixels in the immediately previous field have values outside a specified distance of values of a corresponding pixel in the immediately subsequent field, for at least a portion of the immediately previous and subsequent fields. Again, film mode may be detected by monitoring this second assessment from field to field.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2004Date of Patent: June 15, 2010Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Daniel Doswald, Patrick Che Wa Ng

Patent number: 7738460Abstract: A media access controller (MAC) is configured with a header creator circuit. The header creator circuit is configured with logic for receiving a data packet and determining whether the received data packet has an existing packet header prepended thereto. The header creator circuit is further configured to determine if the length of the received data packet includes a cyclic redundancy code. Still further, the header creator circuit is configured to determine a packet header length field value for the received data packet. If the header creator circuit determines that a cyclic redundancy code needs to be included with the received data packet, then the header creator circuit is able to generate a CRC flag. If the data packet needs to be encrypted, then the header creator circuit will generate an encryption flag if it is determined that the received data packet should be encrypted. Finally, the header creator circuit generates a packet header having a plurality of fields.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2007Date of Patent: June 15, 2010Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Shane P. Publication number: 20100146020Abstract: A system and method for parallelization of saturated accumulation is provided. In the method, an input sequence is divided into a plurality of subsequences. For each subsequence, three parallel saturating additions are performed. The local saturation minimum is the saturating addition of the global saturation minimum and the values of the subsequence. The local midpoint is the saturating addition of the values of the subsequence and the local saturation maximum is the saturating addition of the global saturation maximum and the values of the subsequence. In embodiments, the accumulation total for a subsequence is calculated as the saturating addition of the accumulation total for prior subsequences and the local midpoint of the current subsequence, wherein the accumulation total of the last subsequence is the result of the saturated accumulation for the sequence. In another embodiment, the saturated addition of subsequence results are further parallelized before the final result is reached.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 17, 2009Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Alexander J.
