Patent number: 9191675Abstract: Techniques for performing rate control for encoding of video frames are provided. A first timestamp that indicates a prior video frame capture time and a second timestamp that indicates a current video frame capture time are received. A time difference between these timestamps is determined. An average video data bit encoding rate is multiplied by the determined time difference to calculate a bit budget. An indication of a number of encoded video data bits of the prior video frame and of any further video frames encoded subsequent to the prior video frame and prior to the current video frame is received. A virtual buffer fill level is adjusted based on a difference between the indicated number of encoded video bits and the calculated bit budget. A quantizer parameter is adjusted based on the adjusted virtual buffer fill level. The current video frame is encoded according to the adjusted quantizer parameter.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2012Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Wenqing Jiang, Weiping Pan

Publication number: 20150327174Abstract: An auxiliary reduced power analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is, provided for use during sleep periods of a receiver. The auxiliary ADC has a reduced dynamic range but sufficient accuracy to allow demodulation of signaling information contained in an input signal and to update control parameters used for synchronization and channel estimation. As such, a main higher power, higher dynamic range ADC can be turned off during sleep periods, reducing receiver power consumption. The main ADC is turned on at the end of a sleep period, and the receiver can be ready for receiving data immediately using the main ADC because the control parameters are maintained up to date during the sleep period using the auxiliary ADC.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2015Publication date: November 12, 2015Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Ravikiran RAJAGOPAL, Jeffrey Scott Putnam, Ramon Gomez

Publication number: 20150326554Abstract: A social network (SNET) is divided into one or more circles having different trust levels. Communications between the different SNET circles is bridged by an SNET device capable of communicating with devices associated with the different SNET circles, even if those devices cannot communicate directly with each other. When a communication is sent between SNET circles, the SNET device verifies the trust level associated with the communication, and bridges the communication based, at least in part, on that trust level. The SNET device can be located in a demilitarized zone associated with both the first SNET circle and the second SNET circle. Where different SNET circles use different security secrets for communications between members, the SNET device can store different keys for each of those circles in separate, restricted portions of memory.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 20, 2015Publication date: November 12, 2015Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: Sherman (Xuemin) Chen, Marcus C. Patent number: 9185652Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments of Bluetooth low energy (BLE) modules and methods implemented therein. An embodiment of the disclosure can obtain in a BLE module an advertiser packet transmitted by a BLE advertiser. An advertiser cache can be checked to determine whether the advertiser cache in the BLE module contains an entry associated with an advertiser address from the advertiser packet. The BLE module can determine whether a payload value of the advertiser packet has changed relative to a previous advertiser packet associated with the advertiser address. The BLE module can then suppress forwarding of the packet to a host processor and/or on-board processor executing firmware. The BLE module can also suppress sending a scan request packet back to the BLE advertiser.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2011Date of Patent: November 10, 2015Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Guoxin Xie, Yuan Zhuang, Angel Polo, Chikan Kwan, Cindy (Xin) Tian, Arthur Jin, Long Wang
