Abstract: Based on the determined signal strength of a serving cell, a choice is made whether to utilize a cell-FACH measurement occasion for a lower priority neighbor cell search or for a higher priority neighbor cell search. The lower priority search is for maintaining wireless connectivity and the higher priority search is for accessing enhanced wireless service. In specific examples the search may be inter-frequency for frequency layers with higher or lower priority than a serving layer of the serving cell, or the search may be inter-RAT such as the lower priority GERAN search and a higher priority E-UTRAN search if the serving cell is WCDMA. In one example there are two thresholds for the signal strength, and if higher than both then the measurement occasion is used for an E-UTRAN search regardless of whether GERAN or inter-frequency neighbor cells have been configured for the UE.

Abstract: Embodiments provide systems and methods for producing an envelope tracking (ET) PA supply voltage with minimum headroom relative to the desired RF output signal of the PA. In an embodiment, the PA supply voltage is generated by applying an ET signal to an ET path of the wireless device, and by further applying pre-emphasis to the ET signal to compensate for a frequency response of the ET path. Embodiments operate by estimating the frequency response of the ET path and determining the pre-emphasis based on the estimate of the frequency response of the ET path. In embodiments, the pre-emphasis is applied using a pre-emphasis filter, which may be within or outside of the ET path. Further, the pre-emphasis may be applied to the ET signal in digital or analog form.

Abstract: A core module for a portable computing device includes wireless power receiver circuitry, battery power circuitry, power supply circuitry, a processor, and an RF link interface. The wireless power receiver module, when operable, receives a wireless power transmit signal and converts it into a supply voltage. The battery power circuitry, when operable, outputs a battery voltage. The power supply circuitry, when operable, converts the supply voltage or the battery voltage into one or more power supply voltages. The processor is operable to select one of the battery voltage, the supply voltage, and one of the one or more power supply voltages to produce a selected voltage. The RF link interface outputs the selected voltage on to an RF link of the portable computing device for providing power to one or more multi mode RF units within the portable computing device.
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for decoding a polar encoded codeword using a frozen bit pattern determined based on a frozen bit pattern derived for a trellis decoder with a different routing structure between each of a plurality of processing stages. The frozen bit pattern can be determined based on the frozen bit pattern derived for the trellis decoder with the different routing structure between each of the plurality of processing stages such that a belief propagation decoder that uses a plurality of time-multiplexed processing elements with a fixed routing interconnect can still achieve a high decoding performance.

Abstract: A mobile communication device has a processor, a radio, a near field communication (NFC) device, a battery, and memory for storing data. The power level of the battery is measured. When the measured power level is above a first predetermined level, power is provided to the radio to allow communication. Sufficient power is provided to operate the NFC device as a reader and a tag. When the measured power level of the battery falls below the first predetermined level, battery power to the radio is shut off. Sufficient power is maintained to the NFC device to allow it to operate only as a tag. Sufficient power is maintained to the memory to retain the data stored in the memory. When the measured power level of the battery falls below a second predetermined level, the NFC device is required to harvest all of its power from the field.

Abstract: A radio circuit includes an adjustable RF front-end module on an IC die, a liquid MEMS component on a board, and a processing module on the IC die. The adjustable RF front-end module adjusts processing of an inbound or an outbound RF signal based on a compensation control signal. The liquid MEMS component changes an operational characteristic as temperature of the radio circuit varies. The processing module generates the compensation signal based on the changing of the operational characteristic of the liquid MEMS component. The liquid MEMS component includes a channel within the board, a liquid droplet contained within the channel, and one or more conductive elements proximal to the channel.
Abstract: Through the use of a least squares minimization concept, the loop length, the number of bridged taps and length of the bridged taps on a transmission line can be determined from readily available modem data. In particular, the loop length, the number of bridge taps and the length of bridged taps can be estimated by comparing a measured frequency domain channel impulse response of the transmission line to a model of a loop that is comprised of multiple sections and multiple bridge taps.
Abstract: Power over Ethernet (PoE) communication systems provide power and data communications over the same communications link, where a power source device (PSE) provides DC power to a powered device (PD). The DC power is transmitted simultaneously over the same communications medium with the high speed data from one node to the other node. The PSE controller measures the voltage, current, and temperature of the outgoing and incoming DC supply lines to characterize the power requirements of the PD. The PSE controller may detect and validate a compatible PD, determine a power classification signature for the validated PD, supply power to the PD, monitor the power, and reduce or remove the power from the PD when the power is no longer requested or required. If the PSE finds the PD to be non-compatible, the PSE can prevent the application of power to that PD device, protecting the PD from possible damage.

Abstract: Interconnections between signal lines help to reduce signal skew between signals carried on the signal lines. The interconnections may be resistive interconnections, and the signal lines may be clock lines. In a memory controller, for example, resistive traces may connect adjacent clock lines. The resistive traces reduce the clock signal skew between the adjacent clock lines, and throughout the memory controller as a whole.

Abstract: A premises based multimedia communication system includes a source device that produces multimedia content, a rendering device that presents the multimedia content, and a premises communication network coupling the source device to the rendering device. The system determines a bit error rate of the premises communication network, transfers the multimedia content from the source device to the rendering device, and when the bit error rate exceeds a bit error rate threshold, the system at least partially disables link layer encryption of video frames of the multimedia content transfer. With the link layer operations at least partially disabled, the system can enable, at least partially, content layer encryption operations for the transfer of the multimedia content from the source device to the rendering device.

Abstract: Convergent network architecture and path information. Within a convergent network composed of different respective networks, each respective network may be controlled or managed internally and independently with respect to the other networks. For example, each respective network includes a forwarding and link metrics database and is managed by its own respective control entity (e.g., which may be any one of the given devices were nodes within that network). Generally speaking, each respective network may be modeled as an Ethernet bridge such that each respective bridge natively maintains its own forwarding and link metrics database. Such link metrics are specific to a given network and may cover one or both of prioritized Quality of Service (QoS) and parameterized QoS. Relays between neighboring bridges may effectively propagate and/or forward their respective databases, and update of any given database may be made asynchronously or based on a neighboring bridge query.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses are provided for resolution-independent dither sample insertion for audio transmissions. Audio transmitters transmit audio data streams to audio receivers. Data inactivity in the data stream triggers the audio receivers to enter power-saving/sleep modes in which synchronization with the audio transmitters is lost thus requiring time consuming resynchronization. Inactivity such as silence or zero-value data is detected in a data stream. Upon detection, a dither sample is inserted into the data stream and transmitted to the audio receiver to prevent the loss of synchronization. The dither sample may have a negative value and be formatted for resolution-independence with respect to the audio receiver.
Abstract: The invention teaches a solution for a Time Division Duplex (TDD) and Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) networks. In the solution, a threshold value is set for a radio frequency gain. The value of the radio frequency gain is limited to the threshold value during an initial synchronization phase where user equipment is first trying to receive synchronization signals in a transmission from a base station.
