Abstract: The invention provides a method, an apparatus and a computer program for wireless communication. The invention includes setting a wait timer value for a delay tolerant apparatus for wireless communication as a response to an unsuccessful radio resource connection setup procedure, said wait timer delaying the radio resource connection setup procedure and calculating or searching the wait timer value from a table comprising timer data and values corresponding to timer setup information.

Abstract: A network access node identifies a component carrier within an unlicensed radio spectrum, determines whether or not to configure the component carrier for use as a secondary component carrier, and based on the determining configures the component carrier for use as a secondary component carrier companion to a primary component carrier within a licensed radio spectrum, In various non-limiting embodiments the network node senses the component carrier within the unlicensed radio spectrum, and as more data is needed to make the determination employs a mobile device to also sense and further to measure the component carrier within the unlicensed radio spectrum. Specific procedures are detailed for both the network node and the mobile device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for controlling a reference oscillator shared by multiple subsystems of a communications system and arbitrating usage of the reference oscillator among these subsystems. By changing the properties of the reference oscillator (e.g., by tuning the reference oscillator) according to the needs of particular subsystem(s), the communications system can configure the reference oscillator to meet the specification requirements of these particular subsystem(s) and can later reconfigure the reference oscillator to meet the needs of other subsystems. Further, the controller can configure the subsystems based on parameters that impact multiple subsystems (e.g., by implementing geographic awareness, spectrum occupation awareness, and availability of Assisted GPS (AGPS) functionality) to achieve further optimization of the communications system.

Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for power supply adjustment and polar modulation in a MIMO system are provided. In each RF transmit chain of a MIMO system that utilizes polar modulation, aspects of the invention may enable generating a signal representative of an amplitude of a pair of phase-quadrature baseband signals; and controlling a voltage and/or current regulator utilizing said generated signal. In this regard, a voltage and/or current supplied to a power amplifier and/or mixer of one or more of the transmit chains may be controlled based on the generated signal. Additionally, a gain of a power amplifier for each RF transmit chain may be controlled utilizing said signal representative of an amplitude. The signal representative of an amplitude may be generated by squaring each of the phase-quadrature baseband signals and calculating a square root of a sum of the squared signals.

Abstract: A wireless communication device (‘device’) is configured to generate an OFDM/A packet that includes at least one OFDM/A symbol that includes at least one SIG having SIG information modulated on only even (or odd) sub-carriers and does not include any information modulated on odd (or even) sub-carriers of a set of OFDM/A sub-carriers. The set of OFDM/A sub-carriers may be all or less than all of available sub-carriers. The device may generate the packet to include a preamble and a payload such that the payload, which may be composed of at least one additional OFDM/A symbol, includes data modulated on some or all of the sub-carriers of the set of OFDM/A sub-carriers. The device can modulate and transmit SIG information and data differently within the preamble and the payload (e.g., with higher ordered modulation or MCS for the data and less power per sub-carrier than for the preamble).

Abstract: A communication system and method are provided for discovering wireless client devices within a local area network. A discovery message may be broadcast to a plurality of access points via a select access point to discover an access point. A response may be received from the discovered access point that may report a presence of a particular wireless client device located within a coverage area of the discovered access point. A status of the particular wireless client device may then be requested from the discovered access point.

Abstract: A near field RF communicator has an inductive coupler to enable inductive coupling with a magnetic field of an RF signal; a rectifier to rectify an AC voltage derived from an RF signal inductively coupled to the inductive coupler; and a regulator to regulate a voltage derived from an RF signal inductively coupled to the inductive coupler, the regulator having a voltage-controlled impedance and a regulator controller to provide a control voltage for the voltage controlled impedance and to vary the control voltage in dependence upon a current flowing through the voltage controlled impedance. To prevent the voltage regulator from drawing excess current and energy from an RF field in which the communicator is present the voltage regulator is controlled to provide a chosen impedance characteristic.

Abstract: A video transmitter comprising a plurality of encoders may be operable to determine, for a transport stream, a constant overall number of bits per time interval corresponding to a frame in the transport stream. For each time interval corresponding to a start and an end of encoding of each of frames using each of the encoders, the video transmitter may allocate a target number of bits to each of the frames to achieve the constant overall number of bits. The allocation of the target number of bits may be based on frame types of the frames and CODEC types of the encoders, where the allocated target number of bits for each of the frames meets buffer overflow/underflow requirements associated with each of the encoders. A quantization parameter (QP) may be calculated and adjusted at each of one or more layers for generating an actual number of bits during encoding.

Abstract: A system and method for Service Interoperability in Ethernet Passive Optical Network (SIEPON) energy saving statistics. Energy saving statistics can be collected from a plurality of subordinate nodes in a point-to-multipoint network through a mechanism that aggregates energy saving statistics as those energy saving statistics are reported upstream. Such aggregation of energy saving statistics can be advantageous in that the aggregated energy saving information can appear uncorrelated to individual subordinate nodes. Privacy concerns are thereby addressed.

Abstract: Various configurations and arrangements of systems and methods for providing multi-carrier aggregation are described. A system in accordance with the disclosure can include a first mixer configured to receive a first signal in a first frequency band, a second mixer configured to receive a second signal in a second frequency band, a third mixer configured to receive the second signal in the second frequency band, and a fourth mixer configured to receive a third signal in a third frequency band. The system can further include a controller configured to selectively activate one of the first mixer and the second mixer, and selectively activate one of the third mixer and the fourth mixer.

Abstract: A first personal electronic (PE) device may enable generation, updating, and/or storage of user configuration information. The user configuration information may comprise information pertaining to device configuration and/or operational preferences specific to the device user and/or various use settings, connectivity, and/or use of available resources. The generation, updating, and/or storage of the user configuration information may be performed manually and/or automatically, and may be performed directly within the first PE device and/or via networked devices, which may communicatively coupled to the first PE device. A second PE device may be enabled to be communicatively coupled to the first PE device and/or the networked devices. The second PE device may then be enabled to download existing user configuration information from the first PE device and/or the networked device, and the downloaded user configuration may be utilized to configure the second PE device.

Abstract: TTI bundling is included for Msg3 transmissions in LTE communications. A reserved group of preambles or reserved set of random access preamble transmission opportunities are used to indicate user equipment (UE) need of uplink (UL) transmission of a TTI-bundled Msg3. The UE transmits the same redundancy version for transmissions within a TTI bundle as the eNB expects even if any of the transmissions are dropped due to collisions with an Msg3 transmission. In addition, co-existence of TTI bundling and UL semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) for TDD DL/UL configurations is provided using SPS intervals which are multiples of various fixed time periods.

The cellular based ITS environment may be configured based on LTE based interfaces. A method also includes receiving an ITS paging message from the first access point. A method also includes causing a reselection of the first RSU while in the communications range of the first access point in the ITS target area and in response to the received ITS paging message.

Abstract: A method of compensating carrier tone generation between duty cycles includes receiving a carrier frequency signal and a reference frequency signal, where the carrier frequency signal is mixed with a communication signal in a signal path. The method includes determining a first and second time differences between the carrier frequency signal and the reference frequency signal at respective clock edges of the reference frequency signal. The method includes converting the first time difference to a first corresponding phase value and the second time difference to a second corresponding phase value based on an operating frequency, and determining a phase difference between the first corresponding phase value and the second corresponding phase value. In turn, the method includes adjusting the communication signal with the phase difference independent of the signal path to maintain phase continuity in the signal path between the duty cycles.

Abstract: There is stored in a memory an association between each nth one of N content types with a respective nth group of N groups of identifiers (N is an integer greater than one, n indexes from 1 to N, and at least one of the groups has more than one identifier). A beacon sender selects one of the content types for a beacon to be transmitted and selects a beacon identifier from the group associated with the selected content type. The beacon to be transmitted is compiled to include content of the selected content type and the selected beacon identifier. The beacon receiver selects at least one of the content types; and for a plurality of beacons received, filters out from further processing each beacon having a beacon identifier that is not within the group of identifiers associated with any of the at least one selected content types. The network creates the association and broadcasts it in a network cell.

Abstract: A RF transmitter includes a power amplifier that generates a transmit signal modulated with outbound data for transmission to a remote communication device via an antenna section. A supply voltage to power the power amplifier is adjusted based on an average power tracking signal. A reflected power from the antenna section is measured. The average power tracking signal is adjusted based on the reflected power to compensate for the changes in impedance of the antenna section and to maintain a desired linearity.

Abstract: In a method for use by a user equipment of a communication network system, a signal strength received from a target signal which is transmitted from an access network of the communication network system, is measured at a frequency of a reception filter of the user equipment, the frequency corresponding to a frequency channel number. The signal strength measured is compared with a predetermined threshold. In case the signal strength measured is below the predetermined threshold, the frequency channel number is incremented by S, S being an integer equal to or greater than 2.

Abstract: A signal processing method includes inputting a digital signal, providing a plurality of coefficients; and determining an output. The output is approximately equal to an aggregate of a plurality of linear reference components, and each of the linear reference components is approximately equal to an aggregate of a corresponding set of digital signal samples that is scaled by the plurality of coefficients.

Abstract: Group identification and definition within multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. A group identification definition field may be transmitted to a number of receiving devices for use in interpreting current or subsequently received packets that include a group identification field (group ID). The group ID can serve a number of functions such as indicating those receiving devices for which the packet is intended, the identification of fields within the packet corresponding to the various devices, certain parameters (e.g., code type, code rate, modulation type, etc.) associated with such fields within the packet, etc. The group identification definition field may be updated or modified to allow for modification of the manner in which subsequent packets, including respective group IDs, are processed. One of a variety of events may direct the group identification definition field may be updated or modified.
