  • Patent number: 9197214
Abstract: A high speed level shifter interfaces a high speed DAC to the digital information that the DAC processes. The level shifter may convert CMOS level digital representations to, for example, CML level digital representations for processing by the DAC. The level shifter conserves the voltage swing in the CMOS level representations (e.g., about 1V). The level shifter also avoids voltage overstress, using a feedback loop to constrain the voltage amplitude, and thereby facilitates the use of fast thin film transistors in its architecture.

  • Patent number: 9197181
Abstract: A loudness enhancement system and method is described that increases the loudness of an audio signal being played back by an audio device that places limits on the dynamic range of the audio signal. In an embodiment, the loudness enhancement system and method compresses the audio signal to an adaptively-determined compression limit that is greater than or equal to a maximum desired output level and then applies an adaptively-determined degree of soft clipping to the compressed audio signal. The compression limit and degree of soft clipping may be determined based on an overload measure that is calculated for successive portions of the audio signal. The loudness enhancement system and method advantageously operates in a manner that generates less distortion than the method of simply over-driving the audio signal such that hard-clipping occurs.

  • Patent number: 9197332
Abstract: In collocated radios, interference is mitigated to permit concurrent radio operation. In response to detection of imminent transmission of interfering wireless (i.e., RF jammer) signals, gain settings of one or more stages of front-end receiver amplifiers may be quickly configured to permit concurrent frequency division operation instead of consecutive time-division operation. This expansion of concurrent operation may improve communication bandwidth and/or may produce reliable, consistent results. Gain control responsive to detection of imminent RF jamming may maintain amplification in a linear range where interference can be filtered out. Receiver gain may be shifted from a default high gain or high sensitivity setting to lower gain to maintain integrity of a signal of interest (SoI), which avoids clipping, distortion and unwanted products caused by a high power jamming signal that could otherwise make it impossible to recover the SoI.

  • Patent number: 9197561
Abstract: In various embodiments, a system includes a switch comprising a resource that is shared between multiple objects. The switch comprises circuitry that determines a congestion metric for the switch in response to an amount of used of the resource by the objects. The circuitry determines a feedback parameter that is responsive to the congestion metric. The circuitry generates a congestion notification message that comprises a congestion feedback value responsive to the feedback parameter. In further embodiments, a system includes a switch that processes data for a first data link layer access network. The switch includes circuitry that identifies whether a received packet originated from a source device that shares the same network layer access layer as the switch. • Patent number: 9197366
Abstract: FEC (Forward Error Correction) decoder with dynamic parameters. A novel means by which FEC parameters may be encoded into, and subsequently extracted from, a signal stream to allow for adaptive changing of any 1 or more operational parameters that govern communications across a communication channel. FEC parameters are encoded directly into a data frame such that the data frame is treated identical to all other data frames within the signal stream. When the data frame actually includes FEC parameters, it is characterized as a CP (Control Packet) type. For example, when decoding an MPEG stream, an MPEG block that includes FEC parameters, that MPEG block is characterized as a CP MPEG block. The means by which FEC parameters are encoded and extracted from the signal stream allows for much easier adaptive modification of the manner by which signal are encoded, modulated, and processed within a communication system.
