Abstract: A thermal accelerant is delivered to a tissue site and localized to modulate the shape, extent or other characteristic of RF or microwave-induced hyperthermia tissue ablation. The accelerant may be provided via an image-guided hand piece or via a lumen added to a microwave antenna, and promotes faster heating, more complete ablation and/or a more extensive treatment region to reduce recurrence of treated cancers, overcoming natural limitations, variations in tissue response and drop-off or thermal loss away from the antenna. The accelerant is delivered as a viscous but heat sensitive fluid, and is fixed in place to provide regions of preferential absorption or heating. Shorter exposure times to heat the far field may allow survival of vulnerable tissue such as vessels, and multiple antennae may be used for effective treatment of irregular or large tumors.

Abstract: A system for processing a hydrocarbon feed has a final stage reactor and internal separator that forms a substantially gas stream and a substantially non-gas stream. The substantially gas stream is sent directly from the final stage reactor to a separator or for other processing.
Abstract: A system for processing a hydrocarbon feed has a final stage reactor and internal separator with cyclone that forms a substantially gas stream and a substantially non-gas stream. The substantially gas stream is sent directly from the final stage reactor and separator to further downstream processing.
Abstract: Disclosed are computer-readable devices, systems and methods for generating a model of a clothed body. The method includes generating a model of an unclothed human body, the model capturing a shape or a pose of the unclothed human body, determining two-dimensional contours associated with the model, and computing deformations by aligning a contour of a clothed human body with a contour of the unclothed human body. Based on the two-dimensional contours and the deformations, the method includes generating a first two-dimensional model of the unclothed human body, the first two-dimensional model factoring the deformations of the unclothed human body into one or more of a shape variation component, a viewpoint change, and a pose variation and learning an eigen-clothing model using principal component analysis applied to the deformations, wherein the eigen-clothing model classifies different types of clothing, to yield a second two-dimensional model of a clothed human body.

Abstract: A dental guard (10) for preventing wear of the occlusal surfaces of a user's teeth resulting from bruxism is provided. The dental guard (10) can be can be custom-fitted to the teeth of the wearer. The guard (10) comprises a durable core (14) that is overmolded by a thermoplastic outer layer (12). The outer layer (12) can be softened through exposure to hot, but not boiling, water, and then formed around the user's teeth. The guard (10) may include one or more features (32, 84) that assist the user in proper positioning of the guard within his or her mouth during the custom fitting process.
Abstract: A system for separating first reactor effluent product by means of an intermediate separator, and sending the unconverted slurry material from the separator to further reactors. Such intermediate separation decreases the required size of downstream reactors.
Abstract: A polarizing beam splitter includes thin electrically conductive metal sheets each having an edge and a thickness substantially less than the wavelength ? of a terahertz signal. The sheets are arranged in a stack or array to define wave propagation passages for energy of a terahertz beam directed at a face formed by edges of the sheets, and constitutes an artificial dielectric which operates below cutoff to allow selective transmission through the passages and/or reflection from said face, separating polarization states of the beam with defined power splitting. The artificial dielectric beam splitter can be configured to operate over a broad terahertz band. The sheets are flat, without micropatterned surface features, are robust and simple to manufacture, and form a broad band polarizing beam slitter for terahertz radiation. Complete separation of the transmitted and reflected beam is achieved below cutoff by rotating the polarization of the input beam.

Abstract: A method for testing a body having a feature and an outer surface includes configuring a probe to emit a focused ultrasonic beam; configuring a control unit to control the probe, adjusting a focal distance of a focal point of the beam with reference to a test location; adjusting a position of the focal point along at least one axis with reference to the feature; emitting the beam into the outer surface; and determining a presence of a crack at the test location by evaluating % a signal response from the probe. A related apparatus includes the control unit, the transducer, and a shoe assembly having a shoe member and a shoe adapter. A coupling fluid in a variable volume chamber in the shoe adapter separates the transducer from the shoe member and allows changes in a focal distance of the focal point. The apparatus also includes one or more positioners for adjusting a position of the focal point.
