Abstract: A desolidification process enables the isolation and extraction of solid additives from an unreacted petroleum residue stream. In a hydrocracking process that mixes a solid additive with a petroleum residue feedstock to convert the petroleum residue to higher-value distillates, the desolidification process enables the recovery of the unreacted petroleum residue for conversion to a saleable product. The desolidification process involves the mixture of one or more solvents with a slurry in which solids are integrated in the petroleum residue to generate a mixture having a decreased density and viscosity as compared to the slurry, which facilitates removal of the solids.

Abstract: Systems tune, control, or remediate the intrinsic Circadian clock. A light controller sets spectral distribution, intensity of a bioactive spectral band to shift or entrain circadian response to enhance performance and/or synchronize with local or expected conditions. The systems enhance performance under conditions that might be changing, disrupted, or otherwise present an irregular phase or unnatural change in the subject's circadian status, for example, due to geographically discontinuous activity or spectrally deficient workplace illumination, or due to divergent individual sleep/wake behaviors of subjects in a structured group activity. An illumination recipe that compensates for the deficiency of lighting or of participant sleep or behavior patterns, or age- or disease-related changes, to evoke, shift, or align circadian response and improve behaviors such as classroom alertness, relaxation, excitability, attention, or focus.

Abstract: An advanced regulatory controller for a converter of a catalytic olefins unit is disclosed. A Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) type converter (i.e., reactor-regenerator) is combined with an ethylene style cold-end for product recovery. The regulatory controller operates using an Advanced Regulatory Control (ARC) application using variables, such as a controlled variable, four disturbance variables, associated variable, and a manipulated variable. The ARC application manipulates fuel oil or tail gas flow to a regenerator in response to an expected future steady state value of a regenerator bed temperature resulting from changes in the values of a selected set of the variables.

Abstract: A gas range has burner head which have temperature sensing devices as a portion of the burner heads. Upon reaching a predetermined temperature, the temperatures sensing devices reduces gas flow to a bypass amount until temperature drops below to at least the predetermined temperature. Lowering the temperature in a cooking utensil below a common ignition temperature, while still allowing boiling, is an objective of many embodiments.
Abstract: Methods, compositions, devices and kits having a novel chromatographic material are provided herein for separating and identifying organic molecules and compounds, for example molecules and compounds containing electron rich functional groups such as carbon-carbon double bonds. The methods, compositions, and kits include a metal-thiolate chromatographic medium (MTCM) with a sulfur-containing functional group or a metal-selenolate chromatographic medium (MSCM) comprising a selenium-containing functional group covalently attached to a support medium, such that the sulfur-containing functional group or selenium-containing functional group is bound to at least one metal atom. The MTCM and/or MSCM has affinity and specificity to compounds having one or more carbon-carbon double bonds, and performs a highly efficient and rapid separation of samples yielding non-overlapping peaks of purified materials compared to traditional media.

Abstract: Methods, devices, and compositions for use with spintronic devices such as magnetic random access memory (MRAM) and spin-logic devices are provided. Methods include manipulating magnetization states in spintronic devices and making a structure using spin transfer torque to induce magnetization reversal. A device described herein manipulates magnetization states in spintronic devices and includes a non-magnetic metal to generate spin current based on the giant spin Hall effect, a ferromagnetic thin film with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, an oxide thin film, and an integrated magnetic sensor. The device does not require an insertion layer between a non-magnetic metal with giant spin Hall effect and a ferromagnetic thin film to achieve perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for in-situ x-ray scatter imaging of battery electrodes. An apparatus includes an X-ray source, a grid, the grid comprising stainless steel wires with uniform spacing, and a cell, the X-ray source directing a beam of energy through the metal grid and components of the cell, the cell blurring a previously sharp projection of grid wires on an image detector. A method includes providing a Spatial Frequency Heterodyne Imaging system, providing a grid, providing a cell, generating X-rays from the Spatial Frequency Heterodyne Imaging system that pass through components of the cell and the grid, and detecting a scatter image from the X-rays.

Abstract: A technique for calculating the motion and stress at any location along a riser or mooring line that is connected to an oil platform using data from multiple motion sensors that are installed above the water level on the platform is disclosed. A relationship between motion at the locations of the motion sensors and motion at the point at which the riser or mooring line is attached to the platform is determined from a model of the platform. From this relationship, the motion at the location at which the riser or mooring line is attached to the platform is computed from motion that is measured by the motion sensors. The motion and stress at any location along the riser or the mooring line is calculated based on the acceleration at the location at which the riser or mooring line is attached to the platform.
Abstract: The current disclosure involves the arrangement and efficient deployment of self-adhering flexible sheet material in individual segments to encircle a bale of harvested material and isolate it from the wind, precipitation, and other elements as it remains in the field following the formation of the bale attendant with harvesting of the crop, until collected for further processing. For use with harvested crops such as cotton or hay, the individual wrapping segments further comprise adhering members, which cause a portion of a wrapping segment, generally found at what is considered a trailing end during a wrapping cycle, to releasably attach to adhering members on an opposite surface of the same wrapping segment.
Abstract: According to the invention a system and method for catalyst removal from MTO effluent is provided. The method includes removing catalyst from methanol to olefin effluent including contacting the methanol to olefin effluent with a wash oil separate the catalyst fines from the effluent into the wash oil and cool the effluent, separating the catalyst fines from the cooled effluent in a separator or a column to obtain an essentially catalyst free effluent, directing the catalyst free effluent out from the separator or the column, slurrying the separated catalyst fines to obtain a slurry and directing the slurry to one or more filters to filter out the catalyst.
Abstract: A paraffin having 2-8 carbon atoms may be dehydrogenated by contacting the paraffin with metal oxide catalyst(s) to produce light olefins, such as propylene, under certain reaction conditions in a riser, fluidized bed, or fixed-bed swing reactor. The resulting metal oxide catalyst fines contained in the reactor effluent stream formed by the dehydrogenation reaction may be recovered by contacting the reactor effluent stream with a wash fluid to form a catalyst effluent stream that is subsequently slurried and filtered to capture the catalyst fines for potential reuse.
