Abstract: An archery bow with a riser including a mount in a centerline plane of the riser above a lower wall of a sight window of the riser may allow for a novel manner of mounting an archery accessory. Placement of the mount within a centerline plane of the riser may maintain the weight of the archery accessory along a center of the bow, thereby reducing or eliminating asymmetrically weighted bows or the need for an additional stabilizer to balance the weight of the archery accessory. Positioning the mount above the lower wall of the sight window additionally allows for coordination of the position of a secondary accessory, such as a sight, a light, or a camera, in addition to mounting an arrow rest, such as in a lower wall of the sight window, while maintaining the centralized weight advantages noted above.
Abstract: Methods and systems for preparing acetone from cumene hydroperoxide (CHP) are disclosed. The methods and systems involve an acetone purification column configured to separate acetone from other components of the product/reactant stream. The acetone purification column is equipped with a side draw configured to route a portion of the column contents to a caustic treating vessel where the contents are reacted with a dilute aqueous alkaline solution to remove aldehydes from the acetone product. The contents of the caustic treating vessel are then routed back to the acetone purification column. Using a separate caustic treating vessel for the aldehydes removal provides increased contact time between the acetone product and the alkaline solution, thereby affording greater aldehydes removal.
Abstract: A magnetic tunneling junction sensor includes a free ferromagnetic layer of material, a pinned ferromagnetic layer of material, the free ferromagnetic layer and the pinned ferromagnetic layer separated by a thin insulating layer of material through which electrons can tunnel, an oxidized silicon wafer, the free ferromagnetic layer, thin insulating layer and the pinned ferromagnetic layer deposited on the oxidized silicon wafer, and extrinsic magnetic flux.
Abstract: An electric vehicle routing system comprising a route determination module configured to receive, via a graphical user interface (GUI) module, user input data defining, for a desired journey of a vehicle in which the vehicle routing system is installed, a start location in a road network, a destination location in the road network, and at least one waypoint in the road network. On the basis of the received user input data, data received from a vehicle battery status monitoring module, data retrieved from a road network storage database and data retrieved from a charging network storage database, the route determination module determines at least one route in the road network from the start location to the destination location via the at least one waypoint and transmits data associated with the at least one determined route to the GUI module.
Abstract: A technique for calculating the motion and stress at any location along a riser or mooring line that is connected to an oil platform using data from multiple motion sensors that are installed above the water level on the platform is disclosed. A relationship between motion at the locations of the motion sensors and motion at the point at which the riser or mooring line is attached to the platform is determined from a model of the platform. From this relationship, the motion at the location at which the riser or mooring line is attached to the platform is computed from motion that is measured by the motion sensors. The motion and stress at any location along the riser or the mooring line is calculated based on the acceleration at the location at which the riser or mooring line is attached to the platform.
Abstract: A method for analyzing an object includes modeling the object with a differential equation, such as a linear partial differential equation (PDE), and sampling data associated with the differential equation. The method uses a probability distribution device to obtain the solution to the differential equation. The method eliminates use of discretization of the differential equation.

Abstract: A process where external fuel oil is used to wash entrained catalyst from a fluidized-bed propane dehydrogenation reactor effluent, where the fuel oil and catalyst mixture is returned to the reactor to provide the net fuel required for catalyst regeneration. Optionally the fluidized-bed propane dehydrogenation reactor effluent and the fuel oil are contacted in a direct contact inline device before entering a flash zone in the reactor vessel.

Abstract: In a propane dehydrogenation (PDH) process, the purpose of the deethanizer and chilling train systems is to separate the cracked gas into a methane-rich tail gas product, a C2, and a C3 process stream. By the use of staged cooling, process-to-process inter-change against propane feed to the reactor and use of high efficiency heat exchangers and distributed distillation techniques, refrigeration power requirements are reduced and a simple and reliable design is provided by the process described herein.
Abstract: A method to recover refrigeration credit from propane feed to a propane dehydrogenation reactor by fully condensing a Depropanizer overhead stream, letting the condensed stream down in pressure, and vaporizing the stream at lower pressure against process streams to recover refrigeration credit.
Abstract: A thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) foam having a soft open-cell inner layer and a washable closed-cell outer layer which surrounds and substantially seals the inner layer, and which may be used alone or in combination with other components to produce useful articles. The TPE foam includes a base resin which is a styrenic block copolymer, and a foaming agent. A process of forming and molding the TPE foam includes using a shutoff nozzle to prevent the foaming agent from activating before reaching the mold cavity, using an oversized gate to minimize shear heat, and using oversized vents. An earplug may be constructed by molding the TPE foam over a core or body formed from a material which is denser than the TPE foam. A first earplug design may employ a constrained layer damping effect, while a second earplug design may employ an adjustable sound attenuation effect.

Abstract: Techniques for scanning through structured light techniques that are robust to global illumination effects and that provide an accurate determination of position as provided. According to some aspects, described techniques may be computationally efficient compared with conventional techniques by making use of a novel approach of selecting frequencies of patterns for projection onto a target that mathematically enable efficient calculations. In particular, the selected frequencies may be chosen so that there is a known relationship between the frequencies. This relationship may be derived from Chebyshev polynomials and also relates the chosen frequencies to a low frequency pattern.

Abstract: A method for testing a body having a feature and an outer surface includes configuring a probe to emit a focused ultrasonic beam; configuring a control unit to control the probe, adjusting a focal distance of a focal point of the beam with reference to a test location; adjusting a position of the focal point along at least one axis with reference to the feature; emitting the beam into the outer surface; and determining a presence of a crack at the test location by evaluating % a signal response from the probe. A related apparatus includes the control unit, the transducer, and a shoe assembly having a shoe member and a shoe adapter. A coupling fluid in a variable volume chamber in the shoe adapter separates the transducer from the shoe member and allows changes in a focal distance of the focal point. The apparatus also includes one or more positioners for adjusting a position of the focal point.
