These compounds have useful bacteriostatic activity.

Abstract: There is described a method for sodium-deactivating and/or stocking irradiated nuclear fuel elements, said elements being contacted with a fluid, in which use is made as fluid, of a molten salt mixture which is uncorrosive for the element stainless steels, inert relative to uranium and plutonium oxides by the deactivating temperature and reactive with sodium metal without producing a detonating gas.

Abstract: In a modulator of the type including a memory in which coded binary words representative of samples of a cycle of a sinusoidal signal are stored, which coded words are used to synthesize the modulated signal, the bits of each input digital signal S.sub.i are grouped in groups of P.sub.i bits (P.sub.i .gtoreq.1) and the sampling of the groups is so performed that several samples of each group appear in the multiplexed signal resulting from the sampling. Each sample of each group causes the reading of a coded word. This process gives a wide range of possibilities as concerns the transmission speeds of the input channels and the choice of the carrier frequency and of the number of modulation levels for each modulated signal.

Abstract: A system is provided for maintaining a permanent reciprocatory movement of a mechanical arrangement, particularly a pump unit. A main driving wheel is coupled to the mechanical arrangement and fastened on the shaft of a hydraulic motor which is supplied by a variable delivery pump provided with control means. The control means is coupled to the wheel by a drive mechanism which comprises a rocking lever coupled to the control means and a cam carrier wheel rotationally fixed to the wheel. As the mechanical arrangement moves in one direction, the rotation of the driving wheel causes the cam wheel to change the position of the rocking lever thus permitting the control means to direct the flow of fluid from the variable delivery pump to the hydraulic motor to reverse the direction of travel of the mechanical arrangement.

Abstract: A method for the preparation of very accurate measuring surfaces on measuring elements such as gauge blocks, surface plates, and the like. In one embodiment of the inventive method, the measuring surface is prelapped to a level of two to five microns below the desired final level. Thereafter, the surface is sputter coated with a hard ceramic or cermet layer with a thickness of three to ten microns, and finally the surface is lapped until the final desired level is reached. The invention also comprehends measuring elements made according to the novel method.
Abstract: A machine which has an endless conveyer belt for conveying workpieces past a work station where operations such as, for example, grinding operations are performed on the workpieces. Thus this conveyer belt has upper and lower runs and a support extends between these upper and lower runs and has an upper surface engaging a lower surface of the upper run of the conveyor belt to support this upper run for sliding movement. A part of the upper surface of the support, which engages the lower surface of the upper run of the belt, includes structure for cleaning the conveyor belt at the lower surface of its upper run so as to avoid any possible undesired separation of the upper run of the endless belt from the upper surface of the support.
Abstract: Mechanism for planting plants in soil in standard clods, the entire operation being carried out without manual intervention in selected locations. It comprises a vertical planting tube 1 suspended from an arm 2 carried by a self-propelled appliance. A mechanisms unit integral with a cage 3 can slide along the tube 1, controlling on one hand the opening and closing of the jaw 5, and, on the other hand, the compaction of the earth. The invention can be used for transplanting any species of plant under difficult conditions (ground containing stones and tree stumps) or through plastic sheets.

Abstract: A load dump circuit for a wye connected electric generating machine includes a silicon controlled rectifier connected between the common terminal of the wye and one of the output terminals of the machine. A Zener diode sensing circuit is connected to the common wye terminal and to the control terminal of the controlled rectifier for rendering the controlled rectifier conductive to shunt the output windings in the event of an excessive voltage being developed thereacross as a result of a rapid load reduction or similar condition. Means are also provided to terminate field excitation during the shunting condition.
Abstract: Tetra-substituted ethylenes having the general formula ##EQU1## in which R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl radicals containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and ##SPC1## AND A is selected from the group consisting of ##EQU2## and salts thereof with pharmacologically acceptable acids are useful as anti-inflammatory agents.

Abstract: An over-voltage protection circuit for an electric generating machine having a controlled rectifier for shunting the output winding of the machine in the event of an over-voltage condition includes impedance means connected in series with the controlled rectifier and regulation circuitry responsive to current flowing through the impedance means for preventing the excitation of the field when the controlled rectifier is conductive. An improved triggering circuit including a Zener diode and a transistor switch is employed to assure proper triggering of the controlled rectifier.
