Patent number: 4008875Abstract: A fluid control valve which operates accurately in response to the pressure difference that exists between a pair of ports in the valve. The valve features a spool which is normally biased to one control position wherein it remains with the sensed pressure difference being below one preselected amount. The spool shifts rapidly to another control position on the sensed pressure difference exceeding this amount. In this other control position, the spool remains until the sensed pressure difference drops to another preselected amount which is significantly lower than the first-mentioned preselected amount. On this latter event occurring, the spool returns to its first-mentioned control position.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1976Date of Patent: February 22, 1977Assignee: Cascade CorporationInventors: John E. Patent number: 4007075Abstract: A hollow resin bonded glass fiber column of unique cross section suitable for use as a utility pole, light standard or the like is disclosed including unique means for forming the pole. A rotatable finned mandrel is wrapped with a waxed surfaced paper and then sprayed with a mixture of chopped glass, resin and catalyst which is initially pressed thereon by a roller and then wrapped with continuous bands of fiberglass roving, re-rolled, covered with a fiberglass veil, rolled again and allowed to cure. The finned mandrel which makes relatively thin line contact with the inside of the pole and the wax surfaced paper allows the curved pole to be easily slipped endwise from the mandrel. In one embodiment a metal mandrel having eight radially extending fins has been successfully used to form fiberglass poles of octagonal cross section.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1975Date of Patent: February 8, 1977Assignee: Cascade Pole CompanyInventors: Stephen A. Patent number: 3998878Abstract: Mixtures of oxalic, meso tartaric, glyoxylic and erythronic acids derived particularly from the oxidation of cellulose derivatives are separated from aqueous solutions in which they are contained and from each other by stepwise precipitation with calcium ion at controlled pH. The oxalic acid is precipitated as calcium oxalate at a pH of 0.9 to 2.0; the tartaric acid as calcium meso tartrate at a pH of 2.8 to 4.4; and the glyoxylic acid, as calcium glyoxylate at a pH of 4.5 to 5.4. After each precipitation the water insoluble precipitate is separated from the aqueous mixture in which it is contained. The relatively soluble erythronic acid remains in solution as a free acid, or in the form of its calcium salt.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1975Date of Patent: December 21, 1976Assignee: Boise Cascade CorporationInventors: William Montgomery Hearon, Cheng Fan Lo, John F. Patent number: 3990594Abstract: A load-clamping apparatus wherein the loaded and unloaded condition of the clamping arms (respecting their contacting an external body) is automatically sensed, and used to determine the type of fluid connections which exist at any given moment between fluid motors that move the arms. With the arms moving toward one another, so long as the movement of neither arm is hindered by an external body, a series connection exists between the motors producing relatively high-speed low-power relative movement between the arms. When such hindering occurs, a parallel connection is produced which results, during clamping, in lower-speed higher-power relative movement between the arms. One embodiment of the invention takes the form of apparatus capable simply of producing relative movement between clamping arms toward and away from one another to clamp and release a load. Another embodiment enables this action, plus reversible, common-direction side-shifting of the arms.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1975Date of Patent: November 9, 1976Assignee: Cascade CorporationInventors: John E. Patent number: 3981433Abstract: An easy-open composite container is disclosed having an unbonded helical butt joint that extends the length of the container, characterized by the provision of an impervious inner liner layer having a helical folded portion which is coextensive with and extends the length of the unbonded butt joint. A peelable outer reinforcing or wrapper layer bonded to the outer surface of the fibrous body wall layer normally holds the edges of the butt joint together. Upon removal of the outer reinforcing layer, the ends of the container may be twisted in opposite directions to open the unbonded butt joint and to expand and rupture the inner liner layer folded portion. In the case where products under pressure, such as refrigerated dough products, are packaged in the container, upon removal of the outer reinforcing layer, the products expand to automatically open the butt joint and to expand and rupture the inner liner folded portion.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1975Date of Patent: September 21, 1976Assignee: Boise Cascade CorporationInventors: Dewey B.
