Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of methylolaminotriazines etherified with alkanols and having per mol of the aminotriazine, an analytically determined average of 0.6 n to 2 n preferably 0.7 to 2 n methylol groups, which are etherified to the extent of 30 to 60%, n being the number of amino groups in the aminotriazine, wherein an aminotriazine is warmed to 80.degree. to 130.degree. C. with 0.7 n to 3 n mols of formaldehyde, 2 n to 10 n mols alkanol or a mixture of alkanols having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, the carbon chain of which, if having more than 2 carbon atoms, can also be interrupted by an oxygen atom, and 0 to 5 n mols of water, per mol of the aminotriazine, for 0.2 to 20 minutes, under elevated pressure, wherein the improvement comprises said aminotriazine being first heated to a temperature of 60.degree.-90.degree. C.

Abstract: A water-soluble monoazo dyestuff useful for dyeing or printing natural or synthetic material containing hydroxyls and nitrogen has the formula ##STR1## or a tautomeric form thereof, wherein R.sup.1 is methyl, ethyl or 6-methyl-7-sulphobenzthiazol-2-yl, R.sup.2 is methyl, methoxy or ethoxy, R.sup.3 is methyl or ethyl, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 may be the same or different and are hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, M is hydrogen, alkali metal or ammonium and n is 0 or 1.
Abstract: White patterns on synthetic fiber textiles or patterns of a different color on a colored background are produced by dyeing the material with a dyestuff dischargeable to white, drying the material, printing the material with a discharge resist paste and heating the treated material to 100.degree.-230.degree. C. wherein the discharge agent is a base which produces a pH of at least 8 in a 5% strength aqueous solution.

Abstract: Dyeing and printing with sulfur dyestuffs involves dissolving the dyestuff by reduction. The dissolved reduced dyestuff is applied to the material to be dyed or printed and the dyestuff is reconverted into in soluble dyestuff by oxidation. The present invention improves the prior art by using as the dyestuff reducing agent a compound of the formula ##STR1## or an alkali metal salt thereof, wherein R is --H or --OH and R' is --H, --CH.sub.3 or --CH.sub.2 OH.

Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the manufacture of methanol-etherified methylolmelamines which are largely monomeric containing more than 5 mols of formaldehyde and more than 4 mols of methyl-etherified methylol groups, per mol of melamine, and having a viscosity of less than 20 pascal-seconds at 25.degree. C. and a solids content of at least 95%, comprising (a) methylolating melamine with formaldehyde at a molar melamine:formaldehyde ratio of 1:6.5 to 1:8 for 11/2 to 5 hours at 50.degree. C. to 85.degree. C., with the formaldehyde source being an aqueous solution of formalin containing 30 to 50% by weight of formaldehyde and having a pH of 6.7 to 7.3, and (b) etherifying the resulting suspension of methylolmelamine with 15 to 30 mols of methanol per mol of melamine at temperatures of 30.degree. C. to 60.degree. C. in the presence of a strong acid.

Abstract: Condensation products of .epsilon.-caprolactam, formaldehyde and formamide, especially N-(formylaminomethyl)-.epsilon.-caprolactam and N-(N'-formyl-N'-hydroxymethyl-aminomethyl)-.epsilon.-caprolactam, are prepared by reacting formamide and formaldehyde in the presence of a base and in the presence or absence of .epsilon.-caprolactam at temperatures of 70.degree. to 90.degree. C. for 4 to 15 hours, then acidifying the reaction batch and, if no .epsilon.-caprolactam is present, adding .epsilon.-caprolactam, and distilling off water at 100.degree. to 135.degree. C.The condensation products are valuable modifiers for use in the manufacture of aminoplast resins employed for impregnating paper and fabrics which are used for the manufacture of coated wood-based materials and laminates.
