Abstract: 4-Isopropyl-4'-nitrobenzophenone and other benzophenones of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen, alkyl having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, alkoxy having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, alkyl having 2 to 20 carbon atoms interrupted by oxygen, or alkoxy having 2 to 20 carbon atoms interrupted by oxygen, are prepared by reacting a substituted benzene compound of the formula ##STR2## with p-nitrobenzoyl halide at temperatures of 10.degree. to 140.degree. C. in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst and an inert solvent which is an aliphatic hydrocarbon, a chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon or chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbon.
Abstract: Azo dyestuffs free from groups imparting solubility in water are used in the process for the production of white or variously colored designs on a colored substrate on textile materials containing hydrophobic, synthetic fibers by impregnating the materials with dye liquors containing dyeing auxiliaries and padding auxiliaries as well as dyestuffs which are dischargeable to white, drying or incipiently drying the impregnated materials, printing the materials with an alkaline discharge reserve paste which contains a discharging agent, and subsequently subjecting the materials to a heat treatment at temperatures from 100.degree. to 230.degree. C., wherein said discharging agent is a base which produces a pH value of at least 8 in a 5% strength aqueous solution and the dyestuffs which are dischargeable to white are of the formulaD--N.dbd.N--K--NHSO.sub.

Abstract: New sulphur dyestuffs are prepared by reacting sulphur with a 4-hydroxydiphenylamine of the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R.sup.1 denote hydrogen or alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and the nucleus A has at least one free ortho-position in relation to the imino group, in a first stage at an elevated temperature to form a thiazine compound which is then sulphurized in a second stage in a water-soluble solvent at an elevated temperature to produce the sulphur dyestuff, and wherein a molar ratio of first stage reactants of 1:(2 to 2.4) between the 4-hydroxydiphenylamine compound and sulphur is maintained.
Abstract: An improved process for preparation of arylisocyanide dichloride by chlorinating N-arylformamide in the presence of thionyl chloride wherein the improvement comprises preparing the N-arylformamide by formylation of an arylamine having 6 to 12 aryl carbon atoms with a formylating agent in an inert solvent.removing excess formylating agent and by-products of the formylation thereby leaving the N-arylformamide in the form of a solution or suspension in the inert solvent and chlorinating the N-arylformamide in solution or suspension with a chlorinating agent in the presence of thionyl chloride.
Abstract: In the process for production of discharge reserve prints on textile material comprised of water-repellent fibers or water repellent fibers mixed with cellulose fibers, wherein a disperse dyestuff which is dischargeable to white is applied in the form of a dye liquor or printing paste to the textile material after which said material is dried or incipiently dried, and a discharge reserve printing paste is printed on the material in the desired pattern, and the thus treated material is subsequently subjected to a heat treatment at temperatures of 100.degree. to 230.degree. C., the improvement comprises said disperse dyestuff which is dischargeable to white is a dyestuff of the formula ##STR1## as more fully defined herein and wherein said discharge reserve printing paste contains, as the discharging agent, a base which produces a pH value of at least 8 in a 5% strength aqueous solution.

Abstract: An improved process for producing discharge reserve prints on textile materials comprising water-repellent fibers or mixed water-repellent and cellulose fibers wherein a disperse dyestuff which is dischargeable to white is applied to the textile material in the form of a dye liquor or dye printing paste, at least partially drying the textile material, applying a discharge reserve printing paste to the material by printing on the material in the desired pattern and subsequently heating the printed material at temperatures from 100.degree. to 230.degree. C., with the improvement comprising (a) the discharge reserve printing paste containing, as the discharging agent, an alkaline material which produces a pH value of at least 8 in 5% strength aqueous solution and (b) the disperse dyestuff which is dischargeable to white is a disperse dyestuff of the formula ##STR1## as more fully defined herein.

Abstract: The aqueous dyestuff formulation of an tetrakisazo direct dyestuff which is stable to alkali and contains at least one aromatic hydroxyl group and/or enol group and at least one group conferring solubility in water, or a mixture of such azo direct dyestuffs, is characterized in that it has a pH value equal to or greater than 12 and is prepared by mixing an azo direct dyestuff which is stable to alkali, water and a tertiary alkali metal phosphate and/or alkali metal metasilicate and/or alkali metal hydroxide, and by choosing the proportions such that the dyestuff formulation contains 5 to 50% by weight of dyestuff and has a pH value equal to or greater than 12. The dyestuff formulation is used, after dilution with water, for dyeing and printing natural or synthetic materials containing hydroxyl groups.

Abstract: A 1-acyl-8-[2,3-epoxypropoxy]- and/or 1-acyl-8-[3-halo-2-hydroxypropoxy]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline are reacted with primary and secondary amines to obtain corresponding physiologically-active 1-acyl-8-[3-amino-2-hydroxypropoxy]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines and pharmacologically-acceptable acid-addition salts thereof.
