Abstract: There is described a method of preparing a silver halide sensitized hologram having interference fringes generally parallel to the substrate which comprises effecting an imagewise photographic exposure using actinic light and effecting a holographic exposure using laser light, wherein the reference beam enters the holographic material from the opposite side to the object beam, of the holographic material, the photographic exposure and the holographic exposure being either sequential or simultaneous, developing the holographic material using a silver halide developing agent and then bleaching out the developed silver.In the processed hologram a part of the holographic image when viewed by reflection exhibits a color relatively close to the laser light used for the holographic exposure when exposed for an appropriate time. However, in those areas where the photographic image would have been present before bleaching these areas exhibit a color of a shorter wavelength.

Abstract: There is described a method of preparing working strength solution in a processing apparatus which comprises adding a requisite volume of concentrated solution to a storage vessel until the liquid level on the storage vessel reaches the top of a standpipe in the storage vessel and continuing to add diluent to the storage vessel so that excess liquid in the storage vessel flows down the standpipe to a connected working vessel, stopping the flow of diluent when the volume of liquid in the working vessel reaches a predetermined volume, then commencing to pump liquid drawn in part at least from the bottom of the working vessel into the storage vessel, the excess liquid in the storage vessel flowing into the working vessel, and continuing to pump liquid from the working vessel to the storage vessel until the specific gravities of the liquid in the storage vessel and in the working vessel are the same.

Abstract: A method of preparing a diagnostic strip coated with agarose which comprises preparing a roll of web material so that an aqueous silver halide emulsion can adhere thereto on one side thereof, but which does not have a gelatin or any other proteinaceous layer on the prepared side then coating on the prepared side of the web by a continuous web coating method a layer of an aqueous agarose solution at a temperature of at least 40.degree. C., drying the coated agarose layer to provide a dried layer thickness of from 0.1 to 100 .mu.m which is dry to touch, but which comprises 10 to 50% w/w solids and cutting the coated web into strips of the required size.

Abstract: An apparatus for liquid-processing light-sensitive sheets comprises a processing dish preferably with a horizontal intermediate bottom. The upper side of the intermediate bottom constitutes the lower, and the underside of a lid covering the dish the upper, wall of a passage-gap through which the sheets are transported by pairs of conveying-and-squeezing rollers. The downstream dish sidewall, taken in sheet-transportation direction, is provided near its foot with a horizontal row of injection-nozzles for processing liquid. The dish sidewall opposite the nozzle-bearing sidewall bears a horizontally extending ledge or appropriate flow-reversing configuration effecting 180.degree. reversal of the direction of liquid flow from underneath the intermediate bottom to above the profiled bottom-surface and toward the nozzle-bearing sidewall, generating a liquid stream through the passage-gap in the sheet-transportation direction.

Abstract: An apparatus for spraying plant-protective agents comprises a spray head having a motor, a spray plate mounted on the driving shaft of the former and a first container which is fastened to a lance. The container is connected via a connecting pipe line with a nozzle in the vicinity of the center of the spray plate. Diametrically opposite the mouth of the connecting pipe line in the container, a supply hose is connected with the first container which hose connects the latter container with a portable second container. Thereby, the relatively small first container can be refilled from the substantially larger second container. A large area can, therefore, be sprayed without having to handle the plant-protective agent. This reduces the danger of coming into contact with the plant-protecting agent. The apparatus is particularly suitable for the spraying of insecticides and fungicides.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of 1,4,5,8-tetrahydroxyanthraquinone or 5,8-dichloro-1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone by reacting phthalic anhydride with p-chlorophenol in oleum and in the presence of a boron catalyst, to give the quinizarine boron complex, and chlorinating this boron complex direct with a chlorinating agent, in the same reaction medium, to give the boron complex of dichloroquinizarine, and subsequently hydrolyzing this chlorinated boron complex to 1,4,5,8-tetrahydroxyanthraquinone or 5,8-dichloro-1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone.The novel process is environmentally and economically more advantageous than the sum of each of the individual process steps.

Abstract: A method of monitoring if a stored product has exceeded a predetermined temperature using an assembly, which comprises coated onto a carrier a gelatin layer containing an acidic reactant, color former and an encapsulated non-aqueous solvent.

Abstract: There is described a carton which comprises first, second, third and fourth rectangular side walls hingedly connected in sequence along parallel edges, first and second pairs of opposed overlapping end walls connected to the edges of first and third walls whereby the side walls and the opposed end walls form an enclosure when the overlapping end walls are adhered together and the first and the fourth rectangular side walls are adherently connected by use of an extended end portion of either the first or fourth rectangular side walls, there being tear lines where each of the pair of end walls are connected to the edges of the first side wall, together with a tear line extending across the fourth side wall to both ends of the adjacent edge of the first side wall, whereby the first side wall can be disengaged from a portion of the fourth side wall and from the end walls so that the carton can be opened flat when all three tear lines are severed.

Abstract: Derivatives of 3-aminopropan-1,2-diol of the formula ##STR1## in which Ar represents optionally substituted aryl,n represents the number 0 or 1, andalk represents alkylene having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, the nitrogen atom and the oxygen atom, or, if n is zero, the phenyl radical, being separated from one another by at least two carbon atoms, andR.sub.1 and R.sub.2, independently of one another, each represents hydrogen or lower alkyl, or together they represent lower alkylene, oxa-lower alkylene, thia-lower alkylene, aza-lower alkylene or N-lower alkyl-aza-lower alkylene,and salts of such compounds, processes for their manufacture, medicaments containing the new compounds and their use for the treatment of Angina pectoris and cardiac arrhythmia, and as blood pressure-reducing agents, as well as for the treatment of reactive or endogenic states of depression.

Abstract: Recording material for color photography which contains in at least one photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer, one intermediate layer and/or one protective layer, at least one polyalkylpiperidine compound of the formula I ##STR1## in which n is the number 0 or 1 and X is a group of the formula ##STR2## or of the formula ##STR3## Color-forming agents which are obtained by imagewise exposure and development of this recording material for color photography are particularly stable towards the effect of visible and ultraviolet light.Reference is made to the description in respect of the meanings of the substituents and symbols in the formulae.

Abstract: A light-sensitive recording material which provides polymer images and contains, on a base, a layer of a photocrosslinkable polymer with an average molecular weight of 10.sup.3 to 10.sup.6, the copolymer having been prepared from(1) a (meth)acrylate, (meth)acrylamide or vinyl ether derivative which contains at least one maleimide group of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 together with the carbon atoms to which they are bonded form a 5-membered or 6-membered carbocyclic ring,(2) an ethylenically unsaturated comonomer containing acid groups, this comonomer being present in an amount of at least 18 percent by weight, based on the total amount of the comonomers, and, optionally,(3) at least one further ethylenically unsaturated comonomer which differs from the comonomers (1) and (2).

Abstract: Compounds of the formula(B--L).sub.m A--L'--B').sub.n (1),in which A is the radical of a bisazo or trisazo dye, L and L' are organic radicals and B and B' are cyclic organic radicals and at least one of the radicals B and B' has spectral absorption in the UV region and one of the radicals B and B' is different from 2,4-dihydroxyphenyl, m is 1 or 2 and n is 0, 1 or 2.The compounds are suitable for use as image dyes in photographic silver dye bleach materials.

Abstract: Compounds of the formula ##STR1## where Y is a tertiary group, X is hydrogen or a leaving group, and Q is hydrogen, amidino, alkyl or aryl, there being present in Y or Q a ballasting group which comprises 10 to 30 carbon atoms, exhibit a high secondary absorption in the blue region of the visible spectrum and are useful couplers in chromogenic monochrome negative material.

Abstract: New benzo-1,4-quinones and salts thereof with organic or inorganic acid and bases have the formula I ##STR1## wherein p is 1 or 2 and q is 0 or 1, provided that p+q is 1 or 2, R is a residue of formula II ##STR2## wherein Q is selected from the residues --CO.sub.2 R.sub.4, --CON(R.sub.4)(R.sub.5), --OR.sub.5, --OCOR.sub.7, --N(R.sub.8)(R.sub.9), --PO(OR.sub.10)([O].sub.x R.sub.11), --SO.sub.2 R.sub.12, --CN, Halogen, --NO.sub.2 or --COR.sub.13, n is an integer from 1 to 20, k is 1 or 2 and x is 0 or 1, and R.sub.1 to R.sub.5 and R.sub.7 to R.sub.13 are as defined in the specification.The compounds of formula I are useful in photographic materials such as bleaching inhibitors in films of photographic silver dye bleach materials.

Abstract: A daylight enlarger of the enclosed image framing area type is disclosed and comprises a lamp housing with lamp, lens means and holder for a negative, transparency or the like to be enlarged, and a tunnel body. In order to render the enlarger compact for storage purposes, the lamp housing can be stored in the tunnel body, one end of which can be closed by a viewing screen capable of being removably attached to the end of the tunnel body. A developing easel of the dark slide closable type is also provided to receive material on which an enlargement is to be printed. The easel may be removably attached to the said end of the tunnel body for development purposes after the image has been viewed on the screen and is preferably such that it may also be removably attached to the other end of the tunnel for storage purposes.

Abstract: Apparatus is described for the processing of a film contained in a cassette. The cassette comprises a substantially cylindrical body formed with a light-tight, longitudinally extending film exit slot, end caps to the body and a spool held between the caps and having the film wound thereon. The apparatus comprises a light-tight enclosure, preferably in the form of a columnar body, provided with means shaped to receive and retain the cassette body and provided with a space sufficiently large to receive from the cassette the spool with the film wound thereon. A plunger is provided for engaging the spool of the cassette and for moving it to force an end cap off the cassette body and to move the spool and the film wound thereon into said space where the film can be treated with processing liquid. The processing liquid may be present in the space or can be introduced into it and drained from it through light-tight channels and/or passages. The plunger may pass through a lid of the enclosure or be fixed to it.

Abstract: A method of combating arthropods, comprising applying to the arthropods, or to a habitat infested therewith an arthropodicidally effective amount of an antibiotic which (a) is colorless, very readily soluble in water and in pyridine but insoluble in other customary organic solvents, gives a positive reaction with ninhydrin, sodium metaperiodate/benzidine and potassium permanganate and gives a yellow coloration with iron (III) chloride, (b) has the UV and IR spectra substantially as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, (c) on chemical degradation yields uracil, an amino-hexuronic acid and an amino-acid containing a pyridine ring, (d) on paper electrophoresis proves to be an amphoteric substance and has an isoelectric point at about pH 6 and (e) consists of the elements carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen, or one or more active components of the antibiotic mixture, the active agent being applied alone or in admixture with a diluent or carrier.
