Abstract: Aqueous compositions containing about 0.5-10% of at least one salt of a fatty acid amide of an amino acid, and about 0.05-0.2% of a salt of an acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, or about 0.1-0.75% of a salt of acrylates copolymer, are clear, foamable and ultra-mild on skin. When dispensed by a pump sprayer the compositions afford a dense, uniform, stable foam which when spread on the skin gives an elegant cushioning foam pad effect between the hand and skin.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to the preparation of an aqueous hair dyeing composition containing an effective hair dyeing amount--at least 2 mg/ml--5,6-dihydroxyindole (DHI). An aqueous hair dyeing composition is produced by reacting under essentially anaerobic conditions dopa or a salt thereof with an alkali metal ferricyanide oxidant in an aqueous reaction medium to obtain dopachrome, and permitting the dopachrome to undergo rearrangement in the aqueous medium to form 5,6-dihydroxyindole, said rearrangement being conducted in the substantial absence of oxidant, the aqueous medium being buffered by sufficient buffering agent to maintain a pH of from about 4.5 to about 9 for the reaction medium throughout the series of reactions that take place thereafter, removing the ferrocyanide species present in the aqueous system, and lastly, charging the composition into a suitable container.

Abstract: A process for dyeing hair by preparing and applying to the hair an aqueous reaction medium comprising a dopa species, a reactive direct dye and an oxidant, said aqueous reaction medium optionally containing at least one hair dyeing agent selected from the group consisting of primary intermediates and couplers and also containing a buffer to maintain the pH in the range from 6 to 10 during the reaction, and removing said aqueous reaction medium from the hair within about one hour following its preparation.
Abstract: A process of dyeing hair by preparing and applying to the hair an aqueous reaction medium buffered to a pH of from 7 to 11 with a bicarbonate or a TRIS buffer, a catalytic quantity of a cupric or ferrous salt, a catechol and a persulfate oxidizing agent and removing the composition after the desired color is attained, and compositions and kits for practicing such process. The composition may be formed by simultaneous addition of the catechol and the oxidant to the hair or by addition of the catechol followed by addition of the oxidant.
