  • Patent number: 6098959
Abstract: A pressure regulator for a drinking system for birds or other animals that includes a housing and first and second engaging members for engaging the elongated supports for the fluid supply conduit of the drinking system. The first engaging member includes a pair of ends, each end including a plurality of flexible fingers extending generally parallel to the fluid supply conduit. The second engaging members are adapted to engage the flanges of the elongated supports. The pressure regulator includes a valve element and the housing desirably defines a valve bore for receiving the valve element. The valve element desirably includes a circular seal having a peripheral edge that extends radially inwardly and that includes a lip for sealing the valve bore when the valve element is in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 5996530
Abstract: A drinker, which is connected to a supply pipe, includes a novel attachment member that forces a bird's beak open during activation to deliver water directly into the bird's open beak so that the amount of water the bird receives is maximized. A pin is provided as a valve which selectively blocks or allows flow from the supply pipe to the attachment member. When a bird contacts the attachment member, the bird's beak is forced open and the attachment member substantially prevents contact of the beak with the water flowing through the attachment member, such that the water flows from the supply pipe, past the pin, through the attachment member, out an outlet on the attachment member and into the bird's open beak. A first embodiment of the attachment member includes a double-walled body member having inner and outer walls such that the water flows between the inner and outer walls. A second embodiment of the attachment member includes a single-walled body member.

  • Patent number: 5967167
Abstract: A poultry drinker system includes a number of drinker lines each supplied from a common high pressure water supply through a water pressure regulator. Each regulator includes a reference spring establishing a default minimum water pressure. A centralized remote control system provides regulated low pressure air to the water pressure regulators to augment the reference spring force and remotely adjust the water pressure in the drinker lines. The remote control system periodically applies higher pressure air to the water pressure regulators to increase water pressure and flow rates and sequentially flush the drinker lines. The remote control system includes a source of high pressure air, an air pressure regulator for supplying lower pressure air and a stack of 3-way valves for applying low or high pressure air to each water pressure regulator.

  • Patent number: 5941193
Abstract: A feeder assembly for birds or other animals having a pan member, a feeder tube defining a channel for receiving feed from a feed supply, a plurality of wing members having a plurality of fingers for adjustably engaging the feeder tube, and a cone member disposed about the feeder tube and slidably mounted to the plurality of wing members by a plurality of engaging arms. The cone member is adapted to slide relative to the feeder tube between a lowered position and a raised position. The pan member and an end of the cone member define a feed opening for permitting feed to pass from the feeder tube to the pan member for presentation. The feed opening can be adjusted in size by either adjusting the wing members relative to the pan member or by sliding and adjustably positioning the cone member relative to the feeder tube and the wing members.

  • Patent number: 5906293
Abstract: A method and apparatus for maintaining a substantially uniform mass flow of granular material out of a container. The apparatus includes a converging transition portion defining an input opening which converges to an output opening. The output opening has a transverse opening dimension (x). An elongated chimney portion is coupled to the converging transition portion at the output opening. The elongated chimney portion has a height dimension (y) The ratio of the transverse opening dimension (x) relative to the height dimension (y) is determined by an angle of repose of the granular material to maintain a substantially uniform mass flow of granular material.

  • Patent number: 5839597
Abstract: A retractable lid assembly for covering an opening in a storage bin is disclosed. The retractable lid assembly includes a lid having a first surface facing the storage bin and a second surface opposite to the first surface. A pivot member is pivotably attached to the lid at a first pivot point and pivotably attached adjacent to the opening in the storage bin at a second pivot point. The lid is retracted from the opening in the storage bin by pivoting the lid at the first pivot point and the second pivot point while the first surface of the lid remains substantially facing the storage bin during retraction of the lid.

  • Patent number: 5799613
Abstract: An improved galvanized cage front for use with an animal confinement cage subjected to corrosive environments, and a method of producing same. The improved cage front is constructed of a galvanized steel mesh pattern, which mesh pattern is comprised of line wires and running wires welded together prior to receiving a zinc coating in a galvanization process. The running wires are of lesser gage steel wire than that of the line wires. The method includes the steps of forming the mesh pattern, coating the mesh pattern with a thickness of zinc and coiling the coated mesh pattern into a rolled quantity of predetermined length. No after-galvanization welding is required, and a thicker coating of zinc can be provided to mitigate environmental effects on the cage front.

  • Patent number: 5784996
Abstract: A feed conveyor for delivering feed to poultry cages, floor animals or the like includes a continuous trough member for holding the feed; a continuous spring element which is disposed within and throughout the trough member, and a driving mechanism which moves the spring element along the trough member to move the feed through the trough member to deliver the feed to the poultry cages, floor animals or the like. The spring element is a substantially planar, tortuous member, which is made of a suitable material such as high tensile steel, and which is disposed in a lower portion of the trough member. Preferably, the spring element lays along the bottom of a generally flat-bottomed trough member. The driving mechanism, which may take the form of a mechanically driven sprocket, moves the spring element along the bottom of and through the trough member to move the feed through the trough member to the various poultry cages, floor animals or the like.

The top works structure includes a cover seated within a cover and a reference spring assembly which includes a reference spring and a diaphragm membrane. The reference spring assembly can be adjusted to vary the outlet pressure of the regulator. The bottom works structure includes a body having an inlet through which water flows into the regulator from a supply and an outlet through which water flows out from the regulator to the associated watering system. A structure is provided for substantially isolating said diaphragm from water pressure in said regulator during flushing of the regulator and the associated watering system and during conditions of higher-demand for water.
