Abstract: A method of making a liquid dispersion for the manufacture of a photonic crystal. The method comprises dispersing monodispersed spheres in a liquid to form a liquid dispersion, and subjecting the liquid dispersion to an ultrasonic treatment. Ammonia solution may also be added to the liquid dispersion. The ultrasound treatment breaks up agglomerations of monodispersed spheres, and the resulting photonic crystal made using the dispersion is more highly ordered and hence of higher quality.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for producing dopaminergic neuron progenitor cells from pluripotent stem cells, which method comprises the steps of: (i) performing adherent culture of pluripotent stem cells on an extracellular matrix in a medium containing a reagent(s) selected from the group consisting of BMP inhibitor, TGF? inhibitor, SHH signal-stimulating agent, FGF8, and GSK3? inhibitor; (ii) collecting Corin- and/or Lrtm1-positive cells from the cells obtained in Step (i) using a substance which binds to Corin and/or a substance which binds to Lrtm1; and (iii) performing suspension culture of the cells obtained in Step (ii) in a medium containing a neurotrophic factor.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a personal care composition containing resorcinols. An effective way to improve the color stability of compositions comprising resorcinols is desired. It has been found that alkylresorcinols and retinoids in combination with a compatible oil and specific ratios of antioxidants provide for improved color stability of the resorcinols. The invention thus relates to a composition comprising a synergistic combination of butylated hydroxytoluene and dilauryl thiodipropionate with alkylresorcinols and retinoids.

Abstract: A support for household appliance includes a hydraulic plate which is fixed to the bottom of the household appliance; a sheath, which is fixedly connected with the hydraulic plate; a regulating support, which is arranged in the sheath and is axially movable relative to the sheath; an accommodation chamber, which is formed by the hydraulic plate, the sheath and the regulating support; and a flexible accommodation body, which accommodates a liquid medium and is arranged in the accommodation chamber. The flexible accommodation body extends and retracts to drive the regulating support to axially move in the sheath for leveling under the action of pressure. The hydraulic plate and the sheath can be rapidly, reliably and fixedly connected, the requirements on the strength of connection between the hydraulic plate and the sheath are lowered, and the essential space and height required by the connection are further lowered.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for producing active hepatocyte growth factor activator (HGFA) and active hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) without using animal serum. The present invention relates to a method for producing active HGFA without using animal serum. The method is characterized in that it comprises a step of obtaining a culture supernatant comprising pro-HGFA by culturing mammalian cells expressing inactive hepatocyte growth factor activator (pro-HGFA) in a medium without serum, and a step of adjusting the culture supernatant comprising pro-HGFA obtained in the above step to weakly acidic to convert pro-HGFA into active HGFA. The present invention also relates to a method for producing active HGF with HGFA produced by said method.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for image compression, particularly to an improved block-coding apparatus and method for image compression. Image compression systems such as JPEG and JPEG2000 are known and popular standards for image compression. Many of the advantageous features of JPEG2000 derive from the use of the EBCOT algorithm (Embedded Block-Coding with Optimized Truncation). One drawback of the JPEG2000 standards is computational complexity. This application discloses a relatively fast block-coding algorithm, particularly as compared with the standard JPEG2000 EBCOT algorithm. Computational complexity is reduced.

Abstract: A hybrid computing system comprising a quantum computer and a digital computer employs a digital computer to use machine learning methods for post-processing samples drawn from the quantum computer. Post-processing samples can include simulating samples drawn from the quantum computer. Machine learning methods such as generative adversarial networks (GANs) and conditional GANs are applied. Samples drawn from the quantum computer can be a target distribution. A generator of a GAN generates samples based on a noise prior distribution and a discriminator of a GAN measures the distance between the target distribution and a generative distribution. A generator parameter and a discriminator parameter are respectively minimized and maximized.
Abstract: Provided is an electronic balance that enables a user to recognize the magnitude of disturbances in real time. An electronic balance (1) whose natural frequency is known, includes a load measurement mechanism (4) configured to detect weighing data (Zn), and an arithmetic processing unit (8) configured to perform arithmetic processing by using the weighing data (Zn), wherein the arithmetic processing unit (8) extracts a vibration component (Fr) of the natural frequency from the weighing data (Zn) detected by the load measurement mechanism (4) and displays the vibration component (Fr) of the natural frequency. By using the vibration component (Fr) of the natural frequency as an index of disturbances, it becomes possible to recognize in real time the magnitude of the disturbances during weighing.
