Abstract: The apparatus comprises a pair of pushers synchronously moved at a frequency equal to 1/n of the frequency of pile forming means. The first pusher feeds individual piles into a rejecting and replenishment device, and the second pusher removes individual piles from the same rejecting and replenishment device, and feeds them to an exiting channel wherein individual groups of piles are formed and delivered to the parcelling or cartoning machine.
Abstract: A fastener driving gun with a driving piston actuated by a cartridge to drive a fastener. The piston has an elongated shank with a tapered surface which engages a cooperating surface of the barrel, in the forward position of the piston, to prevent ejection of any substantial portion of the piston in the event of piston breakage. The taper of the piston can be 3% or less.

Abstract: A unitary head, adapted to attachment to the outlet of an extruder contains main inlet duct for passing hot extruded plastic material to a flow regulator which divides and controls the flow of the plastic material into a plurality of calibrated passages. The calibrated passages terminate at jaws which are adapted to grip and hold dies. The plastic material passes from the calibrated passages into the dies and coats the cable passing therethrough. An electric heater on the housing controlled by a thermostat in thermal contact with the housing maintains the housing at working temperature.

Abstract: The invention concerns a travelling wave laser and has application to the reduction of the divergence of laser beams. The electrodes between which the travelling electric discharge for the excitation of the amplifier gas takes place have a cross-section in the shape of two polished rounded-off points facing each other, so as to prevent spurious reflections of light towards the discharge zone and to reduce the divergence of the output beam which is converged by means of a simple optical system.
Abstract: In a method of welding together two submerged pipe ends, the pipe ends are spaced apart and introduced through orifices into a receptacle by which they can be isolated from the surrounding medium. The spaced pipe ends are connected by a connection sleeve and after isolation are welded to the connection sleeve.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for regenerating zinc for use in electric traction batteries. It consists of putting an alkaline solution of zincate in contact with two electrodes at opposite potentials so that zinc dendrites are deposited on protrusions provided on the negative electrode and so that oxygen is evolved on the positive electrode, said zincate solution being, in a first period, called the deposition period, conveyed towards the ends of the protrusions and at a low speed, then in a second period, called the detachment period, conveyed in the opposite direction and at a sufficiently high speed to detach the dendrites from the protrusions.

Abstract: A maintenance-free lead storage battery comprises a container closed by a lid and containing an acid electrolyte together with a block of positive plates, negative plates and separators. The block of plates and separators is tightly packed in a case which is immersed in the electrolyte and which has openings in those of its walls which are in close contact with end ones of said plates.
Abstract: A motorized drive assembly for a circuit breaker operator comprising a follower mounted on a free wheeling double helix shaft which extends in the direction of movement of the operator between "TRIP," "RESET" and "ON" positions, the shaft being driven by an electric motor through a disengageable gearset controlled by a solenoid. The follower engages the operator, and upon rotation of the shaft the follower moves in one direction carrying the operator from a TRIP position to a RESET position. At this point, the follower has moved as far as one of the double helices will carry it in that direction, whereupon internally projecting lugs of the follower engage the other helix for movement in the opposite direction to carry the operator from the RESET to the ON position in which the breaker contacts are closed.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of an isobutyramide is disclosed. A sodium phenolate is prepared by reacting sodium with a phenol in ethanol, an excess of toluene is added to the solution to form an ethanol/toluene azeotrope which azeotrope is then removed by distillation whereafter a N-cyanoalkyl .alpha.-bromo-isobutyramide is added, the mixture is refluxed for a period of 6-15 hours after which water is added to form a precipitate which is then removed from the reaction mixture.
Abstract: An accumulator charging valve has a housing with an inlet and two outlet orifices respectively connected to the pump outlet, to a fluid accumulator and to an open center hydraulic circuit. A main passage is provided between the inlet orifice and the second outlet orifice, with a movable valve member mounted in the main passage, and operated by a differential piston having a face of smaller diameter exposed to the pressure prevailing at the inlet orifice and a face of larger diameter projecting into a control chamber, forming a resilient variable volume enclosure. A leakage passage is provided between the inlet orifice and a low pressure reservoir and has a first portion with an orifice of restricted cross-section situated between the inlet orifice and control chamber, and a second portion also with an orifice of restricted cross-section situated between the control chamber and the reservoir.
Abstract: An apparatus for collecting fluid seepage in a building structure or the like wherein the structure is constructed with generally horizontal slabs having separations therein, such as expansion joints and/or shrinkage cracks, settlement cracks, stress cracks or the like. The apparatus includes first and second elongate barrier strips operably positionable along opposite sides of the separation. A flexible collection sheet is hung from mounting channels on the outer edges of the barrier strips. Drip contour lips are fashioned upon the inner edges of the barrier strips and serve to direct fluid seepage passing through the expansion joint, stress crack, or the like, into the collection sheet.
Abstract: Scroll apparatus for pumping liquids wherein recessed liquid transfer passage means are provided in the end plates of the scroll members. The transfer passage means may be inner passages within the scroll involutes, outer passages outside the scroll involutes or a combination of inner and outer passages. These passages are located and configured to be opened substantially immediately after the orbiting involute wrap has reached that point in its orbiting cycle to define three essentially completely sealed-off liquid zones. These passages remain open at least until the liquid passages between the wraps are sufficiently large to prevent any substantial pressure pulsations within the scroll liquid pump. The scroll liquid pumps may be operated to pump liquid radially inward or outward.
Abstract: A power jack, particularly adapted to equip the control system of an aeroe, including stress-responsive components, for example, a helical coil spring, in which indicator instruments record any locking between the relatively movable elements of the jack, such as a rotatable shaft and an encompassing sleeve to thereby disengage a disengaging element and allow the control functions to bypass the jack.
