Abstract: A process for the treatment of milk serum in order to obtain a demineralized milk serum, which comprises subjecting the milk serum, in a clarified and skimmed state, to electrodialysis, and then to ion exchange with the aid of a strong cation exchange resin in the H.sup.+ cycle and a weak anion exchange resin in the OH.sup.- cycle.

Abstract: A fuel injection device comprises an air valve located upstream of an operator actuated throttle in the air intake passage. The air valve is actuated by airflow through the passage and opens in proportion to the increase in the flow rate of air. Fuel under pressure is delivered to the air passage through an electrically energized injector valve. A metering system which is sensitive to the position of the air valve supplies the valve with repetitive electrical pulses during normal operation of the engine. During cranking, the metering system delivers a continuous energization signal to the valve for maintaining it permanently open. The pressure of the fuel delivered to the valve is substantially decreased during cranking, i.e. as long as a continuous energization signal is delivered to the injector valve.

Abstract: In a substantially conventional system for receiving and conveying a fluid suspension of material there is an endless porous belt screen on which the material is spread and a tray beneath the belt to catch liquid which passes through the belt. A suction box beneath the belt near the area of deposition draws off some liquid. Superimposed on the conventional system is a resonant frequency energy source in the form of a roll assembly consisting in part of an outer shell in the form of an exterior cylindrical roll supported on shock mounts and in constant engagement with the underside of the belt. The exterior cylindrical roll is driven at a circumferential speed equal to the linear speed of travel of the belt.

Abstract: A continuous mixer comprising at least one mixing zone formed by a Transfermix geometry in which the number of starts of the helical thread changes for each of the components along the length of said Transfermix zone in the opposite sense to the change of the cross-sectional area of helical grooves on said component, whereby when in operation a medium moves along said Transfermix zone, portions thereof are successively transferred between the grooves of facing helical threads as giver and taker and whereby grooves of larger cross-sectional area are of greater widths than grooves of small cross-sectional area; in a preferred embodiment the mixer has a driven rotor and stationary barrel, the helical threads thereon being of opposite hand and the number of starts facing one another at any cross-section of the Transfermix zone is such as to make a substantially constant product.

Abstract: The invention encompasses novel 5-substituted-2-phenylbenzo[b]thiophene-3-alkylamines and related compounds of the general formula ##STR1## and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently represents H or an alkyl having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 together with N represents an azamonocyclic ring selected from the group comprising pyrrolidinyl, piperazinyl, substituted pyrrolidinyl wherein the substituent is an alkyl containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms and substituted piperazinyl wherein the substituent is an alkyl containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or an alkanol wherein the alkyl moiety contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms; Y represents H, halogen or alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; X represents H, halogen, alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and alkoxy wherein the alkyl moiety contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and n is a positive integer from 1 to 4. These compounds possess utility as neuroleptics or anti-bacterial agents.

Abstract: A toy vehicle including a chassis member mounting an electric motor and rear wheels driven by the motor is provided. A unitary steering block is pivotally and floatably mounted at a hitching point on the front of the chassis and bears the vehicle front wheels and receptacles for floatably mounting electrical pickups. Mounted within the pick-ups are small springs which insure electrical contact to the track.

Abstract: Change-speed transmission providing multiple forward speeds and at least one reverse speed. An output shaft of the transmission carries a first speed pinion or gear that is rigid with a hollow shaft that carries, in turn, a gear or pinion of the reverse gear train disposed upstream of other forward speed gears or pinions. The reverse gear carries a dog that is separated from a dog carried by the closest forward speed gear by a dog and synchromesh unit. A layshaft mechanism is positioned parallel to the output shaft to increase the number of gear ratios provided by the transmission.

Abstract: A new vincamine salt of therapeutic interest is disclosed. The salt is vincamine pyridoxal 5-phosphate and exhibits surprisingly greater activity than vincamine alone. A process for the preparation of the compound is also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of preparing beta alkaline alumina parts particularly for use as solid electrolytes in electric cells of the sodium-sulphur type. It consists in mixing alumina and an alkaline carbonate in predetermined quantities, heating the mixture, crushing after cooling, forming the parts, sintering them and, after said forming, but prior to sintering depositing a layer of a compound of said alkaline metal on the surface of the parts in contact with the atmosphere to create an atmosphere rich in sodium in the immediate vicinity of the parts during sintering for compensating any loss of the element which may occur from the parts and minimizing the loss of alkaline metal by diffusion towards the outside of the parts.

Abstract: A method of enamelling sheets (e.g. cooker panels) in which hooks are used to suspend the sheets during the enamelling procedure and in which deposits of enamel are prevented from building up on the hooks by covering them initially with an under-coat of non-pellicular aluminium paint. This has the effect of retaining the enamel that may be deposited on the hooks until after firing (thereby avoiding spoiling the enamel of the sheets with particles of broken hook enamel) but of enabling the enamel to be removed after firing either by heating and quenching the hooks or by vibrating them (or both).

Abstract: The pneumatic element which causes partial opening of the choke valve is connected to the intake pipe by a duct having a calibrated restriction. The duct opens into the pipe at a point which is located downstream of the throttle valve under all operating conditions and at another point which is downstream of the throttle when the latter is in the "cold" minimum opening position.

Abstract: Apparatus for obtaining seismic data or information in the field comprises electrical communication paths established between seismic detectors distributed over the ground, and a digital seismic data recorder. Each of the paths comprises a pre-amplifier, various filters, a regulable-gain amplifier, and finally a digitizer, or the paths have these elements at least partly in common. The digitizer operates by carrying out random weighing; it comprises a pseudo-random generator and at least part of the contents of this generator is loaded in parallel into a register. The pseudo-random number thus obtained is converted into an analogue signal and is used for weighing a sample of the seismic signal in a comparator. This gives a single bit each time, which is then recorded in the recorder.

Abstract: Process for drying products wrapped in a humid envelope, and, in particular, rod-shaped products wrapped in at least one tobacco envelope, which consists in bringing into contact with the product, air whose relative humidity is lower than that of the surrounding air, comprising the step of circulating said air at high speed, which is renewed in a continuous manner, in a zone closely surrounding at least part of the product envelope.

Abstract: A capsule containing a substance for making up a drink using an apparatus, said capsule being composed essentially of a sealed body having the general shape of an acute truncated cone with a rim at its base and of a membrane closing the base, said membrane being provided with a line of weakness delimiting an aperture.

Abstract: A device to check and discard lengths of wrapping paper (foil) intended to form the wrapper on packets of cigarettes in a very high speed packet cigarette packer; comprises at least one turning wheel in continuous motion on an axis parallel to the vertical feed plane for the lengths of wrapping paper and disposed opposite the front side of the stop check for the single lengths. Apparatus having idlers is placed, in respect to the feed plane, on the opposite side of the turning wheel in continuous motion mounted on an axis parallel to the axis of the wheel and spaced therefrom. An electromagnetic command controls the check for missing or faulty bundles of cigarettes.

Abstract: The invention relates to means of protection against the shocks of ships coming alongside, particularly for platforms of the off-shore type.Particularly in said platforms, where the height h of the deck above the level of the water is fairly large, the piles must be protected against the impact of ships or other obstacles which are drifting. For this purpose, according to the invention, are provided, mounted on the deck, or brackets integral therewith, protection means having possibilities of deformation and extending from the deck to the level of the water. Different embodiments of these protection means are indicated in the application. A net is provided for the impact of obstacles normally arriving on the corresponding side of the platform.Application: oil-rig platforms.

Abstract: The device comprises at least one toothed roller supported by a rocking lever, and adapted to contact the outer edges of the side flaps of the blanks. Each toothed roller is mounted on a pin by a conventional free wheel device so as to exert a sliding friction on the outer edges of the flaps only during a downwardly directed movement thereof, thereby bending the flaps in a direction opposite to the one naturally assumed by them due to the composite conformation of the stack of blanks.

Abstract: A perimeter alarm apparatus includes a loop of wire to be placed around an area to be guarded and electrical circuitry connected with the loop for detecting the absence of a signal imposed on the loop. The signal imposed on the loop is produced by a sending unit worn by a child, for example, who is intended to remain within the area bounded by the loop. As long as the child is within the area, the sending unit will induce a signal on the loop, but when the child moves beyond the loop a predetermined distance, no signal is imposed on the loop, with the result that an alarm is sounded by the circuitry.

Abstract: A machine for the surfacing of ophthalmic lenses has a working head in which a supporting finger is axially mounted on a pivotable arm. Pivoting of the arm causes the supporting finger to approach a working station. The arm carries actuating means for the supporting finger which control the approach of the finger towards the working station and control the pressure applied by the finger at the working station. In addition, damping means are provided for damping oscillation and vibrations of said supporting finger.

Abstract: Novel 2-aryl-2-[.omega.-(diisopropylamino)alkyl]-.omega.-(azabicycloalkyl)alkana mides are described herein. The present compounds are useful as anti-arrhythmic agents. The compounds are prepared by reacting an appropriate disubstituted acetonitrile with an appropriate .omega.-(azabicycloalkyl)alkyl halide and subsequent hydrolysis of the resulting nitrile with concentrated sulfuric acid.
