  • Patent number: 4111435
Abstract: A fluid-tight sealing device for elements which have a common axis are capable of angular displacement relative one to another, and which define an enclosed space comprises a sleeve arranged for co-axial disposition relative to said elements to be engaged endwise between support surfaces provided on the elements. The sleeve is formed by rigid rings having rings of elastomeric or resilient material interposed therebetween and when in position between the support surfaces the sleeve is axially stressed in compression and is so disposed that it permits angular displacement of the elements by relative angular movement of at least one end of the sleeve in relation to the support surface engaged thereby, by torsional elasticity of the sleeve, or by a combination of both angular movement and torsional elasticity.

  • Patent number: 4112248
Abstract: A terminal box for a lifting magnet has a bottom mounting surface to be secured to the casing of the lifting magnet over a pair of apertures in the casing through which the coil conductor leads pass. An arcuate protective shield of the box extends upwardly from the outer edge of its bottom surface adjacent to the outer edge of the magnet casing and from the side edges of the bottom mounting surface. The protective shield slants inwardly from the outer edge of the magnet as it extends upwardly from its base. A winged housing of the box has a top surface recessed below the upper edge of the shield. Internally, the housing is divided by a walled divider in the shape of an "H" into individually sealable chambers two of which are in communication with openings in the bottom mounting surface. The openings in the bottom mounting surface are spaced to correspond to the apertures in the casing.

  • Patent number: 4109655
Abstract: A multi-penetration vaccination apparatus comprising a mounting having on e side a manually engageable portion for the handling of the apparatus and on the other side one or more levels of supports adapted for removable press-fit of one extremity of concentric sleeves, the free extremity of the sleeves and the central support having a plurality of points for penetration into the skin of the subject. Vaccine is supplied to the points so as to penetrate into the skin along with such points. The vaccine can be contained in a reservoir formed at the bottom of a cover which is mounted on the outer-most of the sleeves to form a sealed enclosure for such vaccine, the points being immersed in the vaccine. Alternatively, the central support can be formed with a bore in which a vaccine capsule is inserted so as to supply vaccine to the points at the time of penetration thereof into the skin of the subject.

  • Patent number: 4110734
Abstract: An anti-theft starting system for automotive vehicles which is characterized in that an unauthorized person attempting to start the vehicle is led to believe that the electrical system of the vehicle is faulty. This is achieved by insertion of a current-limiting means intermediate the starter switch and the starter motor which allows the motor to crank only at a very low current, the impression resulting to the operator that the battery is low, the starter is faulty, or the like. A manually-actuable bypass switch is hidden from view of the driver and must be actuated simultaneously with the ignition switch to bypass the current limiting means.

  • Patent number: 4108866
Abstract: An improved method of producing dialkyl-sulfoxides by oxidizing corresponding dialkyl-sulfides with hydrogen peroxide in aqueous acidic medium. It remedies the drawback of the similar prior art as concerns the separation of the sulfoxide formed from its reaction medium. The new method permits of easily recovering the sulfoxides in the state of good purity. The improvement consists in mixing the reaction medium with a large proportion of a solvent capable of yielding an azeotropic mixture with water. Then, after oxidization, the water is removed by distillation as azeotropic mixture. Preferably solvents are used which dissolve the dialkyl-sulfide but do not dissolve the sulfoxide formed; heptane is a particularly useful solvent. When an excess of the solvent is used, there is obtained, after distilling off the azeotropic mixture, a slurry of sulfoxide and solvent, easy to separate.
