  • Patent number: 4035116
Abstract: Process and apparatus for forming essentially spherical solid pellets directly from a melt, and particularly solid metal pellets such as iron and lead. The melt from a column of a preset height is directed through one or more orifices in a way to form a jet which experiences an upwardly directed trajectory path and which under the influence of vibratory action breaks up to form pellets of a predetermined diameter. Adjustments of the column height and/or vibration frequency are used to control pellet diameter. The pellets may be formed and solidified in a controlled atmosphere; and in the case of iron pellets, the carbon content of the pellets may be adjusted, to attain a desired degree of hardness, either before or after pellet formation. Iron pellets thus formed are particularly suitable as substitutes for lead pellets in ammunition.

  • Patent number: 4033712
Abstract: A combustion apparatus has an exhaust system, a fuel-supply system, and an air-supply system. The ratio of fuel-to-air supplied to the apparatus is adjustable in either direction in response to control information. A temperature signal is developed which has a value proportional to the combustion-produced temperature. A first sample of that temperature signal selected during a first time interval is compared with a second sample of the temperature signal developed during a later time interval. The comparison serves to produce the control information that causes adjustment of the fuel-to-air ratio in the direction seeking a maximum of combustion-produced temperature. Digital logic circuitry is specifically utilized for the purpose of producing the desired control information.

  • Patent number: 4033390
Abstract: A wood splitting wedge is arranged on a vertical support such that the upper end of the wedge can be conveniently struck by a sledge hammer or the like in order to split a log provided immediately below the wedge and supported on a base which also serves to support the lower end of the support or standard. A second wedge is provided intermediate the first wedge and the standard and a handle serves to provide a convenient means for splitting small kindling with the second wedge. The second wedge serves the added function of spreading the sections of larger logs when they are being split in order to avoid jamming of the first wedge.

  • Patent number: 4031646
Abstract: A vertically suspendible filing folder configured for temporarily linking adjacent filing folders to one another for convenience in locating, handling, grouping, sorting and storing. A filing folder is affixed to suspension bars, the ends of which are fitted with suspension hooks suitable to permit a suspendible filing folder to glide between two parallel horizontal rails. A permanent magnet is affixed to one of the two suspension bars so as to expose the magnet toward the outside of the filing folder. The other suspension bar has a region of ferromagnetic material exposed toward the outside of the folder in opposing position to the magnet. The magnetic attraction between the permanent magnet affixed to the suspension bar of one folder and the ferromagnetic region of the suspension bar of an adjacent folder of similar design accomplishes the provisional linking.
