Abstract: Thieno[3,2-c]pyridine derivatives having the formula: ##STR1## in which X is S; R is a phenyl or benzoyl radical optionally substituted with 1-3 halogen atoms or lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxy or nitro; R.sub.1 is hydrogen, halogen, hydroxy or lower alkyl; R.sub.2 is hydrogen or halogen and n is 1 or 2, and in which the symbols R.sub.1 may be different in each CHR.sub.1 when n is 2; and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts.Said derivatives are therapeutically useful for their anti-inflammatory, vasodilatator and blood plate aggregation inhibitor action.

Abstract: The invention concerns a printing device or head for a printer or the like nd to a process of making same. The device comprises a plurality of needles each having an electro-magnet and a metal plate associated therewith, a selected needle being displaceable against an information support upon energization of the associated electro-magnet. The electro-magnets are supported in a base. In accordance with the invention each electro-magnet includes a U-shaped magnetic circuit, the base including housings for magnetic circuits. A surrounding, insulating material is disposed between the arms of the magnetic circuit and around the windings of the electro-magnets.

Abstract: A method for the reversal of shock including hemorrhagic shock and elevation of blood pressure in warm blooded animals including man. An injectable solution of from about 20 to 100 mg 1 kilogram of body weight per day of dihydroxy acetone in a glucose-water solution is administered to the patient. The therapeutic composition is in a dosage unit of from 200 to 1600mg/100 cc of dihydroxy acetone in a hypertonic 5 to 20% glucose solution in water.

Abstract: A cold crucible system is provided which is suitable for carrying out the process of "skull" melting wherein highly refractory materials are melted by inductive heating in a manner to maintain the molten material in a shell of the material cool enough to act as a crucible. The cold crucible system incorporates a crucible formed as two separate halves held in a manner to define a narrow electrically insulating space between them. Each half section comprises a plurality of copper tubes forming half of a "cage." Each tube of the cage has a concentric smaller tube therein whereby there are defined in each tube an outer annular and a central inner fluid passage through which a fluid coolant is circulated. The system is formed as a module capable of being located within a controlled atmosphere chamber. The crucible system is readily adapted to Czochralski crystal growth, for use with a seed crystal to induce directional crystal growth by the Bridgeman technique and to centrifugal casting.

Abstract: A safe has a self-sealing jamb where the door confronts and fits together with the box. This is done by forming the confronting surfaces in the jamb region of a resin material and making the jamb region non-linear in cross section and long enough in cross section so that after an outer portion of the resin material is burned off in a fire, a charred residue and a plasticized portion of the resin material remain in the jamb region to seal the door to the box around the jamb region for substantially preventing heat conduction or passage of hot gasses through the jamb region to the interior of the box. The safe can also be formed in a resin mold for the box and the door with the mold remaining in place when the safe is used. The mold is preferably filled with a non-flammable, thermal insulating material having a substantial volume of chemically bonded water and made thick enough to maintain the interior of the box below 180.degree. C for one hour in an ambient atmosphere of about 927.degree. C.

Abstract: The invention relates to a new structure for a sodium-sulphur cell. Such a cell comprises a cathode tank containing sulphur, an electrolyte tube closed, at its lower end, containing sodium and immersed in sulphur, a sodium anode tank, a ceramic support holding the said tank and the tube, the cathode tank being fitted with graphite felt washers ensuring cathode collection of the current, the outside face of the electrolyte tube being, except for the lower end, lined with a porous insulating coating, a graphite felt part being, moreover, inserted between the said lower end of the electrolyte tube and the bottom of the cathode tank. The invention is implemented in sodium sulphur cell batteries for electric vehicles.

Abstract: A positioning and retaining plate assembly for the controlled location of a spectacle frame comprises three superposed plates slidably mounted in relation to each other. The upper plate, or tray, includes fastening means for a spectacle frame, and is slidable in one direction over the middle plate, or bed plate. The bed plate is slidable in a direction at right angles to the first direction over the lower plate, or base. Locking means are provided for locking the plates in position. The assembly may be mounted on a pedestal provided with a reflective upper surface on which reference axes are marked which can be viewed through apertures provided in the plates.

Abstract: Processes for the separation of a potassium salt of a perfluoroalkanoic acid having at least 1 and at most 12 carbon atoms per molecule or a mixture of potassium salts of a homologous mixture of the said perfluoroalkanoic acids from an aqueous solution that also contains a substantial proportion of one or more watersoluble salts of inorganic acids which process comprises extracting at room temperature the said aqueous solution with an organic solvent which is at least partially miscible with water and in which potassium salts of the said perfluoroalkanoic acids are soluble, the said organic solvent being selected from the group consisting of alkanols having at least 3 and at most 5 carbon atoms per molecule, ketones having at least 3 and at most 7 carbon atoms per molecule, N,N-dimethylformamide and dimethyl sulfoxide, and subsequently recovering the potassium salt of the perfluoroalkanoic acid or mixture of potassium salts of the homologous mixture of perfluoroalkanoic acids.

Abstract: A process for preparing a tea extract is disclosed in which a heated aqueous tea slurry is confined in a first zone separated from a second zone by a liquid-pervious barrier, a body of extraction liquid is maintained in said second zone to permit diffusion of tea solubles from the tea slurry into the extraction liquid, the volume of the slurry being 0.5 to 2.5 times the volume of the body of extraction liquid. After a suitable contact time, the extraction liquid and slurry are removed from the zones and the tea solubles diffused in the extraction liquid and present in the slurry ultimately are combined, intervening processing including, for example, stripping and removing of aromatic volatiles before a final extract product is provided.

Abstract: A self-powered solid state overload relay having current transformers energized by current to a motor to be protected. The transformer has secondary windings connected through diodes to charge a capacitor in a circuit which senses the magnitude of motor current and capacitors in a trip-reset circuit which causes the circuit to be interrupted when the motor current exceeds a pre-programmed value. The diodes in capacitor charging circuits are poled so that the capacitor in the sensing circuit and the capacitor trip-reset circuit are charged by opposite polarity rectified half wave current pulses.

Abstract: 3-O-Alkanoylglyceric acids and their salts having antimicrobial properties are described herein. These compounds also have useful surfactant properties. The subject compounds can be prepared by reacting the appropriate acid chloride with glyceric acid.

Abstract: A light triangular-wing glider, comprises an auxiliary wing or stabilizer, arranged in an average plane approximately parallel to that of the principal wing, in front and above the latter. This auxiliary wing is flexible, principally constituted from a material such as cloth and capable of taking a curvilinear shape under the influence of the relative airstream. The pilot can thereby modify the angle of attack of the whole of the glider and notably pull the craft out of a dive.

Abstract: For extracting a test sample of fluid from a cable or the like, the present invention provides a combination drill and plug that has cutting means at one end thereof and tapered thread forming or cutting means proximate the other end thereof. When the combination drill and plug is driven forwardly by the apparatus and utilizing the method comprising the present invention, the cutting means thereof removes a mass of material in the form of chips and/or a disk and retains the mass of material so that it does not contaminate the fluid in the cable. After a suitable quantity of fluid is removed from the cable, the combination drill and plug is further advanced so that the thread forming or cutting portion thereof engages the hole formed by the drill portion and forms or cuts threads therein so as to seal the cable and permit its further usage without additional leakage of fluid.

Abstract: 1,4-Benzodioxan derivatives of the formula: ##STR1## IN WHICH Ar is an aryl group and X is --OR, where R is hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, or aminoalkoxyalkyl, or ##STR2## where R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl or are joined together to form an alkylene group which may contain an oxygen, sulphur or nitrogen hetero atom, have interesting pharmacological properties.

Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a cytotoxic agent comprising an immunoglobulin specific for antigens on the surface of the cell to be killed having 1-10 polymer carrier molecules covalently bonded thereto and the polymer carrier having 5-500 molecules of a cytotoxic drug covalently bound. The compounds of the present invention are useful as anti tumor agents.

Abstract: A package is disclosed herein that includes a plurality of individual product slices positioned in face abutting engagement with one another, with the lateral edges of adjacent slices being offset relative to one another, and with the lateral edges of alternating slices being positioned in alignment with one another. All of the edges are parallel with one another, and the stack of staggered slices is enclosed within a wrapping material.The package is produced by interleaving a first group of product ribbons within a second group of product ribbons, with the lateral edges of all of the ribbons parallel, and with the lateral edges of the first group of ribbons being offset with respect to the lateral edges of the second group of ribbons. The stack of offset ribbons is severed in longitudinally spaced locations to segregate the stack of ribbons into individual stacks of staggered product slices, which are subsequently wrapped to provide individual packages.

Abstract: A fuel supply device for internal combustion engines has an injector formed with an injection orifice whose cross-sectional area is adjusted responsive to the position of an auxiliary throttle element located in the intake pipe of the engine and opening automatically and progressively in dependence upon the rate of engine intake air flow. The area is also adjusted as an increasing function of the difference between the pressures upstream and downstream of the auxiliary throttle element.

Abstract: This invention relates to an outboard motor assembly and servo mechanism therefor, and particularly to one in which the motor, propeller drive shaft and propeller can quickly and easily be raised as a unit to locate the propeller at a position where the propeller will not cause cavitation at very slow speeds and where it will reduce the draft required for the boat on which the motor is mounted, but at the same time permits immediate lowering of the propeller to a position for high speed operation when deeper water is reached. The above is accomplished by providing an auxiliary transom adjacent the main transom which is mounted for limited reciprocal movement in substantially a vertical direction by a servo mechanism, preferably under the control of the operator of the boat. This enables the boat propulsion means to be quickly changed from a position for slow speed operation to a position for high speed and vice versa.

Abstract: A lifting magnet has lengths of sealed plastic tubing positioned circumferentially of its coil prior to its encapsulation in a magnet case. The tubing is hermetically sealed every few inches along its entire length in order to divide the tubing into individually sealed segments. The sealed segments form compressible air spaces at the outer periphery of the magnet coil which permit thermal expansion of the coil and the encapsulating material without substantial force being applied by the coil and the encapsulating material to the magnet case. In the event any one or a few segments of the tubing are perforated or otherwise disabled in the course of fabrication or assembly of the magnet, the balance of the sealed segments still serve their intended purpose.

Abstract: The reaction of 1-(halo/cyano/sulfonyloxy)alkanoyl-2-(dibenzoxazepine-10-carbonyl)hydrazin es with an amine affords the corresponding 1-(substituted amino)alkanoyl-2-(dibenzoxazepine-10-carbonyl)hydrazines which compounds are useful anti-inflammatory or anti-diarrheal agents.
