Abstract: A portable, foldable, self-standing A-frame barrier and display panel, preferably made up of a single sheet of corrugated material scored and folded along a number of parallel lines to create multiple upright panel sections. When folded to form the A-frame structure, the device is capable of serving as both an upright barrier and a display board. Two side panel sections meet along an apex edge that preferably incorporates retractable handles. Two base panel half sections are folded so as to have their edges meet in the formation of a base support. Elastic cord assemblies are incorporated into the base sections to draw the sections together and to facilitate retention of the A-frame in an upright configuration. Hook ends on the elastic cord assemblies facilitate retention of the A-frame in position on a flat surface.

Abstract: A container may include a secure chamber to hold a medication, a lockable lid that covers an opening of the secure chamber, a dispensing device, and one or more processors. The container may receive prescription information indicating a frequency to dispense the medication and indicating a dose of the medication to dispense at a dispense time. The container may determine the dispense time based on the frequency to dispense the medication. The dispense time may be a time to dispense a dose of the medication. The container may cause the dispensing device to dispense the dose of the medication from the secure chamber at the dispense time.

Abstract: A pest control system for bed bugs or similar crawling pests. The system includes at least one intercept wall extending generally perpendicularly to the plane on which the pests are traveling for directing the pests to interact with a trap or a treatment zone. The effect of the intercept wall may be enhanced by provision of at least one substantially smooth guide surface positioned adjacent the intercept wall. When pests come into contact with a smooth surface they experience difficulty in traversing it. This causes the bugs to cling to the more textured surface that they are already traversing. The intercept wall is preferably placed in the direct path of the transition line between the textured surface and the smoother guide surfaces and forces the pests to interact with an adjacent trap or treatment zone.

Abstract: The invention relates to a tray for transporting and displaying items such as yogurt containers. The tray is of the type comprising a bottom wall (1) and side walls (3 to 5) hingedly connected to the bottom wall and folded upwards at a substantially right angle, and at least one stacking lug (7) extending upwards away from the plane of the side wall, the tray being obtained by folding from a rectangular blank of corrugated cardboard. The tray is characterized in that the blank has a rectangular outline and in that the parts forming the lug (7) are included in said outline. The invention can be used to make trays for transporting yogurt containers.

Abstract: An optical fiber for use in a Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (CARS) endoscope, comprising a core guiding lightwaves at a pump wavelength and at a Stokes wavelength, the core being single-mode at both wavelengths. The core is surrounded by cladding layers, including an inner cladding layer, a trench cladding layer, an intermediate cladding layer and an outer cladding layer. The refractive index of the trench cladding layer is lower than those of both neighboring cladding layers so as to define a trench in the radial refractive-index profile. The bending losses of the fundamental LP01 mode of the fiber at the Stokes wavelength are limited while maintaining high confinement losses for the higher-order LP11 mode of the fiber at the pump wavelength. The combination of the intermediate and outer cladding layers forms a multimode waveguide for guiding a collected CARS signal generated by an object or medium probed with the endoscope.

Abstract: An integrated fluorescence detector for detecting fluorescent particles is described. An example integrated fluorescence detector comprises a substrate, the substrate comprising an integrated detection element for detecting fluorescence radiation from fluorescent particles upon excitation of the particles with incident excitation radiation. The integrated fluorescence detector also comprises a sensing layer adapted for accommodating fluorescent particles to be sensed. The integrated fluorescence detector further comprises a photonics crystal layer arranged in between the sensing layer and the substrate, the photonics crystal layer comprising an absorption material designed such that the photonics crystal layer is configured for diffracting incident excitation radiation into a lateral direction in which the photonics crystal layer extends for incident excitation radiation having a wavelength within at least 10 nm of the predetermined excitation wavelength.

An active system of vision comprises an occultation device comprising: a selection device for selecting the wearer's viewing state; an optical occultation system to occult alternatively a first group and a second group according to the wearer's viewing state selected by the selection device, the first group comprising at least the primary zone and the first regions, and the second group comprising at least the second regions.

Abstract: A method for making use of an automated system with a robot, including the following steps: (i) a management controller (12) authorizes the extraction of a pallet (2) and communicates information to a safety controller (11) concerning the extraction authorization, (ii) a series of presence detectors (7) sends initial height information (HLP) for a pallet (2) on which products (10) are arranged to the safety controller (11), (iii) the safety controller (11) generates reference information based on the initial information received, (iv) the presence detectors (7) send current height information for the pallet (2) to the safety controller (11), and the safety controller (11) compares the current height information to the reference information. If the current information does not correspond to the reference information, then a robot (5) is stopped and/or the safety measures of the enclosure (1) are applied.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method and a device for averting and damping rolling of an engine-driven marine vessel with propeller propulsion. The proposed method recognizes the fact that the speed controller of a ship responds to heel angle variations by propeller speed adjustments. A speed controller is reading such propeller moment change as speed variations to be corrected. By the recurrence of this process, the result is amplifying small rolling effects to a critical rolling. Further elements contribute to this process, such as the propeller side effects ship's hull contact with the sea, waves or winds. However, by suppressing the interaction between heel angle variations and the speed controller, the rolling of a ship can be effectively reduced and averted. The proposed method, by suppressing the cause of the critical rolling, reduces rolling, fuel consumption and maintenance of the ship's propulsion engines.

Abstract: The present invention relates to improvements in the preparation of beverages and, in particular, to an improved cartridge for preparing beverages in brewing machines. The cartridges can also be used for preparing liquid food products. The cartridge comprises a continuous elongate tubular chamber containing the at least one ingredient providing a fluid flow path linking an inlet for the introduction of the liquid at one end of the chamber to an outlet for discharge of the beverage or food product at an opposite end of the chamber. The chamber has an internal width to length ratio in the range of 1:4 to 1:200.

Abstract: A device provides, to another device, a start request for an evolved multimedia broadcast multicast services (eMBMS) session, and receives eMBMS session traffic from the other device based on the start request. The device determines track information from the eMBMS session traffic, and decodes the eMBMS session traffic into a format understood by the device. The device determines quality information associated with the eMBMS session traffic, and presents, for display, the decoded eMBMS session traffic, the track information, and the quality information associated with the eMBMS session traffic.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a roof mounting system that utilizes a base plate that is affixed to a roof surface by multiple fasteners (e.g., lag bolts, screws etc.) and a cap (e.g., top cap) that attaches to the base plate covering the fasteners affixing the base plate to the roof surface. Once attached, the top cap covers the fasteners preventing water infiltration. To further waterproof the fasteners affixing the base plate to the roof surface, the base plate includes a raised or elevated section on its top surface with a planar flange extending around the elevated section. A portion of the flange may be disposed beneath a single or shingles on a roof surface. The fasteners extend through the elevated section. Accordingly, water drains around the elevated section when the base plate is attached to a roof surface further isolating the fasteners.

Abstract: A method and system are disclosed that enables crowd-sourcing of customer care. The disclosed crowd sourcing system may use a diverse workforce, including a business's customer base, an online community, and an employee base. The exemplary crowd-sourcing system may use a service level agreement for the crowd care providers that includes a time constraint period during which the crowd care provider may submit a response to a customer request. Customer requests may be routed to one or more particular crowd care providers or crowd care tiers, whose expertise and/or experience may be taken into account during such routing. In this manner, customer requests may be resolved in a timely fashion without relying solely on an employee base.
