  • Patent number: 8015238
Abstract: A generalized approach to particle interaction can confer advantages over previously described method in terms of one or more of communications bandwidth and latency and memory access characteristics. These generalizations can involve one or more of at least spatial decomposition, import region rounding, and multiple zone communication scheduling. An architecture for computation of particle interactions makes use various forms of parallelism. In one implementation, the parallelism involves using multiple computation nodes arranged according to a geometric partitioning of a simulation volume.

  • Patent number: 8015250
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a system and methods for filtering electronic messages having data therein identifying a link to a remote processing system. One embodiment provides a method which includes interrupting the transmission of the electronic message, identifying a link within the electronic message, and analyzing the electronic message on the basis of at least one of an attribute of the link and of at least an attribute intrinsic to the received electronic message so as to classify the message as either a suspect message or acceptable message. The method further includes modifying the electronic message so as to replace the link with an alternative network location corresponding to a remote processing system different from that corresponding to the link if the message is classified as a suspect message. The method further includes transmitting the electronic message unmodified if the message is classified as an acceptable message.

  • Publication number: 20110212027
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to systems and methods for releasing a releasable species from an article using an external trigger, for example, using microwave radiation or other forms of radiation, e.g., radiofrequency radiation. Such systems and methods may be useful, for example, in biological applications (e.g., as an implant within a subject), industrial applications, commercial applications, or the like. One aspect of the invention is generally directed to an article containing a radiation-sensitive polymer or other radiation-sensitive material. Exposure of the radiation- sensitive material to radiation such as microwave and/or radiofrequency radiation may cause the material to increase in temperature. This increase in temperature may be used, in some cases, to cause the release of a drug or other releasable species from the article.

  • Publication number: 20110211245
Abstract: The invention relates to a transparent electroactive system that includes two electrodes (2, 3) juxtaposed on the same side of a closed space (12) containing electroactive substances. The two electrodes are separated by a distance of less than 250 ?m, and a barrier (1) extending towards the inside of the closed space is placed between the electrodes. The separation between the electrodes is thus not visible, and a mutual neutralization between the electroactive substances is prevented. Advantageously, the electroactive substances are contained in cells (5) separated from each other within the closed space. The barrier (1) can thus be distinct from separation walls (4) between the cells, or can be assimilated with some intercellular walls.

Abstract: A system and method for an electronic public forum to facilitate solicitation support of shareholder initiatives (e.g., for inclusion on an annual ballot or for a special vote, for instance). The public forum may be a web site provided as a service that permits individual stakeholders to view positions of third party entities such as activist non-profits, corporation, and individuals associated with issues related to a company's annual shareholder ballots, for example. Third parties may post general information regarding corporate issues and/or sample ballots on the web site with rationale for their positions. An individual stakeholder may use the proffered sample ballot during voting of their shares. In this way, individuals may align their votes with a particular cause of a third party. Moreover, real time results of any voting may be displayed.

Abstract: A method for processing radionavigation signals coming from satellites that broadcast the radionavigation signals on at least two distinct frequencies, comprises receiving the signals for each satellite, realising, for each satellite, non-differentiated measurements of code and phase (10), determining the widelane ambiguities in a coherent manner on the group of satellites (12, 13, 14) by using the widelane biases associated with the satellites, received from a reference system, and global positioning of the receiver with the help of measurements of code and phase and the coherent widelane ambiguities (16, 18). The global positioning comprises, for each satellite, the determination (16) of a pseudo distance by means of an ionosphere-free combination of the measurements of code and of the difference of the phase measurements, compensated for the widelane ambiguity, this ionosphere-free combination being optimised in terms of noise.

  • Publication number: 20110211661
Abstract: A trellis processing technique for estimating a transmitted signal from a received signal acquired through a channel achieves a reduced computational structure when implementing a DDFSE-like branch metrics calculation by pre-storing computed values, which can be re-used. The technique involves storing differences between a received symbol and different products, each of which is a product of a channel coefficient corresponding to a least time delay and a different possible transmitted symbol. A summation of products is calculated, each product being a product of a possible transmitted signal symbol and a channel coefficient other than the channel coefficient corresponding to the least time delay, the summation being specific to a branch-start state in a trellis. The summation is combined with different stored differences in a calculation of branch metrics leading to different branch-end states in the trellis.
