  • Patent number: 5035461
Abstract: A vehicle folding top is stowed in an associated generally U-shaped folding-top box when the folding top is opened. The folding-top covering held by a folding-top structure is, during the lowering of the folding top, drawn into the folding-top box while, at the same time, run on a directing edge at the upper margin of a limiting wall of the folding top box. The directing edge extends over a middle wall and over a part length of the side walls of the folding-top box and is softened by rounding edges which merge into the wall surfaces. To allow the folding-top covering to be inserted into the folding-top box with a minimum of wear, an additional directing contour is provided above the box and comprises, at its upper margin, a run-on edge set back relative to the directing edge of the folding-top box and a sliding surface located between the directing edge and the run-on edge.

  • Patent number: 5031957
Abstract: An intermediate folding top bow is fastened, via cantilevers arranged at its ends, to lateral roof-frame parts of a vehicle folding-top structure. During the opening operation of the folding-top structure, the intermediate bow is pivotable out of a tensioning position directed forwardly into a stowage position directed rearwardly. To make it possible to ensure that the intermediate bow will be stowed automatically and without being damaged, the intermediate bow is loaded during the opening of the folding top with a pivoting effect by a separate working element so that starting from its tensioning position, the intermediate bow is driven beyond a dead center between its tensioning position and its stowage position.

  • Patent number: 5030166
Abstract: Divided flywheel arrangements having a spring arrangement, and preferably also a slip clutch arrangement, accommodated in a lubricant bath, which is formed by an annular space limited radially outwards only by parts which are stationary relative to one another. Centrifugal forces acting on the lubricant cannot therefore force the lubricant against seals between mutually movable parts. Certain disclosed arrangements do not accommodate these parts in a lubricant bath.

  • Patent number: 5030949
Abstract: A process and apparatus for influencing a central locking system (CLS) in a motor vehicle wherein a separate release of a driver-door closure is provided and wherein, without special preselection measures in the vehicle interior, a vehicle user can, during each release at the locking station assigned to this closure, decide whether he wants to release only this one closure separately, by actuating the corresponding locking station once, or whether he wants to release the closures of the vehicle centrally, by actuating this locking station twice.

  • Patent number: 5010986
Abstract: In a brakeband, two side bands extend from a connecting portion in one circumferential direction and a middle band located axially between these side bands extends from it in the other circumferential direction. The band ends of the two side bands (located opposite the connecting portion) are widened in the direction of the middle band, while the middle band is narrowed at its circumferentially corresponding band region. This provides a larger cross-section for the welded joint between the respective widened band ends of the two side bands and a circumferentially adjacent thrust piece of the brake actuating device.

  • Patent number: 4984841
Abstract: The invention relates to a folding top for vehicles, which comprises a main bow which can pivot about a vehicle transverse axis. At each vehicle side a control arm is assigned to the respective two lateral struts of the top of the main bow serving as component parts of a top framework covered by means of a flexible roof skin. Roof skin retaining rails for tightening the roof skin are arranged on the outside of the struts of the top. These retaining rails are capable of being transferred by means of automatic adjustment mechanisms from a stretching position, spread apart from the struts of the top, which is the case when the main bow is upright and in which position the lower ends of the roof skin retaining rails rest against the side-boards of the associated structure, into a folding position nearer the struts during the course of the swing-back movement of the main bow.

  • Patent number: 4965555
Abstract: In a device for monitoring the liquid level in a tank, utilizing a reed switch projecting into the tank in an internally cylindrical hollow rod and a float provided with a permanent magnet and guided on the hollow rod, the reed switch is constructed as an independent exchangeable part introducible into the hollow rod with an accurate fit and with a small assembly outlay. The slide-in part has three radially resilient abutment zones distributed uniformly around the circumference. In order to accurately introduce the slide-in part into the hollow rod, with a minimum of force, three axial guide grooves associated with the resilient abutment zones are formed radially outwards in the inner envelope surface of the hollow rod. In order to achieve the final accurate fit, the slide-in part, introduced completely into the hollow rod, is rotated until the resilient abutment zones are located in regions between the guide grooves of the hollow rod.

  • Patent number: 4964676
Abstract: A fail safe control for a brake unit with an integral hydraulic brake booster for a road vehicle with a hydraulic dual-circuit braking system having a static front-axle brake circuit and a static rear-axle brake circuit connected respectively to primary and a secondary outlet-pressure space. The primary outlet-pressure space is delimited, by a piston element of the primary-piston arrangement and is in constant communicating connection with a second part space which is delimited by a secondary piston and by two piston elements which are displaceable relative to one another. One of these two piston elements is designed as an annular piston and the second as a plunger piston. A yoke-shaped first axial-force transmission element couples the primary piston with only one of the two piston elements.

  • Patent number: 4959961
Abstract: The invention concerns a supercharged internal combustion engine in which two inlet ducts, which can be closed by inlet valves and whose flows are separated from one another, and two exhaust ducts which can be closed by exhaust valves enter the combustion space of a cylinder, one inlet duct and one exhaust duct being associated with one exhaust gas turbocharger. In order to achieve both a rapid build-up of supercharge pressure in the case of positive load changes and also an optimum homogenization of the mixture in the combustion space, the two exhaust ducts are also arranged so that their flows are separated and the inlet and exhaust side connected to the same exhaust gas turbocharger can be closed by one shut-off element each.

  • Patent number: 4955740
Abstract: The invention relates to a welded joint between plastic parts, the welding quality of which can be checked in a non-destructive way. In particular, a coating of an X-ray contrast medium, of sharply set-off contour and of specific outline shape, is introduced, before welding, in the region of the welding gap. The coating is narrower or smaller than the zone to be welded. It can be a strip of specific width or a pattern comprising recurring contour parts. The coating can be printed on or take the form of an inserted auxiliary film. Coloring pigments based on heavy metal, metal powder, rock dust, powdered glass or ceramic powder come under consideration as X-ray contrast media.

  • Patent number: 4953391
Abstract: The invention relates to a flat-track unit for motor vehicle test beds comprising a roadway-simulating belt guided over two rollers. So that skew angles between belt running direction and wheel plane can be realized as close to reality as possible on the test bed, the frame supporting the guide rollers of the belt is pivotably mounted about a vertical axis and is provided with a pivot drive variable in a high-frequency manner. The drive and braking unit for the rollers is arranged so as to be spaced from the flat-track unit and mounted in a fixed position in the vertical direction, while it is displaceable on a circular arc-shaped horizontal guide running concentrically to the vertical axis. A corresponding displacement drive is provided for the drive and brake unit. The latter causes the drive and braking unit to follow, at a comparatively slow speed, the belt running directions of the flat-track unit and on which belt torsional oscillations are superimposed.

  • Patent number: 4948200
Abstract: A brake pressure setting device suitable for both an antilocking control system and drive slip control system is provided and uses a pressure modulator designed as a stepped cylinder defining a modulation chamber which can be connected to the main brake pipe of the brake circuit of the driven vehicle wheels and a control pressure space separated from the modulation chamber by a modulator piston. The control pressure space anc be connected to a pressure outlet of an auxiliary pressure source of alternatively to its non-pressurized sump tank for driving the pistion. A return spring biases the piston into a position associated with maximum volume of the modulation chamber. Connecting the control pressure space to the pressure outlet of the auxiliary pressure source moves the modulator piston into an end position provided for normal brake operation and suitable as an initial position for antilocking control system operation.
