Abstract: The invention relates to a folding-top covering for a folding top of a vehicle, which is stretched onto a supporting folding-top structure and which comprises two releasably interconnected folding-top covering portions, arranged one behind the other along the length of the vehicle and which are joined in a plane of width of the folding top by being connected to a connecting element by a strip-shaped fastening portion. When the folding-top covering is damaged, the particular folding-top covering portion can be simple and economically exchanged. The folding-top covering is divided along a bow of the folding top and the strip-shaped fastening portion of the folding-top covering parts is clamped to the bow.

Abstract: A top cover for a collapsible top of a motor vehicle is supported, in the region of a windscreen frame of the motor vehicle, by a rigid roof panel located under it. A cloth lug is fastened to the flexible top cover near the rear end of the roof panel and extends in a transverse direction of the vehicle. The lug can be secured to the underside of the roof panel and consequently keeps the flexible top cover resting against the roof panel.
Abstract: A brake shoe adjustment device for internally mounted shoe brakes is arranged between mutually neighboring ends of two brake shoes which are connected to each other via a tension spring. To minimize parts, size and cost the adjustment device has two mutually opposite spreading elements, each of which is held by one brake shoe end. One of the elements is equipped with a threaded shank that cooperates with a threaded bore of the other element. The elements are axially displaceable by a worm wheel gear which rotates the shank in response to turning by an adjusting tool.
Abstract: A vacuum supply system for a brake power assist unit of a motor vehicle with at least one additional vacuum consuming device is achieved by the installation of a valve, which can be switched as a function of existing vacuum level in a pipe leading from the vacuum generating device to the at least one additional consuming device. Switching of the valve causes a throttling of this pipe to be more extensive when the existing vacuum level is above a certain absolute pressure value.
Abstract: In a characteristic-diagram ignition of an internal combustion engine, knocking should be avoided even if there is a sudden change in load or speed. For this purpose, a correction value in the "retard" direction, the amount of which is dependent both on the intake air temperature and on the engine speed, is superposed on the characteristic-diagram ignition point determined. After the retardation has been carried out, the correction value is adjusted within a selectable time in the "advance" direction until the instantaneously valid characteristic-diagram ignition point is reattained.
Abstract: An internal combustion engine comprises a supercharger for supplying charge air and a charge air cooler, which is arranged near the front end of the engine and is adapted to be supplied with charge air. The charge air line extends through the charge air cooler to the air receiver and is connected by a directional valve to a branch line, which bypasses the charge air cooler. In order to achieve a space-saving and compact design, the supercharger and the directional valve are disposed near the rear end of the engine and the air receiver, which in itself constitutes the branch line, is connected at that end which is opposite to the charge air line via a tubular port or the like directly to the directional valve.
Abstract: A process and apparatus for controlling an engine-braking system of an internal-combustion engine driving a vehicle is provided with brake flaps arranged in the exhaust-gas lines and constant-throttle valves provided in the cylinder heads. In the event of an activation of the engine-breaking system, the brake flaps are transferred to their closing position and the constant-throttle valves to their opening position. To exclude the possibility that the internal-combustion engine will stop as a result of a sudden decrease in speed during the engine-braking mode, it is proposed to put the brake flaps in their opening position and the constant-throttle valves in their closing position when the speed of the internal-combustion engine falls below a predetermined threshold value.
Abstract: An adjustable drive connection between an engine crankshaft and engine camshaft is provided by an electric motor connected to the camshaft via planetary gearing to cause relative rotation of an adjusting carrier in relation to a flanged shaft connected firmly to a camshaft. The carrier is fastened to this flanged shaft by means of a thread, so that its relative rotation with respect to the flange shaft is converted into an axial shafting of the carrier along the flange. An actuating element arranged on the carrier is likewise shifted axially. The axial shifting of the actuating element is converted into a relative rotation of the flanged shaft and a chain-wheel carrier driven by a crankshaft via helical teeth on the actuating element.

Abstract: At a vehicle, pressure probes are arranged, which generate signals from which differences and differential quotients are formed. As a result, quantities may be generated by a computer which reflect the angle of incidence as well as the ram pressure of the cross wind on the vehicle.
Abstract: The invention relates to a folding top for vehicles, which comprises a main bow which can pivot about a vehicle transverse axis. At each vehicle side a control arm is assigned to the respective two lateral struts of the top of the main bow serving as component parts of a top framework covered by means of a flexible roof skin. Roof skin retaining rails for tightening the roof skin are arranged on the outside of the struts of the top. These retaining rails are capable of being transferred by means of automatic adjustment mechanisms from a stretching position, spread apart from the struts of the top, which is the case when the main bow is upright and in which position the lower ends of the roof skin retaining rails rest against the side-boards of the associated structure, into a folding position nearer the struts during the course of the swing-back movement of the main bow.

Abstract: A passenger restraint system for motor vehicles is equipped with a safety belt, a belt tensioner, an inflatable airbag and with a switch member which detects the functional position of the safety belt and which is arranged in a belt lock of the safety belt. Activation of the airbag and of the belt tensioner takes place in dependence on the functional position of the safety belt. In order to reduce the risk of injury by the safety belt at medium speeds during the operative period of the airbag, an activatable belt-clamping device on the belt lock and an activatable belt pull-out detent for the shoulder belt are provided. In the presence of a second threshold signal indicating a moderate to serious injury, the airbag is released, the belt-clamping device is arrested. Additionally, the belt pull-out detent is released during the operative period of the airbag.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus determines a predicted corrosion resistance of deep-drawable iron sheets for body parts of motor vehicles. The method is caarried out with a measuring apparatus comprising one or more light sources with which the iron sheet is irradiated. The reflected light is concentrated by lenses, filtered through filters and the filtered light rays are imaged on a plurality of photoreceivers. The ratios of two respective filter wavelengths are evaluated by a computer from the signals thus obtained. From the values of the quotients of the filter wavelengths, predictions can then be made as to the paint migration values to be expected of the deep-drawable iron sheets painted in a later operation. A simple quality control of the iron sheets supplied by manufacturers for the production of components for motor vehicles can be based on these values.

Abstract: A telephone bracket, for example, for vehicles, has a reception recess for a support plinith, on which a hand receiver can be fastened, to which a spiral cable is connected, which is accommodated in a cable storage container, which adjoins the reception reces and has a cavity, which extends in the direction of a vehicle floor and into which a cable deflection member can be inserted from above, which is arranged in it so that it can be quickly removed again and around which the spiral cable is guided.
Abstract: Method of and apparatus for adapting slip threshold values for a propulsion slip and/or braking slip control system to the existing tires of a motor vehicle. Here, the instantaneously effective coefficient of friction between vehicle and road is determined from the measured values of the vehicle speed and vehicle longitudinal acceleration from a graph, and with the predetermined value or the predetermined function for the slip thresholds being substituted or corrected by the slip values measured at the driven wheels by use of an operational state defined by a measurement window of a performance graph.
Abstract: The invention relates to a piston having a variable compression height and two control chambers connected to each other through a hydraulic system. In order to achieve better cold-start and warm-up behavior, an oil discharge bore from the upper control chamber into the crankcase is closed by a control slide valve in the cold operating state of the engine. The blockage of the oil discharge produces a great compression height and therefore high compression. The control slide valve is connected to an expansible element which maintains it in this closed position when the engine is cold. As the engine warms up, the expansible element, due to its thermal expansion, pushes the control slide valve out of its closed position, so that the discharge of oil can occur progressively more unthrottled with rising temperature. In the warm operating state of the engine the control slide valve clears the oil discharge duct completely, and an unobstructed discharge of oil is ensured.

Abstract: A testing device (11) is applied to an acceleration shock sensor (10) of the type having a reed switch (24) that operates such that the net mass of a magnet (40) is accelerated against a spring (50) upon vehicle impact or rapid deceleration of the vehicle. The change in magnet (40) position causes a change in the magnetic field that activates the reed switch (24). The testing device (11) includes an electromagnetic coil (90) mounted in an area of minimal reed switch (24) sensitivity. The electromagnetic coil (90) is connected to be capable of providing a current flow that creates a magnetic field that opposes the magnetic field of the magnet (40). Upon energizing of the coil (90), the magnet (40) is urged to accelerate in a manner that emulates the acceleration of the magnet (40) caused by vehicle collision.
Abstract: A differential gear and control system for motor vehicles having a single driven axle and at least one undriven axle comprises a differential gear and a differential lock, which is adapted to be controlled in dependence on the speed of travel of the vehicle. In order to increase the traction when the vehicle is started whereas the handling of the vehicle should not adversely be affected by a locking of the differential gear, the differential lock is adapted to be controlled so that it exerts on the differential gear a restraining torque which decreases as the speed of travel of the vehicle increases from zero to a predetermined speed of travel.
