Patent number: 5010986Abstract: In a brakeband, two side bands extend from a connecting portion in one circumferential direction and a middle band located axially between these side bands extends from it in the other circumferential direction. The band ends of the two side bands (located opposite the connecting portion) are widened in the direction of the middle band, while the middle band is narrowed at its circumferentially corresponding band region. This provides a larger cross-section for the welded joint between the respective widened band ends of the two side bands and a circumferentially adjacent thrust piece of the brake actuating device.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1989Date of Patent: April 30, 1991Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Gunter Jurgens, Jurgen Pickard, Werner Sell

Patent number: 5011236Abstract: A process for load dependent braking regulations (ALB) utilizing components, signal paths and transmitters of an existing anti-lock braking system (ABS) to perform an automatically load-dependent braking function which takes effect well below the locking limit. The brake pressure and consequently the brake distribution are controlled by processing only wheel-speed differences as actual values of an electronic brake-pressure controller instead of absolute wheel slips. To compensate for changing load situations and roadway properties, the precontrollable brake-force distribution and the brake-pressure level control triggerable at the pedal are corrected in a self-learning and adaptive manner. The device for carrying out the ALB process consists essentially of a computer and software program using input from the ABS systems. The process according to the invention makes axle-load sensors superfluous.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1989Date of Patent: April 30, 1991Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Bernhard Toepfer, Michael Reiner

Patent number: 5010975Abstract: A motor vehicle comprises two driven axles, one of which is adapted to be driven by a drive train, which comprises a liquid friction coupling, which is preceded in said drive train by a clutch, which is adapted in a first position to cause the rear axle to be driven via said liquid friction coupling, in a second position to by-pass said liquid friction coupling and in a third position to disconnect said rear axle from said drive train. In a motor vehicle comprising a transmission comprising at least one cross-country or crawling gear the clutch is adapted to assume said second position under the control of a pick-up, which is associated with the cross-country gear or gears, a switching and control stage, and an actuator in response to the selection of the cross-country gear or one of the cross-country gears. That actuation is independent of the position previously assumed by the clutch. The clutch will remain in that position until a road gear is selected in the transmission.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1989Date of Patent: April 30, 1991Assignee: Steyr-Daimler-Puch AGInventor: Hans D. Patent number: 5009042Abstract: A modular display system is disclosed which exhibits wall elements having vertical interior profiles arranged in the lateral corner regions. The vertical profiles are connectable among themselves by horizontally oriented profiles, and the face side of which exhibits a covering. In order to render such a system particularlly versatile for demounting and use, it is provided according to the invention that the vertical profiles exhibit, in addition to a first contact surface oriented at right angles to the extension of the wall element for the horizontal profiles, a second contact surface oriented in the direction of extension of the wall element for accommodating connection of identical profiles oriented transversely to the latter. Exterior formally rigid covering parts are attachable to the profiles oriented in the direction of extension of the wall element. The vertical profiles exhibit outwards adjacently to the second contact surface a housing channel oriented in the direction of extension of the profile.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1989Date of Patent: April 23, 1991Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Bruno Sacco, Johann Tomforde, Thomas Abb, Bruno Stenemann

Patent number: 5002330Abstract: A positively obtained fold arrangement in a folding-top covering of a folding top is controlled by a round-bending fold which extends in the direction of width of the folding-top covering and is stiffened in terms of bending transversely relative to its path. When the folding top is opened, the folding top covering is drawn into its fold form automatically under the tensile force of a tension-spring element, the tension-spring element being held at its ends at the folding-top covering on both sides of the round-bending fold. So that the fold arrangement can be stowed in a space-saving manner next to associated structure parts of the folding top, while at the same time avoiding creases, measure are provided for stiffening the round-bending fold in terms of bending reinforcing measures, thus allowing a relatively sharp bending of the round-bending fold.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1990Date of Patent: March 26, 1991Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Harald Koppenstein, Jurgen Schrader

Patent number: 5000283Abstract: An adjustable front seat is arranged in a two-door motor vehicle and has a backrest capable of forward-tilting and inclination-adjusting about the same axis. A locking of the backrest with a catch pin is caused by a fork latch, the locking of which is cancelled as a result of a pivoting of a spring-loaded detent pawl. Under adverse preconditions, a secure locking of the backrest can be provided if, when the locking position is reached, the detent pawl falls into the fork latch and the detent pawl interacts with a switch member. When the detent pawl has not properly engaged the fork latch this generates a signal, which, with the associated door closed and the ignition key inserted, activates a backrest-pivoting device for pivoting the backrest forwards while the momentary backrest inclination position is maintained, to pivot the fork latch (supported against the catch pin) about the latter until the detent pawl falls into the fork latch.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1990Date of Patent: March 19, 1991Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventor: Karl-Heinz Krieg

Patent number: 4999777Abstract: Deflection detection pick-ups are arranged at the wheels or wheel suspensions of the vehicle, from the signals of which pick-ups a computer determines an averaged pitch angle. These averaged actual values are compared with predetermined or predeterminable set values. the correction of the supporting forces of the support assemblies effected thereupon by the computer is dependent on the extent to which the vehicle body has to execute pure lifting movements, pure rolling movements and/or pure pitching movements to approximate the actual values to the set values and in which proportions the forces necessary for the damping of rolling or pitching movements are to be applied by the support assemblies of the front or rear wheels. In this case, the forces serving for the compensation of rolling movements can be distributed over the front and rear wheels in such a way that a desired control tendency of the vehicle, in particular a tendency toward under-controlling, is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1989Date of Patent: March 12, 1991Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Robert Schussler, Bernd Acker

Patent number: 4993150Abstract: A process for the production of cup tappets for reciprocating-piston machines having a pressure plate made from wear-resistant alloyed tool steel and a cup casing, welded to the pressure plate, and made from cheap and cold-extrudable steel utilizes a friction welding process to weld the two parts to one another in a crack-free manner. The cup casing blank is produced by the cold-extrusion process and is carbonized before the welding so that good welding results can thereby be achieved despite the considerable strength differences and cross-sectional differences between the pressure plate and cup casing blanks. As a result of a preheating of the pressure plate, an impairment of the cup casing blank during the frictional heating can be compensated and cracks in the workpiece during or immediately after the welding can thereby be avoided.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1989Date of Patent: February 19, 1991Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Rudolf Reinhardt, Hans Zechmann
