  • Patent number: 4730713
Abstract: In a plate clutch, an annular cylinder chamber with a moveable annular cylinder portion is located in a transition region between a radial flange and a cylindrical external plate carrier integral with the radial flange. The position of the annular cylinder portion is fixed in the radial and axial directions relative to the external plate carrier by the flange which fixes the annular cylinder in one axial direction of the clutch axis and by means of a circlip in the other axial direction of the clutch axis. In order to improve the sealing of the working pressure chamber enclosed by the annular cylinder portion, the annular cylinder is supported in the radial directions by means of a ring seal, so that it can move and be also elastically carried on the external plate carrier.

  • Patent number: 4729262
Abstract: A transmission unit particularly intended for use as a differential between driven axles of a vehicle comprises an epicyclic gear train having three rotatable members, specifically, an input member connected to an input shaft, a second member connected to one section of a liquid friction coupling, and an output member connected to an output shaft. To avoid an occurrence of constraining torques as the vehicle is steered and to permit a modulation within a wide range of the relationship between the speed difference between the sections of the coupling and the torque limit of the transmission unit, the second section of the liquid friction coupling is non-rotatably connected to a stationary structure of the transmission unit, specifically to a housing of the epicyclic gear train. Alternatively, said second section of the coupling may be adapted to be held against rotation by a brake, so that the axles of the vehicles can easily be uncoupled from each other.

  • Patent number: 4729259
Abstract: An interaxle differential system connecting two driven axles of a motor vehicle comprises a restrainable differential and a planetary gear train, which comprises three torque-transmitting members which have parallel axes. Two of said torque-transmitting members are operatively connected to two output shafts of the differential. A restraining device is connected to the third of said torque-transmitting members. In an interaxle differential system for use in a passenger car, the restraining device is a controllable liquid friction coupling, one coupling half of which is held against rotation.

  • Patent number: 4728155
Abstract: A modulator for a vehicle with a power-assisted hydraulic multiple-circuit brake system, providing an output pressure to a static brake circuit that is proportional to the sum of the forces affecting a pressure modulator piston. These forces include a pedal pressure from the brake-pressure control device to a first driving pressure space of the modulator and booster pressure from the pressure of a proportional control valve to a second driving pressure space of the modulator, which shifts the modulator piston to decrease the output pressure space. Forces produced by auxiliary pressure in a counterpressure space shifts the modulator piston to enlarge the output pressure space. A control valve arrangement disconnects the second driving pressure space from the booster pressure and instead relieves pressure of the second driving pressure space in pressure-reduction phases of the antilock control.

  • Patent number: 4726438
Abstract: A foot-supporting body in a motor vehicle is provided which is capable of supporting both feet of a passenger while reducing the intrusion depth, reducing the change in intrusion speed and performing deformation work. The foot-supporting body is made as a pure hard-foam moulded body which--arranged on the passenger/driver side of the end wall--extends beyond the left-hand foot-placement area at least as far as the area covered by the brake pedal. The inherent rigidity of the foot-supporting body, as viewed in the loading direction, which can be permanently deformed, is below that of the allocated area of the end wall. Polystyrene--or polyurethane--foamed plastic, with a lower volumetric-weight limit of about 20 g/dm.sup.3 is preferably used as the moulded body material in certain exemplary embodiments.

  • Patent number: 4726630
Abstract: A thrust-control device for a motor vehicle having wheels driven on one axle, with a dual-circuit brake system having a tandem main brake cylinder and a brake booster supplied from a special auxiliary pressure source, with an anti-lock system having a brake-pressure medium return device, and with a pressure accumulator serving for thrust control, is extended for use on vehicles with a connectable or permanent all-wheel drive, to the effect that a stop valve is arranged in the brake circuit of the wheels of the further axle and there is a control valve controlling the accumulator pressure and acting on a pressure modulator, the pressure modulator influencing the brake pressure in the brake circuit of the wheels of the further axle when the drive of these wheels is connected and drive slip occurs. This simple extension requires no additional accumulator and makes it possible to preserve the independence of the brake circuits.

  • Patent number: 4726629
Abstract: A hydraulic brake-power booster unit is provided for a vehicle having a dual-circuit brake system and an antilock system operating according to the drain principle. When the brake system is intact, the booster unit provides dynamic pressure to one of the two brake circuits and static pressure admission to the other. The pressure to the static brake circuit takes place by the separate-power-assisted shifting of an emergency piston. On one side, the emergency piston delimits an output pressure space to which the brake circuit that can be statically acted upon by pressure is connected. This brake circuit also remains operable in the case of a breakdown of the hydraulic power source only by the operation of the pedal and the resulting possible shifting of the emergency piston. A path transducer generates an electrical signal proportional to the position of the emergency piston.

  • Patent number: 4724719
Abstract: A split flywheel for reducing the transmission of vibrations from the engine to the drive shaft at certain frequencies of the flywheel is provided. Included are two flywheel elements drivingly connected to one another wherein one of which is connected or can be connected in a driven manner to the engine and the other of which is connected or can be connected in a driven manner to the drive line. The resonant frequency of the split flywheel unit is well below the frequency of engine vibrations which occur during normal traveling, so that only slight amplitudes of vibration occur between the flywheel elements during normal travel operation. However, during start-up of the engine, the resonant frequency of the flywheel is passed through. The drive connection between the elements a slip clutch having a greater friction contact than the maximum torque of the engine, placed in series with a spring mounting and positioned between the two flywheel elements.

  • Patent number: 4723527
Abstract: A process for increasing the process temperature of an air compressing internal combustion engine includes mixing exhaust gas with the intake air. The amount of exhaust gas to be recirculated is set with reference to speed and load. To achieve an increased process temperature within a short period and with unrestricted internal combustion engine power, the intake air is preheated, taking into account a predetermined limit temperature of the coolant, when the engine is operating between a lower and upper speed range at 90% useful power. The intake air is also preheated in a subsequent speed range, extending up to 90% of the nominal engine speed, at 75% useful power of the engine. Exhaust gas is mixed in with the intake air between a medium to upper speed range and up to 75% of the useful power. The recirculated stream of exhaust gas is reduced, depending on the vehicle velocity and the percentage of useful power.
