  • Patent number: 4693417
Abstract: A heating or air-conditioning system for passenger cars is described that is equipped with a main heat exchanger comprising a ribbed-tube block against which the air flows that is guided into the passenger space and of a forward-flow radiator tank through which water flows and a return-flow radiator tank. The heating or air-conditioning system is also equipped with one or several additional panel radiators that are connected to an additional circulating system and are arranged so that they are distributed at or in the interior of the vehicle. This additional circulating system has a forward-flow chamber that is assigned to the return-flow radiator tank of the main heat exchanger. As a result, the advantage is achieved that the panel radiators, during the heating operation, can be acted upon directly from the main heat exchanger by a lower temperature. Also, the advantage is achieved that the panel heat exchangers in the cooling operation of the air-conditioning system, may also be used for cooling.

  • Patent number: 4693301
Abstract: A road heating installation which is supplied by heat stored in the ground and which includes heat pipes placed heat-conductingly with the road surface, is provided with sensors for detecting the climate factors relevant for the road condition and is equipped with a control apparatus that controls the heating installation as a function of the climate. In order to remove the heat energy stored in the ground only in case of need and to avoid the unnecessary exhaustion thereof, the invention provides that the heat transfer capacity of the heat pipe is controllable by a reversible blocking of the condensation zones of the heat pipes and the blocking is brought about in case of a dry-cold by the supply of an inert gas into the condensation zones of the heat pipes which is quantity-regulatable directly from the outside.

  • Patent number: 4693085
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for increasing the rotational speed of an exhaust gas turbo-charger on an internal combustion engine. The compressor casing of the exhaust gas turbo-charger is located in the engine air induction duct. The compressor includes a compressor impeller and a volute-shaped gas duct, a guide device being located in the induction duct upstream of the suction-side opening of the gas duct. In order to reduce the power consumption of the compressor during idling and lower part-load operation, the inducted air is guided into a bypass duct by means of the guide device, the bypass duct entering the induction duct downstream of the compressor. The compressor is partially evacuated by means of a pressure-reducing device located in the bypass duct.

  • Patent number: 4691562
Abstract: A process is described for the determination of the aging condition of an exhaust-gas catalyst for an internal combustion engine which is fitted with .lambda.-controlled regulation of the fuel/air ratio. In the process, the switching of the fuel/air ratio from rich to lean and vice versa is delayed and the content of the combustibles in the exhaust gas downstream of the catalyst is measured. With delayed switching, complete conversion of the exhaust gas only occurs when the catalyst still possesses its full oxygen-storage capability. Since the oxygen-storage capability decreases with increasing age of the catalyst, the degree of conversion or the proportion of combustible components arising in the exhaust gas when conversion is no longer complete is a direct measure of the aging condition of the catalyst. A catalyst can thus be replaced in good time before it is completely destroyed and before undesired components of the exhaust gas reach the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4683972
Abstract: In a steering system with auxiliary force assist for vehicles, especially motor vehicles, steerable vehicle wheels are connected by way of a steering gear with a steering hand wheel as also with a pressure medium servo motor. A central steering limit valve which reduces the working pressure of the servo motor upon reaching a maximum value of the deflection angle of a steering wheel as fixed by mechanical end abutments at the vehicle, is connected directly with the pump pressure line of a steering assist pump connected with the servo motor and is also controllable by sensors influenced by the deflection angle. In order to be able to utilize the smallest possible turning radius with auxiliary force assist, without having to expose vehicle frame and steering linkage to high servo forces in the abutment positions, the sensors are arranged at the end abutments and produce a control signal changing with the deflection angle.

  • Patent number: 4678361
Abstract: A driving connection between spline shafts and spline bore hubs of safety steering columns, where the shaft and the hub, because of prestressing torque existing between the two, can be shifted with respect to one another axially but are free from torsional play. The prestressing torque is generated by a torsion spring element supported between the shaft and the hub. The required freedom from torsional play is achieved by arranging a main hub and an additional hub on the shaft with the torsion spring element connecting the main hub with the additional hub so that the main hub and the additional hub are spring loaded in opposite rotational directions.
