    Abstract: A head restraint for a vehicle, which in its stowage position is received by a hollow in the rear window shelf of the vehicle and which can be transferred, together with its bearing arms, into an operational position near to the backrest, the bearing arms being supported on the vehicle side on an inside wall of the hollow, so that, in the stowage position, both the head restraint and its bearing arms rest in the hollow. Before, during or after a swinging operation, the head restraint is pivoted in the opposite direction to the swing of the bearing arms, so that employment in a confined space is possible.

    Abstract: A fuel injection system for a mixture-compressing spark ignition internal-combustion engine has a fuel-metering device having a housing with a control cylinder arranged therein, a control piston having at least two control edges being rotatably and longitudinally slidably arranged in said control cylinder. One front surface of said control piston is acted upon by fuel and its other front surface interacts with a pressure spring. Between the control edges, the control piston is equipped with a control space area. The housing has an inflow opening for a fuel inflow pipe, an outflow opening for a fuel return flow pipe in which a pressure regulating valve is arranged, and an outflow opening assigned to a fuel injection nozzle. The outflow opening connected with a control opening in the control cylinder interacts with the control edges.

    Abstract: A fuel tank configured for universal use in the rear region of motor vehicles beneath the vehicle floor is mounted so that it can yield in the case of a rear deformation caused by an accident. The fuel tank is connected firmly to parts fixed to the vehicle in the forward region of the fuel tank in the direction of travel and is retained laterally in the rear region of the fuel tank in the direction of travel by guide bolts or the like in guides with slots open towards the rear, the guides being fixed to the vehicle frame and extending horizontally in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, so that upon rear impact, foreshortening of the vehicle frame causes the guide bolts to leave the guide slots resulting in downward rotation of the rear part of the fuel tank.

    Abstract: A main pump (rotary vane pump 1) and a secondary pump (radial piston pump 2) are driven by way of a common shaft (3), a cam ring (30) being used to drive the secondary pump. The cam ring is coupled to the shaft (3) by way of a shear pin (33). If the auxiliary pump locks, the shear pin fractures and the cam ring (30) can rotate relative to the shaft (3). In that case, the fracture portions of the shear pin (33) are driven into their respective bores (34, 35), thereby avoiding excessive friction and overheating. Therefore, the main pump can continue to operate in spite of the failure of the auxiliary pump.

    Abstract: A measuring device that is moved corresponding to the amount of medium flowing through a housing is provided for measuring the flow rate of a gaseous or liquid medium through the housing. The displacement of the measuring device represents a measurement of the amount of medium flowing through the housing and during the displacement of which, a movable part of a control valve is adjusted for metering a control medium volume that is proportional to the flow of medium in the housing. The measuring means is pivotably mounted at an upstream end to the housing and, at a downstream end, rests against the wall of the housing in its closed position. In order to provide an arrangement that is simple to manufacture and is not susceptible to momentary disturbances and which records the measured values exactly, the measuring means comprises a concavely shaped leaf spring which interacts with the flow of medium.

This system, however, allows a second air bag system to inflate for protecting the front seat passenger in the event of an accident, at the lower threshold speed, regardless of whether the passenger is wearing a seat belt or not.

    Abstract: A system is provided for measuring the amount of oxygen in exhaust gas emitted by an internal-combustion engine. The system includes an exhaust pipe for conducting engine exhaust gas and a probe for determining the oxygen content of engine exhaust gases. The exhaust pipe has a side wall formed to include an aperture for continuously discharging a portion of the engine exhaust gas flowing through the pipe. The system further includes a support housing for positioning the probe at a location outside of the exhaust pipe in proximity to the side wall aperture so that the probe is exposed to the engine exhaust gas portion discharged through the aperture and for collecting exhaust gas in a space surrounding the probe. The aperture is sized to permit exhaust gas collected in the support housing to be reintroduced into the exhaust pipe so that collected exhaust gas will be exchanged continuously with exhaust gas flowing through the exhaust pipe.

The apparatus includes an actuation member that is tiltable in response to movement of a piezoelectric member to accomplish sequential operation of the valve pair, the actuating member being tiltable during a first adjustment stroke counter to the force of the first valve spring about a first axis of rotation defined by a bearing point fixed to the housing and by a compression spring in order to actuate the first valve and move the first tappet to a selected position. The actuating member is also tiltable during a second adjustment stroke counter to the force of the compression spring about a second axis of rotation defined by the bearing point fixed to the housing and by the moved first tappet in order to actuate the second valve.

    Abstract: A buckling protection control system for articulated vehicles, especially for articulated buses is disclosed. Double acting piston cylinder units are interposed between vehicular sections at the hinged connection therebetween to forceably dampen and control the relative angular movement of the vehicular sections during driving of the vehicle. In addition to controlling the buckling movements during proper driver operation of the vehicle, the control system of the invention includes an arrangement for responding to situations where a driver, as a result of a panic reaction, sharply or rapidly steers the vehicle. For this purpose, the invention includes a computer control system which determines a maximum buckling angle value K-max(V) which is dependent on the vehicle velocity V. Irrespective of other driving conditions, the buckling angle is prevented from exceeding this maximum buckling angle K-max(V).

    Abstract: A flexible bearing connects a wheel carrier of a motor vehicle to a wheel guide member and possesses a cylindrical screw bolt which is retained on the wheel carrier and extends freely away from the bearing, the bolt carrying a bearing body which is shock-absorbing in a radial direction and which receives the wheel guide member. The bearing body is attached by means of a cylindrical bore of an inner sleeve onto a radially prestressed metal sleeve which is slotted over its entire length, the sleeve being arranged on the screw bolt with a slight radial play and which projects into a cylindrical bore in the wheel carrier receiving the screw bolt. When the screw bolt is in the tensioned state, the inner sleeve of the bearing body rests frictionally by means of one of its end faces against a bearing face of the wheel carrier carrying the screw bolt. The metal sleeve forms a resilient intermediate member and is located between the inner sleeve and the screw bolt.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for checking sensors, in which the measurement signals, electrically detected in a checking unit and representative of the operating conditions of an internal combustion engine, are statically monitored. The measurement signals are checked with respect to whether their physical measured values are technically significant and lie within the permissible range and if an error is detected, a measure is initiated which counteracts this error; the cyclically detected measurement signals are thereby checked with respect to a change in their measured values from one sampling cycle to a successive one and are accepted only if the change in measured values is within permissible limits. Stochastic disturbances are gated out of the measurement signal and registered and tolerated up to a significant limit. If faulty measurement signals are detected, an emergency operating procedure is activated which counteracts this fault.

    Abstract: An alarm system having improved acoustic signal transmitting capability is provided for motor vehicles. The radio speaker system of the vehicle is employed for both passenger listening and for warning signal transmission in the event of unauthorized intrusion or attempted theft. The speakers occupy their usual installation positions in a vehicle, such as horizontally mounted in the dashboard, when used for the purpose of listening to a radio or tape. When the vehicle is unoccupied, and theft or tampering are attempted, an alarm system is activated which causes a control element to swivel the speaker into a position parallel to an external surface of the vehicle. Due to this repositioning of the speaker, reflection of an alarm signal back into the interior of the vehicle is minimized, and transmission of the alarm signal to the outside of the vehicle is optimized.

This active surface can be subjected to the pressure P.sub.a via a connection to the control valve input pressure.     Abstract: A heatable fuel filter for a motor vehicle engine is provided wherein an electric heating element is positioned between a filter head and filter box. In order to prevent fuel contained in the filter head and fitler box from being discharged to the surroundings when the filter box is changed, the filter box is provided with an element for collecting and containing this fuel. A lid container provided for the filter box is filled by the heating element when the filter box is attached to the filter head and heating element. When the filter box is removed from the heating element and filter head, the volume previously occupied by the heating element becomes available for collecting and containing residual fuel flow from the filter head and heating element. The lid container preferably has a volume greater than the volume of fuel contained in the filter head and the heating element.
