    Abstract: An SOFC fuel cell stack system in accordance with the invention including a recycle flow leg for recycling a portion of the anode tail gas into the inlet of an associated hydrocarbon reformer supplying reformate to the stack. The recycle leg includes a controllable pump for varying the flow rate of tail gas. Preferably, a heat exchanger is provided in the leg ahead of the pump for cooling the tail gas via heat exchange with incoming cathode air. A low-wattage electrical reheater is also preferably included between the heat exchanger and the pump to maintain the temperature of tail gas entering the pump, during conditions of low tail gas flow, at a drybulb temperature above the dewpoint of the tail gas.

    Abstract: A strap with rotatably mounted clip fabricated in a single molding operation. The strap includes a strap retention member and a plurality of teeth. The rotatable clip includes a clip member, a pedestal and a head. The pedestal is retained in a pedestal opening formed through the strap. In fabrication, a top mold insert is slid into a top of first and second mold halves and a bottom mold insert is slid into a bottom of the first and second mold halves. Plastic is then injected into the first and second mold halves to independently and separately form the strap and the clip in a single molding process, wherein the inserts provide a space between the pedestal opening and the pedestal to allow the clip to rotate relative to the strap.

    Abstract: A fitting assembly for connecting an oil cooler assembly to a radiator assembly in a vehicle cooling system includes a radiator having an inlet header tank with an outer wall. The outer wall includes an inlet cooler opening and an outlet cooler opening disposed in the outer wall. The inlet cooler opening is disposed about an inlet axis and the outlet cooler opening is disposed about an outlet axis. An oil cooler having an inlet manifold and an outlet manifold is disposed within the header tank. A fitting interconnects the oil cooler and the header tank of the radiator. A pair of tracks are integrated with the outer wall and are disposed within the header tank. A spring clip extends between the tracks and the fitting for retaining the fitting to the header tank.

    Abstract: A method for regeneration of a CDPF disposed in the exhaust stream of a diesel engine. The method includes a second phase operation following a first phase substantially as disclosed in the prior art. As the first phase ends, as indicated by a temperature sensor at the exit end of the CDPF, the temperature and oxygen content of the exhaust gas are increased at the entrance to the CDPF in an ensuing second stage. These increases cause oxidation of the soot remaining near the entrance and the sides of the CDPF, resulting in a cleaner and higher-capacity CDPF than is produced by a single-phase regeneration in the prior art. The sequential stages are implemented via an algorithm programmed into an Engine Control Module (ECM). A CDPF regenerated in accordance with the invention can have approximately 95% of its filtration capacity restored.

    Abstract: A gaseous fuel injector is provided with a fuel inlet, a fuel outlet, and a conduit for communicating fuel from the inlet to the outlet. The valve seat has a plurality of apertures for providing fluid communication therethrough. The valve has a sealing face for selectively engaging and disengaging the valve seat to selectively prevent and permit fuel from passing therethrough. The valve seat includes a raised seating surface for sealing against the sealing face when the valve is engaged with the valve seat. The raised seating surface is defined by at least one wall that continuously surrounds each aperture. Each wall is in continuous fluid communication with the entirety of each wall downstream of the sealing face when the valve is engaged with the valve seat.

    Abstract: An occupant detection system, a controller for an occupant detection system and a method of detecting an occupant. The presence or absence of the occupant varies the dielectric properties of an area proximate to influence the electrical impedance of the electrode. The electrode impedance is determined based on based on the excitation signal frequency, the excitation signal magnitude, and the electrode signal magnitude, and thereby determine an occupant presence based on the electrode impedance. The excitation signal magnitude is adjusted to optimize the electrode signal magnitude. The electrode signal magnitude is optimized to be large enough to be accurately measured, but not so large as to cause excessive radiated emissions. The excitation signal magnitude may be adjusted for each excitation signal frequency so the electrode signal magnitude is optimized regardless of frequency.

The method further includes determining an air/fuel ratio associated with the engine. The method further includes determining an NH3 deviation value in a calibration table based on the second signal and the air/fuel ratio, utilizing a controller. The method further includes determining an NH3 concentration value based on the first signal and the NH3 deviation value, utilizing the controller. The NH3 concentration value is indicative of the NH3 concentration in the exhaust gases. The method further includes storing the NH3 concentration value in a memory device, utilizing the controller.

    Abstract: A method for detecting an engine block heater includes block heater detection logic and a data table containing calibration thresholds. The method determines a time-series of delta (?) engine coolant temperatures (ECT), which represent the respective differences between a start-up ECT and a plurality of operating ECT values measured thereafter. The method integrates the time-series to obtain a ? ECT integral. The method also maintains an integrated engine speed parameter accumulated over the course of the detection period. Throughout the detection period, the method retrieves a threshold value from the table based on the integrated engine speed (Y-axis) versus an elapsed time (X-axis) since the detection period began. When the calculated ? ECT integral value exceeds the retrieved threshold, the method determines that the block heater was operated, which can thereafter be used to suppress sensor rationality testing or reporting of results thereof.

    Abstract: An improved multiple-tube catalytic reformer comprising a tubular body containing a radiator core having a plurality of longitudinal cells for low-pressure flow-through of combustion gases, the core being formed preferably either by winding of corrugated metal or as an extruded metal monolith. A plurality of reformer tubes, preferably non-cylindrical, containing hydrocarbon catalyst are arrayed in longitudinal openings within the radiator core and preferably are brazed thereto to maximize heat transfer from the radiator core to the reformer tubes. During manufacture, the metal radiator core is economically bored by laser cutting to form the openings to admit the reformer tubes for brazing. Preferably, the reformer tubes are numbered, sized, shaped, and arrayed to minimize the longest conduction path in the radiator core to the center of any reformer tube.
