  • Patent number: 6894742
Abstract: A method of fabricating a liquid crystal display device including the steps of forming a liquid crystal layer by filling a liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable monomer into a gap between a pair of substrates having electrodes; and polymerizing the monomer by radiating ultraviolet light to the liquid crystal composition while applying a prescribed liquid crystal driving voltage between opposing electrodes. The method also includes a step of applying additional ultraviolet radiation to the liquid crystal composition, after polymerizing the monomer, without applying the liquid crystal driving voltage or while applying a voltage of a magnitude that does not substantially drive the liquid crystal.

  • Patent number: 6894741
Abstract: When radiating light onto a liquid crystal composition containing a photosensitive material, the alignment of liquid crystal molecules is adjusted by applying a voltage to the liquid crystal composition layer, to achieve substantially orderly alignment of the liquid crystal molecules, or the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules is made uniform by adjusting the structure of the liquid crystal display device, or any display defect is driven out of the display area. When radiating light to the liquid crystal composition containing the photosensitive material, the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules can be adjusted so as to achieve substantially orderly alignment of the liquid crystal molecules, and the liquid crystal display device can thus be driven stably.

  • Patent number: 6882393
Abstract: A pair of substrates is disposed in parallel at a gap distance therebetween. Liquid crystal material containing liquid crystal molecules having negative dielectric anisotropy is filled in between the substrates. The liquid crystal molecules are homeotropically aligned. On the opposing surface of one of the substrates, pixel electrodes are disposed in a matrix form and data bus lines and gate bus lines are disposed. The gate bus line passes an inner area of each pixel electrode. Switching elements are formed on the opposing surface of the substrate. Each switching element is controlled by the gate bus line at another row. Protrusions are formed on the opposing surface of one of the substrates. The protrusions divide an area of the pixel electrode into a plurality of areas and each is bent on the gate bus line. A domain border regulating unit is formed on the opposing surface of the other of the substrates. The protrusions and domain border regulating unit define the borders of each domain.

  • Publication number: 20050078235
Abstract: It is an object of the invention to provide a display and a method for repairing defects of the same in which defects such as inter-layer short-circuits and short-circuits in a single that have occurred at steps for manufacturing the display can be easily repaired to provide a good product with a probability higher than that in the related art. Laser irradiation is carried out as a first cycle of laser irradiation by forming a slit S1 in a region where a drain bus line 220 completely covers a gate bus line 218 to form a cut portion longer than the width of the gate bus line 218 adjacent to an inter-layer short-circuit 290 such that it splits an intersecting portion of the drain bus line 220 into two parts as shown in FIG. 5b. Next, as shown in FIG. 5c, slits S2 and S3 are respectively used for second and third cycles of laser irradiation to cut the drain bus line 220 at both ends of the cut portion (indicated by S1), thereby isolating the inter-layer short-circuit 290 of the drain bus line 220.
