Abstract: A flow restriction detector for a nozzle assembly of a liquid dispensing machine is capable of detecting a blocked or partially blocked nozzle during the cleaning of the nozzle assembly. During nozzle cleaning, a return plate is attached to the nozzle plate of the nozzle assembly to receive a flow of pressurized fluid from the nozzles. Both the inlet and return fluid lines are provided with pressure sensors, and the return line has a constant back pressure applied to it so that the differential between the inlet and return line pressure sensors is in the range 5-10 psi. The pressure differential is monitored during cleaning and from one cleaning to the next for the purpose of identifying a blocked or partially blocked nozzle. A change of as little as 5% from the pressure differential value established for an unblocked system may indicate a partial blockage of a nozzle.

Abstract: A combination of an engine block heater and electrical coupling includes the conventional cylindrical insert which slides into a sleeve on the mounting member for the block heater. An additional spring clip member is provided to hold the electrical coupling in place. The spring clip member has a collar surrounding a rib on the connector body and a pair of spring arms extending at right angles to the collar along a sleeve of the coupling to snap behind a rib on the sleeve. The spring clip arms are connected to the collar at an outer edge thereof with a pair of lobes of increased diameter between the spring clip arms for pushing of the collar longitudinally. A central opening of the collar engages over the connector body with a pair of inwardly projecting portions which slide along slots to a groove at the rib on the connector body.
Abstract: A method is provided for monitoring the progress of nucleic acid amplifications that rely on a nucleic acid polymerase having 5'.fwdarw.3' exonuclease activity. An important feature of the method is providing an oligonucleotide probe having a reporter molecule and a quencher molecule at either end such that the quencher molecule substantially quenches any fluorescence from the reporter whenever the oligonucleotide probe is in a single stranded state and such that the reporter is substantially unquenched whenever the oligonucleotide probe is in a double stranded state hybridized to a target polynucleotide.

Abstract: Perfluoroindane is used as a gas transport agent in animals without causing gas or vapor pulmonary embolism. Emulsions containing perfluoroindane as the oxygen carrying component are made and infused into an animal and the perfluoroindane escapes at a very rapid rate from the animal body. The perfluoroindane-containing liquids or emulsions are considered valuable for angioplasty and as a blood substitute.

Abstract: A venetian blind headrail and bracket system in which the headrail has a downwardly extending light block panel along a rear edge of the bottom wall, a front upper rim on the front wall and a rear upper rim on the rear wall. The mounting bracket includes an upwardly opening front notch for receiving a lower edge of the front upper rim and a downwardly opening rear notch spaced rearwardly from the front notch for receiving the rear upper rim, and a support ledge spaced below the rear notch for engaging a lower edge of the light block panel to support the headrail in a mounted position on the bracket with a clearance between the rear upper rim and the base of the rear notch. The rear notch has a width sufficiently less than the outer width of the rear upper rim to have an interference fit therewith when the headrail is in the mounted position on the bracket.
Abstract: A method for the sterilization of the internal cabinet of a packaging machine, such as an edible liquid packaging machine, utilizes the introduction of a fog of hydrogen peroxide laden air into the cabinet of the machine followed by hot air. In particular, the method may be used to sterilize a machine that has an endless conveyor for receiving containers and transporting the containers to a container sterilization station, a product filling station, and a container sealing station all within the cabinet. The machine is equipped with a positive pressure airflow though it, whereby the air is passed through a plurality of HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Absolute) filters prior to its entry into the machine cabinet.
