Abstract: The present invention relates to new organosilane esters which can be characterized by the formula Y-(CH.sub.2).sub.n Si(CH.sub.3).sub.p -X.sub.m Z.sub.3-(m+p). In this formula, Y represents either a substituted or unsubstituted amino group, or it represents the mercapto moiety or the moiety ##STR1## X represents an alkoxy group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms and Z a glycol ether moiety. The index n can assume the numerical values from 1 to 3, m can be 0 or 1 and p can be 0 or 1 or 2, on the condition that m+p is equal to or less than 2. The new silanes yield very stable hydrolyzates and have good adhesion-improving properties. They are therefore particularly well suited for use in sealing compositions.

Abstract: A training cartridge has a plastic projectile or plastic dummy projectile wherein the projectile or dummy projectile is integrally molded on a synthetic resin sleeve open at the rear end. The sleeve is inserted in a cartridge case of metal open at its front end. The cartridge case with case shoulder and case neck formed thereon is made to be open also at the rear end so that the synthetic resin sleeve can be inserted from the rear end into the cartridge case in close contact with the inner wall thereof. A separate metallic bottom piece is inserted into the rear end of the cartridge case, sealing the case tightly toward the rear.

Abstract: Cyanacetaldehyde acetals, which can be substituted at the alpha carbon atom, form in a high yield and purity by the transposition of the appropriately substituted 3-alkoxy-nitriles with alcohols in the presence of basic catalysts from the group of the alcoholates of the alkali or alkaline earth metals, followed by deactivation of the catalyst. Short reaction times and high yields combined with a minimum production of byproducts are achieved by the continuous performance of the transposition in the continuous-flow reactor.
Abstract: The present invention is in the modification of starch by silanes and is performed by bringing the starch into intimate contact with the hydrolyzates of the silanes in the presence of alkali aluminates or alkali hydroxides. Preferably this is done in the aqueous solution of the silane hydrolyzate, in which case the additives can be used either in aqueous solution or in solid form. The aluminate or alkali hydroxide is present at least in such an amount that 0.4 mol of aluminate will be present for each mole of silane. The modification is possible not only with alkyl alkoxysilanes, but also with organofunctional alkoxysilanes. The starch modified with the silanes has better practical properties than corresponding unmodified starch and can be used, for example, for the hydrophobation and oleophobation of cellulosic material.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of preparing 2-phenylethylchlorosilanes. Hydrogen chlorosilanes and styrene are used as starting products, and they are reacted together in the presence of benzothiazole. Benzothiazole is used at least in the same amount as the platinum catalyst. The preferred molar ratio of platinum catalyst to benzothiazole is between 1:2 and 1:50. The reaction can be performed with high yields of the 2-isomer, which is virtually free of the 1-isomer, at temperatures up to about 90.degree. C. At the same time, an excess pressure of up to 6 bar is easily tolerable without marked reduction of the yields of the desired product.
Abstract: Enol ethers of the formula ##STR1## and/or the corresponding acetals can be obtained from acyloxymethylene compounds of the corresponding structure by reaction with the corresponding alcohol, in the presence of acid catalysts if desired.

Abstract: Molded parts having high flexural strength, based on alkali silicates, can be produced by casting and/or press-molding and curing by heating from aqueous molding compositions which are prepared from an oxide mixture containing amorphous silicic acid and aluminum oxide, as well as, optionally, as an additional component, aqueous, amorphous, disperse-powdery silicic acid, dissolved SiO.sub.2, and alkali from alkali silicate solutions, optionally alkali hydroxide or its aqueous solutions and, if desired, fillers, by means of mixing under agitation. By addition of a blowing agent inorganic foamed products can be obtained.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the hydrogenation of phthalic acid anhydride to phthalide. A nickel catalyst of low nickel content is used as hydrogenation catalyst, and a benzoic acid alkyl ester as solvent. Small amounts of an alkanol can be added to the benzoic acid ester. On the basis of these specific conditions, the formation of by-products such as toluylic or phthalic acids in the hydrogenation is greatly diminished, and phthalide yields are obtained which, if the preferred conditions are maintained, can amount to as much as 90%.
Abstract: 3-Alkoxy acrylonitriles are obtained directly from the corresponding nitriles by reaction of carbon monoxide and alcoholates followed by reaction with organic halides.
Abstract: Resorcinols of the structure of p-orsellinic acid ester are obtained from pyrones of the formula ##STR1## by the action of no more than catalytic amounts of bases.
Abstract: A support or base for low-vibration mounting of machines or the like is made by hardening a molding material in a mold. The base contains a hardened inorganic material with a density of 2.2 to 3.0, particularly 2.5 to 2.7 g/cm.sup.3, is made from(a) 15 to 30 weight % of an aqueous 30 to 65% potassium hydroxide-potassium silicate solution in which the SiO.sub.2 :K.sub.2 O molar ratio is 1.0 to 2.0:1;(b) 15 to 35 weight % of an oxide mixture containing amorphous SiO.sub.2 and aluminum oxide and/or hydrated amorphous silicic acid in the dispersed powder form and/or metakaolin;(c) 45 to 65 weight % of inorganic particulate fillers. The potassium silicate solution can be made by dissolving hydrated amorphous silicic acid in potassium hydroxide or its aqueous solution, and in this case, component (b) can consist entirely or partially of metakaolin.

Abstract: A spin-stabilized training missile is equipped with a stabilizer device for reducing spinning in order to decrease the flight range. The training missile is designed so that its stabilization attainable solely by the spin upon firing is not sufficient for a stable flight in the practice range. The required additional stabilizing in the practice range is obtained by a stabilizer device or control airfoil effecting simultaneously, after leaving the practice range, such a spin reduction that the training missile becomes unstable and the range of flight is controlled.
Abstract: A forgery-proof flat article, for example, for the production of banking cards, credit cards, and the like, is provided with a security feature analogous to a watermark and is made of thermoplastic and elastomeric synthetic resins based on transparent, translucent, or colored sheets made by extrusion, calendering, blow-molding, or spread coating, or composite sheets therefrom, with an application of a colorant, capable of migrating, to the surface in the presence of a crosslinkable component in the flat article and/or in the colorant application. The colorant application, upon reaching the desired migration depth of the applied colorant, is fixed in the flat article by a crosslinking reaction.
