  • Patent number: 6252137
Abstract: This invention relates to isolated nucleic acid fragments encoding all or a substantial portion of a soybean homolog of the Phaseolus vulgaris PvAlf transcription activator. The invention also relates to the construction of chimeric genes encoding all or a portion of a soybean homolog of the Phaseolus vulgaris PvAlf transcription activator, in sense or antisense orientation, wherein expression of the chimeric gene results in production of altered levels of a plant homolog of the Phaseolus vulgaris PvAlf transcription activator in a transformed host cell. The invention also relates to targeting of the soybean homolog of the Phaseolus vulgaris PvAlf transcription activator to a novel promoter region by the addition of either a DNA-binding domain or a protein-protein interaction domain, thus leading to a higher level of gene expression.

  • Patent number: 6251571
Abstract: Novel thermally imageable monochrome product compositions, elements, and processes are disclosed herein. These compositions and elements characteristically have high contrast and fast imaging speeds. The thermally imageable compositions of this invention contain at least one polymeric binder, a specified leuco dye and a specified hydroxylamine compound. These compositions have the propensity for affording, upon thermal imaging, highly colored images having high optical density values. At the same time, background color is low in preferred compositions even after extensive exposure to ambient light. These compositions can be imagewise heated to effect color formation (i.e., generation of an image) or, in case of compositions containing at least one near IR-absorbing dye, can be imagewise exposed to near IR radiation from a laser or other device to effect color formation (i.e., generation of an image).

  • Patent number: 6252564
Abstract: A process for creating an electronically addressable display includes multiple printing operations, similar to a multi-color process in conventional screen printing. In some of the process steps, electrically non-active inks are printed onto areas of the receiving substrate, and in other steps, electrically active inks are printed onto different areas of the substrate. The printed display can be used in a variety of applications. This display can be used as an indicator by changing state of the display after a certain time has elapsed, or when a certain pressure, thermal, radiative, moisture, acoustic, inclination, pH, or other threshold is passed. In one embodiment, the display is incorporated into a battery indicator. A sticker display is described. The sticker is adhesive backed and may then be applied to a surface to create a functional information display unit. This invention also features a display that is both powered and controlled using radio frequencies.

  • Patent number: 6251646
Abstract: A method for the stabilization of nitrilase activity of unimmobilized or immobilized microbial cells has been developed. The unimmobilized or immobilized microbial cells are stored in an aqueous solution containing from 0.100 M to the saturation concentration of an inorganic salt of bicarbonate or carbonate, including ammonium, sodium and potassium salts of bicarbonate or carbonate. Aqueous suspensions containing at least 100 mM bicarbonate or carbonate limit microbial contamination of the stored enzyme catalyst, as well as stabilize the desired nitrilase activity of the unimmobilized or immobilized cells. Microorganisms which are characterized by an nitrilase activity and are stabilized and preserved by this method include Acidovorax facilis 72-PF-15 (ATCC 55747), Acidovorax facilis 72-PF-17 (ATCC 55745), and Acidovorax facilis 72W (ATCC 55746).
