Abstract: An electronic hand-held device and method for inputting and sending requests and for receiving and outputting responses to the requests. The electronic hand-held device is a coupled to a telecommunications link over which requests are sent and responses are received. The electronic hand-held device derives sufficient electrical power from the telecommunications link in order to power the internal components of the electronic hand-held device that input request data, format requests, send requests, receive responses, and output responses. The electronic hand-held device can input request data in any number of different information media, including audio tones and voice signals, mechanical input to a keypad, printed barcodes, magnetic data stored in credit cards, and electronic data stored in electronic smart cards. The electronic hand-held device can output responses through an audio speaker, a visual LCD display device, and, optionally, through other output devices including printers.
Abstract: A universal hands-free receiver for a mobile telephone includes a base, an adjusting device slidably mounted on the upper portion of the base, an upper holder fixed on the adjusting device to move therewith and having an upper receiving space formed in the bottom thereof, and a lower holder fixed on the lower portion of the base and having a lower receiving space formed on the top thereof opposite to the upper receiving space. In such a manner, the adjusting device is able to move on the base so as to adjust the distance between the upper holder and the lower holder such that the distance between the upper holder and the lower holder is adjustable so as to suit the mobile telephones of different length.
Abstract: The present invention aims to provide apparatus to measure the beat length, the correlation length, the polarization mode dispersion and other characteristics of single mode optical fibers related to the two polarization modes of the fiber at different positions along the length of the fiber. The present invention also aims to provide apparatus for the measurement of characteristics of an optical fiber with access to only one end of the fiber.

Abstract: A novel class of interpenetrating polymer networks which are dispersible in conventional coating solvents is disclosed. Such dispersions are useful in preparing protective and/or decorative film coatings and are particularly useful in photosensitive or imaging formulations such as photoresists, solder masks and the like. These polymer networks are comprised of at least two interpenetrating crosslinked polymers. At least one of the polymer networks is formed by polymerization in a solvent. In one embodiment of this invention, at least one polymer network is prepared from macromers to produce a polymer system having functionalized branch or graft linear segments. The solvent dispersible interpenetrating networks of this invention are particularly useful as binders in addition polymerizable photosensitive compositions containing crosslinking monomers such as solder masks. Upon exposure to actinic radiation and suitable thermal curing, solder mask coatings of such photosensitive compositions form multiple, e.g.

Abstract: Six-membered cyclic carbonates (2-oxo-1,3-ioxanes) in which keto or carbohydrocarbyloxy groups are bound to the 5 position of the ring are disclosed. They react surprising quickly with primary or secondary cyclic amines, and the novel product hydroxyurethanes are usefull as reactive diluents.
Abstract: A joint is formed between adjacent sheets of wall board, particularly in the fabrication of ceiling assemblies in manufactured housing, by applying a pressure-sensitive imperforate paper tape, burnishing it, wetting it, and then applying flexible joint compound over the tape. The flexible joint compound rapidly forms a skin which will receive paint, texture coating, or other finish prior to the complete curing of the flexible joint compound. The retained flexibility of the flexible joint compound, which lasts for at least twenty-four hours, permits the joint to be tolerant of displacement, such as the racking and twisting imposed on a ceiling assembly in transportation.
Abstract: Fractionation of high stearic soybean oils and their use for the production of edible oils and fat products suitable for confectionary and high stability applications is disclosed. High stearic soybean oils which do not contain trans fatty acid isomers, are used to produce fats useful for confectionary applications. In addition, high stearic, high oleic soybean oils having a decreased polyunsaturated fatty acid content are used to produce two products: fats with utility in confectionary applications and liquid, high stability oils.

Abstract: Modified polymers, particularly polyolefins with improved flow over that of polyolefin alone, are produced by reacting polypropylene, maleic anhydride monomer, and a peroxy initiator in a twin-screw extruder. The maleic anhydride monomer is injected as a fluid and is grafted onto the base polypropylene during the degradation/chain scissioning process. Novel, highly-grafted polymers with high melt flow and other useful properties are produced in pellet form.
