  • Patent number: 6200404
Abstract: Compositions and methods for manufacturing sheets having a starch-bound matrix reinforced with fibers and optionally including an inorganic mineral filler. Suitable mixtures for forming the sheets are prepared by mixing together water, unmodified and ungelatinized starch granules, an auxiliary water-dispersible organic polymer, fibers, and optionally an inorganic mineral filler in the correct proportions to form a sheet having desired properties. The mixtures are formed into sheets by passing them between one or more sets of heated rollers to form green sheets. The heated rollers cause the auxiliary polymer to form a skin on the outer surfaces of the sheet that prevents the starch granules from causing the sheet to adhere to the rollers upon gelation of the starch. The green sheets are passed between heated rollers to gelatinize the starch granules, and then to dry the sheet by removing a substantial portion of the water by evaporation.

  • Patent number: 6201096
Abstract: A continuous process for the polymerization of omega-aminonitriles (e.g., 6-aminocapronitriles) which is introduced at the top of a vertical multistage reactor being swept countercurrently with steam and polyamide (e.g., nylon 6) is recovered near the bottom of the vertical multistage reactor. By virtue of independent temperature control at each of the vertical stages of the multistage reactor, the polyamide recovered is typically characterized as having unreacted nitrile end groups of less than 20 gram equivalents per million grams of polyamide, and less than 25 gram equivalents of secondary amine branching per million grams of polyamide.

  • Patent number: 6198858
Abstract: A fiberoptic coupler capable of many functions is presented. The basic fiberoptic coupler has a first sleeve, a second sleeve, a first collimating GRIN or conventional lens, and a second collimating GRIN or conventional lens. The first sleeve holds end sections of two or more input optical fibers along the longitudinal axis of the sleeve. The second sleeve holds an end section of at least one output optical fiber. The end face of the second sleeve faces the first sleeve end face. The first collimating GRIN or conventional lens in front of the first sleeve end face collimates light signals from the input optical fibers and the second collimating GRIN or conventional lens in front of the second sleeve end face focusses light signals from at least one of the input optical fibers into the single output fiber, or at least one of the output optical fibers. With only one output fiber the coupler operates as a combiner.

  • Patent number: 6198079
Abstract: The invention provides a control (15) for an electrical appliance (11) with at least one electrical operating device (13) contained in the appliance (11), the control (15) containing at least one power switching device (17). According to the invention the control (15) has a control unit (21) separate from the electrical appliance (11) and which is connected to the latter in wireless, signal-transmitting manner and essentially contains the control and regulating part for the electrical appliance. In this way an operating and control unit (21) separate or separable from the electrical appliance (11) is obtained and which when necessary can be easily inter-changed as a separate part. A basic version of an electrical appliance (11) can be upgraded with different control units (21) to a final appliance with differing operational scope. • Patent number: 6198449
Abstract: A multiple beam array antenna system including a first group of right-handed circularly polarized subarrays and a second group of left-handed circularly polarized subarrays. Combined signals from the right-handed subarrays are output via low noise amplifiers to a first electromagnetic lens while the outputs of the left-handed circularly polarized subarrays are sent via low noise amplifiers to a second steering electromagnetic lens. A satellite selection matrix output block allows a user to tap into signals from right-handed circularly polarized satellites, left-handed circularly polarized satellites, and linearly polarized satellites. A plurality of satellites (e.g. right-handed satellite “A” and linearly polarized satellite “B”) may be accessed simultaneously thus allowing the user to utilize both signals at the same time.

  • Patent number: H1950
Abstract: Oxadiazines of formula I, wherein R1 is F, Cl or fluoroalkoxy and R2 is alkyl, are prepared by reacting hydrazine derivatives of formula II with a dialkoxymethane in the presence of a protic acid catalyst in an inert solvent under conditions which allow for the prompt removal of the alcohol by-product by distillation. The reaction can be combined with the preparation of the hydrazines derivatives II from the corresponding ketones and hydrazines NH2-NHR3 in the presence of the same protic acid catalyst and an inert solvent. Oxadiazines I are useful as intermediates in the preparation of arthropodicidal agents.
