Abstract: A process of feeding carded fiber to an airlay and particularly to combining carding technology with airlay technology. A carding machine portion is arranged to card fiber while a disperser-roll in the airlay portion picks the individualized carded fibers from a tool bed roll and centrifugally doffs them into an air stream. As such, airlays will be able to handle longer fiber lengths which conventional airlay equipment is unable to handle or satisfactorily open up. Further, an improved process for doffing fiber from a airlay machine and particularly centrifugally doffing fiber from a carding machine.

Abstract: A catalyic process is disclosed for producing fluorine-substituted hydrocarbon products of the formulae RCH2CF2R and RFC═CHR at an elevated temperature, from compounds of the formula RCHFCHFR, where each R is independently selected from the group consisting of —CF3, —CF2CF3 and —CF2CF2CF3 or where both R groups of a formula together are —(CF2)2—, —(CF2)3— or —(CF2)4—. Suitable catalysts include carbon catalysts and catalysts containing at least one compound of a selected metal (e.g., Na, K, Rb, Cs, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Cr, Fe, Co, Rh, Ni, Cu, and/or Zn) supported on carbon.
The saturated gem-dihydro- products may also be produced by hydrofluorinating the corresponding olefinic product over such catalysts at an elevated temperature, and can be combined with various other miscible solvents to form compositions useful for cleaning.

Abstract: Disclosed is an acousto-optic device having a number of acoustic attenuating structures and a method to limit the parasitic effects of a surface acoustic wave. The structures include any combination of the following: surrounding the acousto-optic conversion region with acoustic absorber, placing acoustic absorber near to the transducer(s), placing a strip of acoustic absorber between optical waveguides formed in the device, shaping one or more ends of acoustic waveguides formed in the device to absorb energy from the transducer(s), and/or extending the acoustic waveguides to further limit irradiation of unguided acoustic waves.
Abstract: The blade (12) which is to make the transverse cut of the film in the product packaging station is fixed in the lower part of the grooved section (11) which forms part of the front folder (9) of the packaging machine and has its cutting edge facing downwards. The film to be cut (102) is raised against this blade by a parallel grooved bar (13) with rounded and preferably staggered edges, which in an intermediate phase before its own working travel is also used to raise the section of the film which will have to be cut subsequently, to dispose the film in the correct position for gripping by the lateral grippers (6) of the packaging machine. The said film raising bar is preferably driven by means of a link block, by and electric motor (22) with electronic rotation speed and phase control, controlled by the processor of the packaging machine.
Abstract: This invention aims to provide a method for transport and/or storage of live baits adapted to alleviate a lose occurring in the course of transport and/or storage and to maintain a freshness of the live baits for a long period. The method according to the invention comprises making artificial muddy sand used to transport and/or store live baits. The method comprises the steps of: immersing paper products in artificial seawater to fibrillate the paper products; preparing a mixture of plants cellulose fiber of the paper product fibrillated in the artificial seawater and muddy sand of the live baits' native seashore; and forming granular artificial muddy sand containing an amount of seawater from the mixture.
Abstract: A new method for the identification of useful promoters is disclosed. The method is capable of identifying bacterial promoters sensitive to a particular cellular insult and may be modified to identify promoters sensitive to herbicides and crop protection chemicals. Constructs comprising promoters upstream of a luminescent reporter genes are placed in transformed hosts. Transformants grown in liquid media to a predetermined growth stage and contacted with a cellular insult are assessed for regulatory region activity by measurement of the resulting change in bioluminescence. The method is able to identify promoters undetectable by standard methods.
