The vortical flow of cooling liquid has a component of circulatory motion in the circumferential direction around the outer shell surface of the tube and a component of motion in the axial direction with respect to the tube. A device for the application of the method has a container (1) for the tube (T), with at least one source (18, 217) of supply of an external cooling liquid flow, and with an outlet (101) for the discharge of the flow from the container (1). The source (18, 217) of supply of the external cooling liquid flow is such that it generates the flow in a circumferential direction with respect to the tube (T).

Abstract: A seal apparatus is disclosed for sealing an outlet of a pressurized chamber from fluid loss from the chamber and contamination to the chamber. The apparatus includes certain combinations of (a) a chamber outlet structure; (b) a removable cover; (c) means for reversibly connecting the cover to the chamber outlet structure; and (d) a compressible self-energizing ring having a surface which consists essentially of a material selected from the group consisting of noble metals, noble metal alloys and polytetrafluoroethylene, which has a hardness selected to substantially avoid deformation when the cover is sealed to the chamber outlet structure. Also disclosed are certain pressure vessels for hydrothermal crystal growth using a crystal growth media, which comprise (a) a vessel base and (b) a removable vessel cover.
Abstract: A solvent mixture of a petroleum distillate and toluene is disclosed. The solvent is used to dissolve a hydrocarbon resin and block copolymers of styrene and isoprene or styrene and butadiene and the solution is applied to newly constructed basement walls to provide a water-resistant elastomeric coating on the walls.
Abstract: A sandal includes a pair of heel posts on a sole, a heel strap between the heel posts, a toe post on the sole, an adjustable toe strap, and an adjustable cinch strap attached to the toe post. The cinch strap has a longitudinal portion which extends longitudinally through a heel cinch on one of the heel posts, and a transverse instep portion which thereupon extends transversely through a heel cinch on another heel post. The adjustable toe and cinch straps ensures a secure, custom fit.
Abstract: A sealant composition comprises a dispersion of a fluorocarbon polymer with particles no larger than 25 micrometers in a low volatility liquid and up to 50 percent of a higher volatility liquid. Also covered is an applicator for applying the sealant to the gasket of an electrochemical cell.
Abstract: A petroleum product spill containment and recovery system is disclosed which comprises circumventing an off-shore spill with multiple containment float/recovery trough sections for collecting the spilled petroleum from the water's surface. The water and petroleum mixture is transferred from the collection trough (by a heavy duty pump) to a separation tank, and, upon separation from the water, the recovered petroleum is transferred to a storage tank.
Abstract: Walking-beam furnace for the accelerated heating of billets or the like, in which the upper surfaces of the mobile beams (1) and of the fixed beams (1') are made up of billet-tipping ridges (5, 4) having profiles which interact during operation so as to cause rotation of the billets about their longitudinal axes as they advance through the furnace. According to the invention, the billet-tipping ridges (4, 5) of the fixed beams (1') and of the mobile beams (1) consist of a plurality of modular elements (7, 8, 9, 10) in the form of billet-tipping ridge segments which are mutually aligned along the length of the beams (1, 1'). The ridge segments (7, 8, 9, 10) have additional features which improve operation of the billet-tipping ridges (4, 5).
