Abstract: Terpolymers of various amounts of polymer repeat units of ethylene, ethyl acrylate, and carbon monoxide are intimately admixed with acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene (ABS) resin to form a blend with a flex modulus of at least 1700 MPa. The resulting blend has enhanced impact strength properties over the resin alone. Such blends are useful as molding resins. The process for preparation of the blend involves admixing the terpolymer with the ABS resin.
Abstract: A process in which selected vinyl monomers, such as acrylic esters and acids, and chloroprene are polymerized by contacting them with an aryl diazotate or a metal cyanate in the presence of certain halogenated organic compounds. The process is especially useful for preparing block copolymers.

Abstract: A connector comprising a carrier body with at least two contact elements and a magnetically actuatable switching device. The switching device is arranged to electrically connect or disconnect the two contact elements when the connector mates with or disconnects from another connector. Control means activate the switching device. The control means includes a movably disposed tracer finger. In a preferred embodiment, the switching device includes a reed relay which is activated by a permanent magnet.
Abstract: A composition is disclosed which consists essentially of doped crystalline MTiOXO.sub.4 (wherein M is selected from the group consisting of K, Rb and Tl, X is selected from the group consisting of P and As) which contain at least about 100 ppm total of at least one dopant selected from the group consisting of Ga, Al and Si. The compositions generally have low ionic conductivity, and may be prepared using an improved flux process wherein Ga, Al and/or Si dopant is added to the flux in a total amount of at least about 0.5 mole % and the crystallization temperature is controlled to provide a crystalline composition containing the desired amount of dopant.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for making a compacted, redispersible, aramid pulp fiber product wherein aramid pulp is opened using the forces of a turbulent air grinding mill and then the opened pulp is compacted to the extent desired for shipping.
Abstract: A multilayer laminate having a metallic layer and a dielectric layer, such as a chemically etchable polyimide, bonded to each other with a chemically etchable adhesive containing phenolic ester groups in the backbone.
Abstract: Magnetic field generating apparatus for example for use in a nuclear magnetic resonance system comprises a first set of coils for generating a first magnetic field in a working volume outside the volume defined by the coils. A separate, second coil is provided spaced from the first set of coils for generating a second magnetic field in the working volume. The arrangement is such that the resultant magnetic field in the working volume is substantially homogeneous. An active shield coil may optionally be provided around the first set of coil.

Abstract: This invention relates to a low-temperature process for the preparation of group III-group V semiconducting material. More particularly, in the present process at least one group III compound is reacted with at least one group V compound in an aprotic solvent to form a precursor, which is then heated to form the semiconducting material.
Abstract: The utilization of a positive selection seed screening process to isolate rate variants with resistance to a herbicide is described. The ability to screen large numbers of mutagenized seed has made it feasible to pursue and isolate plants with low frequency dominant herbicide-resistance mutations. The dominant herbicide resistance mutations are useful for many applications including expanding the utility of sulfonylurea herbicides for soybean weed control, production of F.sub.1 and F.sub.2 seeds, and as selectable markers for efficient seed purification.
Abstract: An apparatus that includes speed, temperature, tension, position and pressure sensors on a BCF yarn spinning machine in connection with a digital computer incorporates models in the computer which predict yarn bulk and dyeability properties as a function of sensor inputs: hot roll temperature, bulking jet temperature, ladder guide tension, relative viscosity, draw zone tension, Hall-effect Watt-meter measuring the power consumption of the spinning pump, finish roll speed, takeup roll speed, wind up speed and wind up tension.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a novel process in which novel aldehydes ##STR1## and the trans isomer thereof are hydrolyzed by treatment with an alkali metal carbonate, bicarbonate or hydroxide and water to form the cis enantiomer ##STR2## Also disclosed is a process for preparing [1S-[1.alpha., 2.alpha.(Z), 3.alpha., 4.alpha.]]-7-[3[[[[(1-oxoheptyl)amino]acetyl]-amino ]methyl-7-oxabicyclo-[2.2.1]hept-2-yl]-5-heptenoic acid using the above process.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for moving sheets from substrates without substantially moving the substrate and, specifically, where the sheets are sheets of X-ray film and the substrates are screens found in conventional X-ray cassettes or other sheets in a closely packed stack of sheets. The method and apparatus use at least one suction cup for curling and, thereby, lifting a portion of a sheet near an edge thereof allowing air to partially enter underneath the sheet. The suction cup has a sheet contacting face with a recess extending into the face where the recess is defined by an inner conical surface, a first planar surface and a second planar surface.

Abstract: A copolymer of an unsaturated fluoro compound with a vinyl ether and, optionally, with at least one additional ethylenically unsaturated monomer can be stabilized against gelling by the addition, either to the copolymerization reaction or to the copolymer in solution or in aqueous dispersion, of a 2,2-unsubstituted alicyclic 1,3-diketone in the presence of the enolate ion of said ketone, which enolate may be formed in situ. Solutions and dispersions of such copolymers are very useful in hard, weather-resistant finishes, for example, those used for bridge ironwork and architectural maintenance and in automotive applications.
