Abstract: Composition for polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomer with initiator of perester salt of maleic acid and bisulfite activator in water-in-oil emulsion form.
Abstract: A connector apparatus for making a connection between a signal line and an external circuit is disclosed which comprises a connector body having first and second pairs of terminals, each pair of terminals comprising a pair of contact pins, a first connector element having two terminals each attachable to and detachable from one end of each of the pair of contact pins of the first pair of terminals, the two terminals being connected to the signal line, a second connector element having two terminals each attachable to and detachable from one end of each of the pair of contact pins of the second pair of terminals, and terminating resistor connected between the two terminals in the second connector element, in which the other end of each contact pin of the first and second pairs of terminals is used as an external circuit connector terminal.
Abstract: This invention relates to certain novel pyridine sulfonamide compounds, to composition containing such compounds, and to a method of use of such compositions to control the growth of undesired vegetation.
Abstract: An improved runner for use with a sailrail hydrostatic bearing levitation system is disclosed. The runner uses a substantially solid core having a degree of flexibility in a vertical plane, a thin pad of flexible, compliant material covering at least the transversely convex lower surface of the core, and an outer flexible, compliant cover enclosing the pad and the core. In another embodiment there is pad material on the upper surface of the core as well. The runner can be secured to a pallet and provides specific advantages over prior art runners which had a larger profile, were more expensive and were not as efficient as the low profile runner of this invention.
Abstract: Sulfonamides such as N-[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-aminocarbonyl]-1,3-dihydro-6-methyl-3-oxofuro [3,4-c]pyridine-4-sulfonamide are useful as herbicides and plant growth regulants.
Abstract: Certain ethylene copolymers that contain an ethylene/anhydride graft copolymer and a magnesium hydroxide or aluminum trihydrate flame and smoke retardant have a good balance of strength and flame and smoke retardant properties. The compositions preferably also contain polyethylene, and/or ionomeric ethylene copolymer and/or an ethylene/propylene elastomer.

Abstract: An electronic device for a local area network of electronic apparatuses is characterized by a timer operatively associated with each apparatus, each timer being retriggerably responsive to the occurrence of a periodic feature of a code to assert a line driver for the period of the timer. The period of the timer is greater than the period of the feature.
Abstract: A method is provided for inhibiting onset or treating migraine headaches by administering a thromboxane A.sub.2 receptor antagonist before of during the migraine which thromboxane A.sub.2 receptor antagonist is a 7-oxabicycloheptane prostaglandin analog.
Abstract: Directly spinning highly oriented staple fibers of para-aramids using a dry-jet wet-spinning process in which the filaments in the gap between the spinneret and the coagulating fluid are attenuated with a liquid jetted symmetrically about the filaments at a rate sufficient to break the filaments intermittently to form staple length fibers that taper along their length from an enlarged head.
Abstract: Cold water soluble etherified or esterified starch derivatives having a 20 rpm Brookfield viscosity of less than 15,000 cps when tested in the form of a 10 weight percent starch solids aqueous solution at 25.degree. C. and which forms a transparent film when dried from aqueous solution can be prepared by first preparing a non-crosslinked granular etherified or esterified starch derivative, washing said starch derivative to remove salt by-products therefrom and thereafter solubilizing said starch derivative and thinning same to the desired viscosity level. The resulting starch derivative products are particularly suitable for use in wall covering adhesive formulations and as protective colloids in emulsion polymerization processes.
Abstract: This invention relates to novel N-(heterocyclicaminocarbonyl) indole sulfonamides which are useful as agricultural chemicals and, in particular, as herbicides.
Abstract: An electron beam recording film comprising a support bearing, in order,(A) a sputtered layer of indium-ion oxide, and(B) a gelatino silver halide emulsion layer, e.g., silver iodobromide, crosslinked with 2 to 10% by weight based on the weight of gelatin in the emulsion layer of a Cr.sup.+3 -containing compound, e.g., chrome alum, chromic choloride, etc.Optionally other layers can be present in the film, e.g., crosslinked gelatin overcoat, subbing layer on support, titanium oxide layer on the indium-tin oxide layer.
Abstract: Advantageous modification of non-melt processible, fibrillatible TFE copolymers for past extrusion is possible by including small amounts of perfluoro(n-alkyl vinyl ether) in the shell of the copolymer particle.
Abstract: A method for predicting and monitoring the takeoff performance of an aircraft uses information from one or more previous takeoffs of the aircraft to generate a prediction of the takeoff performance for the current takeoff. In the preferred embodiment, a takeoff profile for the current takeoff is generated and includes information about predetermined characteristics of the aircraft and information about ambient conditions at an airport from which the takeoff is being monitored. Expected performance data for the current takeoff is then generated from the takeoff profile and used to select a set of actual performance data previously stored from the one or more previous takeoffs. A selected "best fit" actual performance data set is then displayed in an appropriate fashion. Upon takeoff, a set of monitored performance data is generated as a function of one or more of sensed takeoff parameters.
Abstract: A self calibrating optical sensor is described in which a time varying response signal is provided which is a function of the reflectivity of a surface being detected and the overall response of the photodetector circuit. This response time is stored to establish a reference value to ascertain similar reflective surface are present.
Abstract: A padlock-type security seal including a U-shaped shackle, a pair of reversely bent end portions, and a transparent body portion having a pair of chambers for receiving the bent end portions. The chambers each have a locking groove therein for receiving the bent end portions. A frangible tab is mounted adjacent one of the locking grooves. Attempts to pick the seal by deforming the shackle will result in breaking the tab. The tab, after breaking, will protrude into the chamber where it can be viewed through the transparent body to indicated tampering.
Abstract: A very small electrode array is disclosed, having numerous, small, sharp, conductive protuberances (needles) which penetrate nerves, organs, muscle or other body part for sensing the electrical activity therein or to provide electrical stimulation. The protuberances are carried on a base and there is included electrical conductors connecting the protuberances to terminals, such as bonding pads, for connection to other electrical circuits. Thus, a method of connecting to living tissue is disclosed. Also, a method of manufacture of an electrode array and associated circuitry is disclosed.

Abstract: A coating of a viscous lubricant applied prior to stretch-breaking permits forming slivers of stretch-broken carbon fibers. When an anti-static ingredient is added to the viscous lubricant cohesive slivers of stretch-broken glass fibers can be formed. Composites of matrix resin reinforced with these slivers exhibit high strength, tensile stiffness, and good formability.
