  • Patent number: 4821279
Abstract: In a gas ion laser of the type having a serial array of coaxially aligned axially spaced floating electrodes contained within an evacuable dielectric envelope for exciting a d.c. plasma laser pumping discharge, the electrodes and gas fill are cooled by a plurality of axially directed coolant tubes within the gas-filled envelope. The electrodes have a spherically shaped funnel portion immediately surrounding the laser beam and plasma discharge path for focusing secondary electrons back into the beam path for increasing conversion efficiency. The spherically shaped surfaces are electroplated with a tungsten-cobalt alloy to decrease sputter erosion.

  • Patent number: 4820450
Abstract: A method and cleaning composition are the subject of the invention. The cleaning composition may take the form of an aqueous solution, a powder, or a concentrated powder or aqueous solution for addition to a cleaning solution. The additive includes an amine or polyacrylamide flocculant and a betaine stabilizer. When used in a detergent solution, the flocculant causes contaminates introduced into the water to precipitate and quickly settle to the bottom of the cleaning bucket. This keeps the upper part of the detergent solution clean and prevents the mop from picking up and subsequently redepositing the contaminates each time it is dipped in the bucket.

  • Patent number: 4819521
Abstract: A reversible ratchet wrench employing spaced plates which hold the sockets and ratchet mechanism in assembly has an offset handle to provide clearance for the hand of the user. The pawl of the ratchet mechanism is in the head portion of the wrench adjacent the socket and the spring-loaded plunger is supported in the handle portion. The pawl and plunger engage at an oblique angle at a juncture zone between the handle portion and the socket head portion, which juncture zone affords clearance for operative movement of the ratchet and plunger during use.

  • Patent number: 4819541
Abstract: The drive is controlled such that reduced pressure is applied during a forward motion phase and venting flow from the drive is used as dynamic control pressure to hold off application of full driving pressure until, through physical impediment, piston movement stops. This way rebounding is prevented and strong holding pressure (e.g. on welding electrodes) is made available after a low power motion phase.

  • Patent number: 4820190
Abstract: An electrical component mounting and connection assembly for direct connection to a connecting wire cable includes a base member having a cavity and wire-receiving slots into which the electrical leads of a sensor, such as a magnetically actuated reed switch, and the wires of the connecting cable are positioned. A cooperating insert member includes insulation displacing contacts and latching structures to physically latch the insert member and base member together to allow the insulation displacing contacts to establish electrical contact with the slot-retained wire conductors. The circuit wires follow a path to an exterior surface of the assembly to allow direct electrical probing of the wire ends to test the circuit components and their connections. In the preferred embodiment, the base member and insert define cooperating `snap` together parts that allow time and cost efficient connection of the sensor device assemblies at the point of installation.

  • Patent number: H621
Abstract: A method of modifying the flavor of distilled spirits is provided. Crystalline fructose (optionally with crystalline dextrose) or aqueous solutions thereof are added to distilled spirits in minor amounts, e.g. less than 5% by weight, to modify the flavor thereof. The method is particularly applicable to distilled spirits containing natural flavor components, i.e. congeners, from distillation or maturation of the spirit. The addition of minor amounts of fructose serves to improve the palatability of the distilled spirit without overtly sweetening or undesirably masking the original flavor.
