  • Patent number: 4783917
Abstract: A bracelet assembly for carrying identification information. The bracelet assembly has an elongated flexible band with fastening means for fastening the band in a closed loop fashion around a patient's limb. There is a transparent portion on the flexible band through which the user can read the identification information. A permanently deformable layer is interposed between the transparent portion and a base layer. The base layer and permanently deformable layer are of contrasting colors. The permanently deformable layer is deformed by lines of force applied by mechanical pressure means such as a typewriter or credit card imprinter which deforms the deformable layer along the lines of force which correspond to the identification information. This renders the base layer visible through both the transparent portion and the permanently deformable layer along the lines of pressure.

  • Patent number: 4784456
Abstract: A fiber optical connector for splicing optical fibers end-to-end in axial alignment. The connector housing comprises a bottom section and three top sections, each hingedly attached to the bottom section. The bottom section has chambers with the V-shaped grooves for inserting and properly orienting the optical fibers end-to-end. The top end sections each contain lands or fingers which, when closed, urge the fibers into the correct position within the V-shaped grooves and lock them there by exerting pressure on the protective jackets surrounding the fibers. The center top section has a land or finger which closes directly onto the end optical fibers, forcing correct and precise alignment and locking them in this orientation. A tension or strain relief may be installed over the connector. The connector permits final inspection of the fiber orientation and application of an index matching fluid prior to closing the center segment.

  • Patent number: 4783346
Abstract: A multistage process for preparing interfacially polymerized polyamide reverse osmosis membranes on a microporous support is disclosed. The process involves applying a solution containing from 1 to 10 wt % of an aromatic diamine having 1 or 2 aromatic rings and 2 to 3 amino groups in a first solvent to the microporous substrate. Then a solution of an aromatic or cyclophatic acyl chloride having 1 or 2 rings and 2.2 to 4 acyl chloride groups in a solvent immiscible with the first solvent is applied to the microporous substrate. Then a solution of different acyl chlorides is applied to the substrate. The acyl chlorides in this second solution can have 2 to 4 acyl chloride groups attached to an aliphatic group of 6 to 12 carbon atoms or an aromatic or cycloaliphatic group having 1 or 2 rings and containing 8 to 14 carbon atoms. Also suitable for the second treatment are bis chloroformates.

  • Patent number: 4783619
Abstract: A power supply back-up device is capable of supplying auxiliary electrical power to a motor vehicle when the vehicle storage battery is disconnected. The computer memory back-up device comprises a plug for inserting into the vehicle cigar lighter, a body with contacts for engaging a nine-volt battery, and wires joining the plug and body. Voltage from the nine-volt battery energizes the motor vehicle circuit when the main battery is disconnected for service, thereby enabling computer controlled accessories to retain their pre-set settings. As a result, reprogramming the accessories after removal and restoration of the normal and electrical power is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4783237
Abstract: Folded cantilever structures and solid state force transducers using same are made by chemical etching of a semiconductive wafer. In the chemical etching process, an etch stop layer is provided on a wafer of semiconductive material. The etch stop layer is opened in a certain pre-determined pattern and etchant is introduced through the opening in the etch stop layer to produce substantial undercut etching of portions of the etch stop layer. The opening is patterned to define a support structure (frame) for the folded cantilever portion which is undercut. The etch is terminated such that one end of the undercut folded cantilever structure is supported from the frame and the other end terminates on a structure such as a mass that is supported from the frame by means of the folded cantilever structure.
