  • Patent number: 4773722
Abstract: Outgoing light signals from a virtual point source are transmitted to a confronting end of an optical fiber via a microlens, whose diameter approximately equals the fiber diameter, axially traversing a center hole of a large-diameter circular photodetector illuminated by incoming light signals from the same fiber end. A focusing lens or objective may be interposed between that fiber end and the photodetector with its microlens to create a field of parallel rays therebetween. The photodetector may be angularly subdivided into a plurality of sectoral portions which are electrically interconnected in series for producing an increased output voltage.

  • Patent number: 4772134
Abstract: The container has an elongated port section formed of a flexible cylindrical wall. A first tube member is lodged within the wall at a location spaced from the end thereof. A second tube member is forceably inserted within the first tube member, engaging a section of the wall therebetween. The engaged wall section may include a double wall thickness. One of the tube members is composed of substantially non-elastic material and the other is composed of relatively elastic material. The elastic member will deform so as to tightly seal the wall section. A detent may be present on one of the tube members to cooperate with a detent receiving recess on the other to enhance the strength of the seal. Any conventional drain valve or tubing can be connected to the protruding end of the second tube member.

  • Patent number: 4771614
Abstract: Insulating fabric having a knitted base fabric incorporating air-entrapping cells on one or both sides. The base fabric is knit from a bulk acrylic yarn, preferably high bulk acrylic yarn, and a combination polyester and cotton yarn, the yarns being knitted separately in selected fabric courses. The inner face of the fabric is formed of the bulk acrylic yarn, to provide a soft, warm and comfortable interior surface when worn. The outer face of the fabric is formed of the polyester/cotton yarn, which provides a knitted framework for anchoring and stabilizing the high bulk yarn in the fabric. Following knitting, the fabric is subjected to a series of finishing operations which include scouring, padding, drying and calendering. Preferably, the inner acrylic surface of the fabric is napped prior to calendering. As the result of repeated washings, the insulating fabric of the invention increases in thickness to enhance its heat insulating capability and provide increased warmth.

  • Patent number: 4772286
Abstract: The invention provides a system for surgically implanting an allograft or prosthetic ligament as a replacement for a patient's cruciate ligaments. In a practice of the system, as a replacement for an anterior cruciate ligament, the patient's leg is bent and maintained at approximately a ninety degree (90.degree.) angle, a single incision is made medial to the tibial tuberosity. From this incision, under fluoroscopic and arthroscopic contol, a guidewire is driven through the tibia and across the cruciate ligament junctions with the proximal tibia and distal femur ends and into the femur cortex.

  • Patent number: 4771499
Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning and spray painting pole structures. The apparatus includes a carriage constructed to be upwardly and downwardly movable along the axis of the pole to be cleaned or painted. Mounted on the carriage is a carousel rotatably secured so as to revolve around the pole as the carriage moves upwardly and downwardly. The carousel may be provided with brushes for cleaning the pole or with a paint sprayer for applying paint. In one embodiment two pairs of rollers are located symmetrically with respect to the sprayer and the poles so that the rollers evenly apply the paint to the pole and simultaneously minimize overspray losses.
