Abstract: Light induced current from a photodiode is converted into a voltage proportional to the integral with respect to time of the current using two serially connected integrating operational amplifiers. In each case the integrating capacitors are connected so that the photodiode is part of the charge current for the capacitors. The amplifiers operate in sequence.

Abstract: A system for extracting soluble substances from fiberous material by lixiviation is followed by various steps of compression and maceration exerting moderate compression on the fiberous material up to 14 Bar. Hereby, special arrangements are made to saturate the fiberous material to maximum absorption between each pressure application. Moisture content of the spent fiberous material is reduced with a special roller assembly with the application of low and high pressure. Heat is used to facilitate the extraction process and to suppress biological alterations of matter involved. With heat exchange between raw material and extracted solvent, overall heat economy is improved. Fiberous material is used as filter aid to reduce contamination of extracted solvent with foreign matter. The system is particularly suitable for the extraction of sugar from sugar cane.
Abstract: Lamination of film to woven fiber is achieved by localized infrared heating to heat directly onto the fibers, which in turn cause the covering film to soften and bond only in the area contacting the fibers.
Abstract: An ostomy device for releasably connecting an ostomy bag to an adhesive backed label including a mounting member for connecting one of two coupling parts to the label. The mounting member comprises an expandable portion for facilitating displacement of the connected coupling part between a normal closed position and an expanded position. The expanded portion comprises a pair of accordion-like folds including an inner fold and a smaller outer fold. The connected coupling part comprises a rib portion having a deflectible sealing strip extending therefrom. The rib portion is connected to the mounting member adjacent the outer folds such that the sealing strip is positioned intermediate the inner and outer folds when the coupling part is in the normal closed position. The inner fold guides discharge from the stoma into the bag and away from the interengaged coupling parts. In an alternate embodiment, the mounting member is affixed to the label.
Abstract: Blends of acrylic copolymer and polyester urethane provide resin suitable for use as enamel coatings which, when cured, exhibit both hardness and flexibility.
Abstract: The machine, which is adapted to be continuously fed with pasta filata, comprises:(a) a horizontal, circular table, having a first radial aperture adapted to be supplied with pasta filata and a second radial aperture for delivery of the product;(b) a shaft protruding vertically from the table center and driven by stepping motor means located beneath the table, and having an integral wheel provided with a peripheral rim;(c) a set of sector-shaped plates adapted to abut against said rim to form a full ring, each sector-shaped plate being slidably supported on the table and being provided with a plurality of radially aligned rows of vertical molding tubes opening at their bottoms through the plate and housing respective slidable pistons, so that each row of molding tubes will straddle a desired aperture of said first or second radial apertures for predetermined angular positions of said wheel;(d) fastening means for clamping said sector-shaped plates to said wheel rim;(e) water spraying means located above the s

Abstract: A process is provided in which carbon dioxide is injected into an oil-containing reservoir as an aid in recovering oil from the reservoir. Oil can be produced from at least one production well in the reservoir and carbon dioxide-containing hydrocarbon gas will be produced with the oil. Heavy ends are stripped from the carbon dioxide-containing hydrocarbon gas and substantially all of the carbon dioxide in reinjected into the oil-containing reservoir.
Abstract: The refractive-index value is obtained by radially scanning a near-field image of the fiber output face and by computing, for each image point, the ratio between a first intensity value, obtained in the presence of a mask, having a transmissivity proportional to the fourth power of the transversal beam coordinate and located in a far-field plane, and a second intensity value, obtained in the absence of such a mask. An automated measurement apparatus for implementing the method is also provided.

Abstract: Anisotropic compounds of the following formula: ##STR1## wherein ##STR2## is selected from the group consisting of ##STR3## Z represents a covalent bond or a carboxyl group --C(O)O--, R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, and C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkoxy and X.sup.2 and X.sup.3 may be the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, and nitrile, with the proviso that at least one of the groups X.sup.2 and X.sup.3 is not hydrogen, are useful as components of liquid crystal mixtures for elektrooptical twist cells.
Abstract: Novel copolyesters derived from (a) aromatic diols, (b) dicarboxylic acids and (c) aromatic hydroxy carboxylic acids, in which t-butylhydroquinone constitutes 55 to 95 mole % of the diol component (a) are disclosed. These copolyesters are anisotropic and fabricable in the melt. They generally can be processed using conventional thermoplastic shaping techniques at temperatures below 350.degree. C. into moldings, fibers and films which have outstanding mechanical properties.
Abstract: A vibrator baseplate for use in a seismic signal transducer system has a bottom plate with a dome centrally located thereon. A pair of partial domes overlap the central dome on opposite sides thereof. Top plates are attached to the partial domes, which are also attached to the bottom plate. Internal rib stiffeners are provided within each dome and gusset members extend between the partial domes and the top plates. Means are provided to connect the baseplate to the seismic signal transducer system. Alternatively, the baseplate comprises a bottom plate with an elongate eccentric dome attached thereto.
Abstract: Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein A is ##STR2## intervene in the conversion of angiotensinogen to angiotensin II by inhibiting renin and thus are useful as anti-hypertensive agents.
