Abstract: The invention relates to a controlled acoustic wave guide configured as an elongated hollow chamber (1) which via an opening (2) in its first face end (3) is connected to a sound-conducting channel (4). The longitudinal resonances of the hollow chamber (1) can be adjusted to a sound spectrum to be dampened. To this end diaphragm vibrations are detected by means of a microphone (10) which is positioned directly in front of the diaphragm (8) of at least one loud-speaker (9) at the second face-end (6) of the hollow chamber (1). The microphone signal is then inverted using an amplifier (11) and fed back to the loud-speaker (9) after amplification in accordance with a sensor (12) signal characterizing the sound spectrum in the channel (4).

Abstract: A fault indicator for indicating the occurrence of a fault in an electrical conductor is reset at a predetermined time after the fault is detected, such as about 4 hours. The fault indicator has a housing, a high capacity battery, a fault sensor, a display for indicating a fault condition, and a programmable controller with a sleep state that draws low quiescent current. As a result the battery is expected to last the lifetime of the fault indicator. The fault indicator may optionally include current inrush restraint and/or voltage inrush restraint to inhibit the controller from activating the display to the fault indicating condition during the inrush conditions. The electromagnetic field about the conductor causes an electrostatic sensor to develop a differential voltage signal between two electrodes of different areas for the voltage inrush restraint circuit. Auxiliary contacts are provided to remotely monitor the fault indicator.

Abstract: A machine tool having at least one or more spindles that can be positioned in space, the spindle being mounted on displaceable slides by rods and the displacement of the slides leading to the spindle being positioned in space. A correction device is provided which defines the actual position of the spindle relating to one or more reference points.
Abstract: This invention provides a method of reducing the concentration of at least one electrically charged compound present in aqueous feedstock (5), such as water and waste water. The feedstock to be treated is continuously supplied to one surface of a selectively permeable, electrically charged membrane (2) contained within a module (1). Simultaneously an aqueous reaction medium, containing an active microbial culture, contacts with the opposite face of the membrane (2). The microbial culture, fed with selected nutrients and salts, is capable to convert at least one electrically charged compound, after it permeates through the wall of the membrane (2) to by-products. The membrane is substantially impermeable to electrically uncharged compounds. The ion-exchange properties of the membrane allow avoiding secondary pollution of the treated water by metabolic by-products and residual nutrients from the reaction medium.

Abstract: An electrical cable having at least one conductor and at least one extruded insulating coating layer. The extruded insulating coating layer includes a polymeric composition having a polyethylene grafted with at least one unsaturated carboxylic acid of general formula (I): in which: R represents H or CH3; n represents 0 or 1. The grafted polyethylene is derived from polyethylene, a radical initiator and at least one unsaturated carboxylic acid of general formula (I) in free form; and the unsaturated carboxylic acid is present in an amount of between 0.0006% and 0.25% by weight. The amount is expressed as the weight content of —COOH groups relative to the total weight of the polymeric composition.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and apparatus for analyzing, sensing and measuring the concentrations of various gases, including NOx, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and oxygen, in a multi-component gas system using chemical sensors and chemical sensor arrays. The sensors and sensor arrays use chemo/electro-active materials to analyze and detect the presence of gases.
Abstract: This invention relates to an isolated nucleic acid fragment encoding a phosphatidylcholine biosynthetic enzyme. The invention also relates to the construction of a chimeric gene encoding all or a portion of the phosphatidylcholine biosynthetic enzyme, in sense or antisense orientation, wherein expression of the chimeric gene results in production of altered levels of the phosphatidylcholine biosynthetic enzyme in a transformed host cell.
