  • Patent number: 4461823
Abstract: A surface having tacky images which comprise toner-receptive and background areas can be color developed by applying to the toner-receptive areas a prolonged tack toner, heating the toned image to a temperature sufficient to make the toner tacky, reducing the temperature of the tackified toned image below the tackifying temperature, the toner remaining tacky, and repeating the toner application, heating and cooling steps at least once. The prolonged tack toned image can be used in single or multiple transfers to an image receptor. The transferred image can also be toned with prolonged tack toner to generate an image of higher optical density.

  • Patent number: 4461470
Abstract: A video controlling and viewing system has a tiltable platform which supports a chair in spaced relation to a console that has a video screen; and a user seated on that chair can manipulate the control element of that console to simultaneously (a) move the views on the video screen up and down and also rotate them in the clockwise or counterclockwise direction and (b) tilt the platform oppositely of the movement of the views on that video screen. The programming means for the console is independent of the driving means for the platform to some extent but the control element of the console will cause the view on the screen to shift in one direction while the platform is tilted in the opposite direction. Cables, drums and motors are used to tilt the platform while views are being displayed on the video screen, and they automatically return the platform to a "home" position at the conclusion of the displaying of those views.

  • Patent number: 4460214
Abstract: A side extension for increasing the volumetric capacity of a vehicle body includes an elongate wall, a first flange extending longitudinally of the wall and bent inwardly of the body from the wall along a bottom edge of the wall and at a sloped incline to the wall, and a second flange bent from the edge of the first flange and extending backward toward the wall. The second flange is fastened to a flange on the vehicle body which extends inwardly of the body. The first and second flanges substantially define a "V" in cross section increasing the strength of the side extension walls, maximizing the capacity of the vehicle body and preventing retention of material carried by the vehicle body at the junction between the side extensions and the vehicle body.

  • Patent number: 4460203
Abstract: A seal of the padlock type comprising a plastic body having a pair of spaced apertures for receiving straight ends of a wire shackle. A metal fastener is assembled in the housing, said fastener having flexible tongues for so engaging the shackle ends that they can be easily pushed into the housing but cannot thereafter be retracted. In one embodiment of the invention the tongues have substantially different lengths, so that they engage the wire at longitudinally spaced positions which increases the holding power of the fastener. Means is provided for retaining the shackle in a closed position prior to use to prevent tangling of the seals with each other during shipment and handling.

  • Patent number: 4460695
Abstract: A method for the separation of theophylline and caffeine contained in body fluids is provided. A macroreticular styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer resin activated by a protic solvent is utilized. • Patent number: 4460867
Abstract: A method and device for the contactless measuring of direct and alternating current, in particular current instantaneous values, by using a magnetic circuit having an air slot and a magnetic field dependent resistor through which a control current flows and a winding through which a measuring current flows. In order to provide a large measuring speed for picking up a rapid instantaneous value, for example, generated high current peaks, at least a further winding is mounted on the magnetic circuit, the voltage drops on the magnetic field dependent resistor are picked up and stored at the peak values or other typical values of the current to be measured. After completing the measuring current, the current in the equivalent current winding is increased and the already stored voltages corresponding to the measuring current are compared consecutively with the voltage drops on magnetic field depending resistor, corresponding to the increase in the amount in the equivalent current winding.

  • Patent number: 4459056
Abstract: A disposable lead pencil, eraser and sharpener combination in which there is an eraser mounted upon one end of the housing and an abrasive sharpener structure contained within an enclosed and sealed chamber at the opposite end of the pencil housing. Sharpening of the lead is effected by reciprocating a pusher plate mounted upon the side of the housing back and forth to move the lead back and forth relative to the abrasive sharpener. At the end of each reciprocal stroke of the lead, an indexing mechanism automatically rotates the lead relative to the abrasive element so that a different section of lead is presented to the sharpener during each stroke. The sharpener containing chamber of the pencil housing is sealed so that all lead filings are retained within the pencil's housing.

  • Patent number: 4459354
Abstract: Acidophilic and acidoduric streptomycetes strains have been found to produce carbohydrases. These Streptomyces effectively elaborate glucose isomerase under acid conditions typically unfavorable for growth of conventional glucose isomerase producing Streptomyces. Sterilization of the culture and production media may be avoided by selectively propagating newly discovered Streptomyces acidodurans under acidic conditions which will effectively eliminate contaminating micro-organisms. The Streptomyces acidodurans herein also have the ability to undergo cultivation and elaborate glucose isomerase over a relatively broad pH range. Constitutive streptomycetes strains have also been isolated. Glucose isomerases derived from these Streptomyces strains are particularly effective for isomerizing glucose syrups to fructose-containing syrups.

  • Patent number: 4458367
Abstract: A knee joint for an artificial limb comprises a knee member having a part spherical convex lower surface pivoted about an axis to a knee housing having a part spherical concave upper surface conforming to the curvature of the knee member. A spring loaded plunger directly connected to a release cable runs on a guideway on the curved surface of the knee housing when the knee is flexed and in the unflexed position latches into a seating to prevent knee flexion. A collet fixing is preferably used to attach the shin tube into a socket depending from the knee housing without the need to drill the tube.
