  • Patent number: 4449821
Abstract: A colorimeter for measuring color of an object, in particular for measuring the color of liquids such as paints in a process stream. In the colorimeter, a single analytical light beam, with its blue and red intensity ratio controlled through a feedback loop, is directed to a sample whose color is being measured. A portion of the analytical light beam is reflected from the sample into a grating monochromator which disperses the light beam into its spectra. A detector array is attached to the monochromator which converts the spectra of the light beam into discrete signals which are then multiplexed with instrument status and reference color signals into an A/D converter. The output of the A/D converter is then fed directly to a computer programmed to directly provide standard color values.

  • Patent number: 4450238
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of the alpha-galactosidase enzyme by culturing yeasts of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae genus in a temperature range from 20.degree. C. to 40.degree. C.The invention also relates to a process for enzymic hydrolysis of raffinose by alpha-galactosidase from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Such hydrolysis may take place with the yeast cells being present or also in the presence of enzymic extracts, both as such and enriched. An important advantage of the invention is the high alpha-galactosidasic activity of the selected microorganisms, together with the absence of any invertasic activity.

  • Patent number: 4449268
Abstract: A caster wherein a brake plate is supported for pivotal movement about an axis intermediate the opposite ends of the brake plate and adjacent the caster yoke and beneath the caster yoke. One end of the brake plate is connected to a toggle mechanism including a wire having one end anchored to the plate and pivots about the caster wheel axis. When the lever is pivoted over center, the wire pulls one end of the brake plate into engagement with the caster wheel thereby braking the caster wheel. The opposite end of the brake plate engages a bearing race fixed to the caster shaft and to thereby brake the caster against rotation.
